This was a nostalgic trip back in time. I did this trek in 1982...over four decades ago. It was much different then - fewer people, perhaps more pristine and a lot more snow and ice! I loved your gentle narrative and wonderful shots. Some of my close friends and fellow adventurers from days past have departed to the great blue and all I have is memories and pictures of our adventures. Today's technology and intrepid travelers of the next generations - like you - allows seniors like me to be there "vicariously." Many thanks, safe travels and fair winds. Peace be with you.

Instead of flying into Lukla, I hiked from Lamasungu, (near Jiri) to Kala Patter. Its about 100 miles. The year was 1981 and there were no Tea Houses; my trekking partner, Sherpa and I stayed with families who lived along the trail. It was winter so the only food available was Dal Bhat (Lentils and Rice). We only ran into 2 or 3 other hikers the whole time. My partner and Sherpa left me when we got to Tengpoche, so I had to finish the trek to Kala Patter alone. I hiked back to Lukla and flew back to Kathmandu. I can't believe the "luxuries" available on the trek these days.

Wow, that must be a great experience to stay with a family. It is a bit more commercialized these days but still an amazing experience!

@@travelwithfawn I didn't really have much interaction with the families we stayed with. We often arrived after dark (unannounced) and fire was the only source of light (and heat). After dinner, the fire soon went out and everyone went to sleep. The homes were made from stacked stone and were very cold seeing how it was winter. The following mornings, we were up early and after breakfast, we hit the trail.

Hello Fawn, spectating from good old godzone NZ. Excellent shots throughout and love the commentary. Hope the high altitude sickness doesn't stay as I find quite often people can still trigger the memory even after a long time. I will taking references from your travel as I am hoping to be able to do similar trek with my wife in 2024. Thanks for taking time and great effort to put up such an interesting travel blog.
