A guitar thumb pick is a device you put over your thumb that acts like a guitar pick but for your thumb. Thumb picks give you a sharp, percussive loud sound from the guitar. Thumb picks are often used in finger style playing or with Travis picking techniques .
A lot of the time, when you're finger picking a melody, the notes your thumb hits are not as prominent and they're a big more difficult to hear among the notes on the higher strings. Using a thumb pick solves this problem.
There is so much to learn with thumb picks, so don't miss this one!

I have been doing fingering. Few days ago I took out my thumb pick that bought years ago and never used. It sounds louder, clearer than using thumb. In addition, I use less force to pluck the bass strings. I love thumb pick now. It does make the difference.

Thanks for the tips - my poor thumb is getting bruised 😢. Found that the 1st thumb pick to be way too long. Glad to know there's a variety out there and I'll find or whittled down one who are more natural feel. Cheers from Seattle! 🍻

Great video! Wonderful, insightful. I use the Thumbpicks from Black Mountain. Have you ever heard of them? I use the thumb pick because one of my guitar heroes, Johnny Winter, always used a thumb pick. Thank you for posting this.

My problem is the picks either slip off my thumb or they are so tight they stop my circulation?
