Virgin coconut butter also works, and it smells lovely, but it is more expensive, so as an industrial lubricant, it`s more appropriate in refined variant...

    "The thing you have to understand about Dr. Pepper Is that Dr. Pepper was invented by Charles Alderton who was a chemist.
    That’s essential to understanding what makes Dr. Pepper interesting. It’s the product of a chemist.
    And the chemist wasn’t trying to make a soda that tasted like lemon lime or like citrus. He was trying to make a soda that tasted like the soda fountain at the Waco pharmacy smelled. He wanted it in its essence to be artificial."

      Generally it’s mixed with water and alcohol, but pretty easy to get rid of those. That said, possessing a decent amount of benzaldehyde may get you in trouble if someone complains about your lab (especially if you have other potential meth precursors). Police aren’t exactly known for their knowledge of chemistry beyond “these ones are on the bad list.”

    Excuse me, I have some questions.
    1) How did you avoid Cannizzaro's reaction of cinnamon aldehyde in pH alkaline?
    2) How did you avoid the transformation of aromatic compounds to phenols (yellow, orange colour) in pH alkaline? Also in presence of CO2 a second chain is added.
    3) If you produce acetaldehyde in alkaline solution, how did you eliminate C6H3(CH3)3?
    4) During the boiling the cinnamon powder adsorbs water and it increases its volume 4 times. Also the aromatic compounds are 7-10% in weight. The oil has about the same density of water, depends by temperature. So you can choice the separation method.
    Why did you use bisulfate way? The next step is a Na2CO3 solution anyway.

    • @WielkiKaleson
      @WielkiKaleson 6 дней назад

      Man, forget Cannizzaro. Crazy reaction with H^- ion shift. It requires sth. like 50% NaOH.
      And you seem to think aromatic compounds are reactive as hell (CO_2 addition??, reaction with acetaldehyde?? rapid oxydation??). They are not unless strongly activated by eg. phenol or maybe amine group. He has aldehyde group. Other cup of tea.

    Dr Pepper was my soda of choice since I was a kid. M'lady and I used to drink a lot of soda when we were first together, but we cut it out some years ago and started drinking the sparkling waters instead (i.e. La Croix and its knock-offs) and then our neighbor turned us on to the Sodastream which makes it easy to just make your own soda water at home. After about a year of drinking a bunch of homemade soda I've resigned to just drinking plain water now. Sugar is bad for you in so many ways!

    Sheesh, when was benzaldehyde put on the watch list? Used to be a very common chemical, which after all was oil of bitter almond (cyanide removed).

  • @fmdj
    @fmdj 9 месяцев назад

    2:40 amateur question here, please forgive my ignorance: about the diagram of the cinnamaldehyde molecule: why is there just one hydrogen noted at the end of the carbon chain? Is it because that last carbon is missing 3 of its 4 covalent bonds so one H must be written otherwise convention would mean that 3 H atoms would be attached to that last carbon?

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro 9 месяцев назад

      Yes, that's exactly it. Any vertex or end represents a carbon atom unless specified otherwise.

    Doing a S.A.L.L.E would work fine and not introduce any chemicals except sodium chloride which would only dissolve in the water causing the remaining oil to crash out.
    This is a common practice called salting out

    Should try to make benzaldehyde from toluene. Because Cinnamon bark contains benzaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde, which needs fraction distillation to separate them.

    I'm gonna tell you my story: I was synthesising cynnameldyhyde and i wondered how reagents smell so I smelled benzaldehyde and it smelled actually good but then i smelled acetaldehyde and it was irritating i checked on a label and it turned out to be dangerous, later I discovered that it is what causes hangover after drinking too much percentage drinks, I don't recommend anyone to replicate me.

    It used to taste so much better, but here in the UK we've ruined so many soft drinks due to the nanny states sugar taxes on many drinks, so most changed how they were made. Once again, normal weighted people, who can eat and drink in moderation, as part of a healthy diet, get things made worse to try and stop people getting diabetes and obesity.
