Got fitted last Friday at clydeway golf centre just outside Glasgow for new irons. Intended to buy ping went through the ping fitting everything went fine The fitter asked me if I was ok for time as he would like to try me in cobra Aerojet grafhite shafted irons I’m 75 years old and the cobras were way better. Longer softer better dispersion more forgiving. Took delivery of them today at 18 00 hours. 75 gramme shafts Hitting the course tomorrow morning. This great game keeps me young
Axiom is definitely the best technology wise but it's a hard pill to swallow at that price when mmt delivers about 98% the results at about half the price.
THANK YOU for mentioning swing weights, as a long time graphite believer and LA L user, the swing weight info is so hard to find and it makes a huge difference to feel. Love this content. Will try Axiom knowing can get to D2 ish now
I have no idea of what iron you are hitting. I see 190 carry and think 7 iron, then see 5600 spin and think 6 iron. This is not the first time you have left this out during iron shaft tests. Nitpicking maybe, but full info would be appreciated. Thanks.
I’m currently playing mmt 125tx and love them! Glad to see I don’t need to run and try axiom! 😂 Irons are better than ever, I just had to add midsize grips to get the swing weight right with the Muira mc501 heads.
I played the i110s in my 2014 Apex Pros. LOVE them, When I got the shafts my driver was 114-116mph. I have a demo 6i with the i125 and like rebar!!! I will stick with i110s!!
I recently have switched to graphite iron shafts. I am glad I waited until now because years ago I do not think I would have liked them and probably would never have given them a second chance. Love my graphite shafts. Love the feel and have actually gained a few yards. I highly recommend giving them a chance.
Ian you need to do this test again with your PXG CB’s and get them all at the same swing weight like you talked about. I’m a 2 handicap with some decent speed in the irons. Got fit for PXG CB’s with LAGP a series low 105 X. Got them in and they had to add so much head weight to the club head that it over stressed the shaft. The shaft was bowing down and causing the club head to come in and scoop the ball and make it go left. I would love to see this test again with your heads at the swing weight that you like. Cheers
We got Victor to drop off an extra Synystr and tipped it to X flex, it feels and preforms just as good as any of the other graphite we have on the wall. I'm playing the MMT 105 TX and loving it currently.
I play steelfiber 95x now. Was fitted originally into DG 105S. By far the best move for me. Lighter gives me more control and reduces fatigue at the end of the round.
I'm in the steel version of that Accra shaft and I love it, tried them both back-to-back at my fitting and just preferred the steel but those TZs were nearly in the bag
ian’s swing was the freest with axiom. you could tell he really clicked with that shaft. i’m in lagp 105 a series low. tested against all these same shafts and it was the clear winner. just goes to show how many variations are possible with graphite vs steel.
I recently have been playing LA Golf A-series 105 stiff in a set of Mizuno Pro 225's (5i-GW) and really liked them. As I can't stop buying clubs, I put a set of Miura CB-302's with Fujikura Axiom 105 Stiff shafts in play, both sets are 1/2" longer than standard (although the Miura's seem 1/4" shorter in the build when I look at them side by side) and have Lamkin gray 360 grips in the Mizuno's and Miura Lamkin UTX (non-cord) grips in the CB-302's. I absolutely love both shafts! The LA Golf shafts feel stiffer and more stable to me, but the Axiom shafts are plenty stable and stiff with possibly softer feel. I have not checked swing weights on either set yet, but need to do that and see what the differences are. My first time playing Miura irons and I'm convinced they are the best feeling irons I've ever hit. Thank you guys for always giving us the best content on the web regarding the golf equipment we all want to see!
Interesting comments from Mikey about Steelfiber and how he typically fits people in a flex less than normal in them. All my woods and my hybrid are stiff flex but my irons (i210s with Steelfiber i80 shafts) are regular.
Just got my 1st set with Steelfiber and went down a flex as well. I noticed that many pro's play them in Stiff instead of X, so I went with regular rather than my usual stiff. After only a month I'm convinced I made the right decision.
I play MMT 95 stiff in my Callaway TCB's and the flight, feel and feedback is awesome. Still play steel in wedges as the control of distance etc was not as good when testing the MMT shafts.
Funny I have Modus 105 in my irons but I've been testing Steelfiber i95 and Recoil 110 in my wedges. Steelfiber are the worst feeling graphite I've tried but most accurate. The Recoil 110 feels SO smooth but it's definitely a little looser.
Velocore definitely isn't snake oil. Ventus has dominated global tours. But is it worth the price at iron speeds & shaft lengths? Doesn't look like it.
@@canyonaro $300 for a driver shaft is snake oil. they even proved it against the OEM non Velecore version. We're not robots. Just bc staff players game it doesnt mean its worth $300 to the non pros. You can buy a "$300" shaft from 10 years ago for $60 bucks today. good enough for tiger back then right?
@@jamesbosuego The Diamana Blue Board is still an excellent shaft. I'm still playing an Aldila NV65 in my 3-wood & that design is 20 years old. There's plenty of good old stuff around but that doesn't mean the new stuff is crap. Also, Tiger plays Ventus Black now. X100 was good enough for his driver in 1996. Doesn't mean it's the best thing out there now.
@@canyonaro i bit drastic to compare the X100 to the Ventus lol. My point still applies. Ill put a blue board over a Ventus blue any day. Keep the $250 in my pocket.
Steelfiber I-95 shafts with the T 2019 T 300 heads are straight butter. I cannot hit a better iron than what I have right now. I would pay good money if you could but I feel like I can do anything that I need to do with this combo.
Another great review. Please don’t forget the mid handicappers. How about a 95gm graphite iron shaft test. I’m sure way more than 70% who view your videos are over 10 handicaps. Thanks.
I’ve went with UST Mamiya recoil prototype 125X in my Callaway Rogue St Pro built straight by Callaway. Even though it’s not a new release, these shafts been out for a while… I’m wandering how they compare to these in the test. Really happy about the results so far!! And curiously it seems they don’t offer it anymore on the rogues. Was a 20$ upgrade by shaft. Great video again guys 👊🏻🏌🏻
Earlier this year in Jan / feb, I went thru a fitting in the willowbrook store and the fitter recommended steel fiber shafts. So I went ahead and had my Taylor made stealth irons 4-pw re-done with steel fiber 95g shafts. It’s now may, and I’ve play 6 rounds and I’m finding that I’ve lost distance on almost every iron club. What can I do because I’m really frustrated. I’m starting to feel like the fitter got it wrong in the recommendation. Looking for a suggestion
I had MMT 105 TX last year, built by a fitter I completely trust and kept having issues with them breaking. The course I play is usually very firm and that may have contributed but I typically only play twice a week now and very little range time. Above avg but not crazy swing speed, game about 115 with the driver. Curious if you have seen those issues with the MMT as well? Went back to nippon, simply because I don’t trust that the graphite to hold up over time. Performance was outstanding.
I put axiom 105x in a set of p770/p7mc I play +1” and they are great mix of performance and feel without making my overall build and swing weight being super heavy. Got d4 on the set with modus120x they were like d9
@youngunz42 Try a strip of lead tape under the grip section if you wanna lower the Swing Weight for your setup.. I have the same shafts with P790s 5-PW and they were D8-9 swing weight until we added the tape.
had a game today, I play Srixon Z785, 105 steel shafts, My buddy had PXG 0311T , don't remember if it was 2,3 or 4 model. anyway, I asked if I could hit his 4 iron, Wow, I was surprised, Don't think the 4 had teh same distance as my 5Iron, but the feel of the swing was super, lighter, easier, and much straighter. were as my normal swing with the steel, is a draw and often more than expected. I took his 8Iron into the green at 138m up the hill, again ,straight as I've always wanted to do, but with out the manipulation. I'm in love with the PXG but the shafts are what makes them good, I believe it was the MMT 80 S.. Would you know if going to those Graphite shaft would make a difference on my 785'?? 20g lighter, would it help me feel the head better??
Have you guys ever tested scuffed/cart path balls? Does the damage really hurt performance? Can a scuffed ball be teed up in a way to actually provide an advantage? Would love to see that.

I have been to several well known chain club fitters but none of them adjust the swing weights like Ian suggested. They let you hit each shaft about 3 times and move on to the next one. They don’t spend time with you to find out the right swing weight..distance and ball speed are the only 2 indicators that they look at. Spent a lot of money with them but I don’t get the best value …
Confuses me. Got fitted in steelfiber 110 gram stiff with mp20mmc. Now 61 years young so according to your info the would be too hefty for me. Play off 7.. should i go lighter?
Weight it almost always more important than flex...if 110 is what you swing best, that's your number. You can always go 110 Regular if you prefer a softer feel
I've only ever played graphite, my first set of clubs was a ex demo set of Ping Zing Copper with Novus CFP 57 red graphite shaft. No real point to this comment beyond me remembering the Copper Zings with the Red shafts, boy they stood out, and people would stop to watch me hit shoots, luckily at the time, near on 30 years ago I was a decent golfer.
Good stuff as always. I am curious about one thing. It probably doesn't matter since carry distance is the important number anyway, but it doesn't seem right for the LA shaft to roll out so much more than the other shafts (7 yds vs 2 to 3 for the others). It has the highest launch, spin and descent angle (descent angle not shown in video but should be highest also due to highest launch and spin).
It looked like the steel fiber had the most toe drop compared to the others. I know Ian used to have this, but the steel fiber was a degree to 2 degrees more than the others.
I was thinking about getting graphite shafts in my irons and trying to be on the cutting edge, but the price is just not worth it since there's not real obvious advantage

did I miss it, or did you not mention what iron you're using (as in 7 or 6 or whatever, not brand) you never really seem to say which loft you're using on a lot of your tests, just a suggestion.
Got out and hit Axiom 125x in my Callaway UT 18. It’s stout but in a good way. I hit 10 balls down a par 4 today and you could throw a blanket over 8 of them. It’s much closer in feel to Fuji pro than Ventus HB. It’s a different flight. Definitely coming out of a higher window than Ventus HB 10TX did. Not going to lie I thought Ventus HB was a little sloppy. I had to build a 1/4 under at 39.25 to get the sw down to d4.5. It was d8 of the rip at 39.5
I just got LA golf 105x A series iron shafts, went on course and had a blast with it. I realize that it is a LOT lighter in swing weight, but given that the grips I use are around 43 grams, all of them come out to be around D2 in swing weight, which works very well for me. Due to the special grips I use (jumbomax ultralite xs), I usually have to add counterbalance weights at the grip end of the club, or else the swing weight is in the high Ds. Now with LAGP, my club is overall lighter and with a reasonable swing weight. Does this sound like it is a good fit for me?
I’ve played LA golf shafts last season and broke a shaft every other month at the head. I am a digger with a steep fast swing but I don’t think graphite durability is on the same level as steel just yet.

Tim Apple?
Love my Steelfiber Shafts but im going to Project X LZ
U wont regret it man
@matm6916 thanks!
did I miss it, or did you not mention what iron you're using (as in 7 or 6 or whatever, not brand) you never really seem to say which loft you're using on a lot of your tests, just a suggestion.
It was d8 of the rip at 39.5
I'm going to donate my left kidney and buy the Axiom shafts in my next iron set. They are the real deal with Velocore.
MMT 125 TX sound at impact …alone draws tour like attention
Graphite shafts also easier on the joints, a huge benefit I think
I just got LA golf 105x A series iron shafts, went on course and had a blast with it. I realize that it is a LOT lighter in swing weight, but given that the grips I use are around 43 grams, all of them come out to be around D2 in swing weight, which works very well for me. Due to the special grips I use (jumbomax ultralite xs), I usually have to add counterbalance weights at the grip end of the club, or else the swing weight is in the high Ds. Now with LAGP, my club is overall lighter and with a reasonable swing weight. Does this sound like it is a good fit for me?
I tried mitsubishi chemical OTI 120x, and they are really stiff.
Be good to see a comparison against your gamer steel shafts.
High use of Steel Fiber on LPGA.
No UST Mamiya love
I’ve played LA golf shafts last season and broke a shaft every other month at the head. I am a digger with a steep fast swing but I don’t think graphite durability is on the same level as steel just yet.
I need a 40 gram shaft. :(
buy a set of each. I did
.5 less tip on tzi for me and holly smash
Yesssssss
Shaftoids won’t let their egos play graphite lol
If you are on the fence about graphite, please try them. I absolutely love them substantially more than steel. ✌️
Which feels closest to Dynamic Gold?
I've played MMTs and SF. Played DG S300 most of my life and IMO SF feel and perform very close to DG for me. Ball flight with my SFs is very similar.
