Completely agree! It kinda annoyed me that Loni was basically sticking up for people doing that...like NO, just cuz it's normal to you doesn't make it right.
I appreciate Tamera for mentioning Lupita! When people in mainstream media talk about natural hair it's usually people who look like Tamera, Alicia Keys & Co. 4c hair etc is like the bottom of the barrel and seen as unkept, unprofessional and a lot of the time undesirable. All types of curly hair should be celebrated! Our hair is beautiful, it's not a weird species to be stared and picked at by white people
Remi really stepped in and let them know. For a minute they were only mentioning WOC with looser curls. They are naturals YES but 4c hair gets the MOST negativity. I love Michelle Obama but she’s relaxed....oh, 1 more thing : We need to throw out the term “good hair” when referring to women with loose texture hair. If you take care of your hair and you love your hair YOU- HAVE-GOOD HAIR....PERIOD!!!
Michelle Obama’s hair is natural and she has said so before. Just because it is blow dried and flat ironed, does not mean it’s not natural i.e. not chemically processed.
I'm telling ya. Remy just read their asses. That soft curl is definitely considered less offensive than a tight kinky curl. And the tighter your curl pattern the more tedious the upkeep is and the more expensive the products are.
“They got the good natural hair” this is why black youth are insecure. How as a black woman could you be so irresponsible and say this? ALL BLACK TEXTURES ARE BEAUTIFUL! 🗣
Yeah, real insulting! I agree with ms.mili879. what Remy Ma said did defeat the purpose! Black hair is beautiful period! We all know that Tamara is half white, so I found what she said very wrong and very insulting to Black people!
It doesn't. It's getting to the root of the conversation. She doesn't think Tamera has "good" hair, she's acknowledging that society treats women with "good" curly hair like biracial Tamera's better than women with "bad" or black, "kinky" hair like hers and Loni's. Pretending that Tamera's hair isn't viewed differently than Loni's or Remy's would be disingenuous, and leaving out most of the conversation.
Adrian just threw the filthiest shade and I LIVED for it. She said what the Black women on the panel couldn't say. That's how you show agency. That's how you show up!
I love that Tamera mentioned Lupita in order to demonstrate the diversity of beautiful natural hair. I love Remy, and I get what she was saying but I wish she didn't say Tamera has the "good" curly hair. That comment made me cringe. All natural hair textures/curl pattern are beautiful and unique!
Crystal Michelle right! I cringed a little every time she spoke. Because (whether she realized it or not) she actually spoke AGAINST the agenda of the topic.
Bad hair is damaged hair. It can be straight hair that's fried and dead or curly and brittle and damaged. Healthy hair is good hair, curly or straight.
I get that there are different textures of hair but for Remi to say that Tamera and the other ladies had "good hair " just shows how much we have not progressed as black women. HEALTHY hair is "good hair" stop belittling yourselves. Yes it's a lot more work but that doesn't make it bad or ugly. I have 4c/4b hair and I love it, why is my hair considered "bad" because it's a different texture?
I think she just wanted to emphasize the fact that 4c hair is very high maintanance and that people are ignorant of the fact that it takes a lot to take care of it. It also stems from the culture of colourism, that the less curled hair was considered more acceptable since it was to a certain extent similar to white curly hair. Approach may be off but totally get it
Dear Remy, "Good hair" is not just curly hair. Good hair is healthy hair, period. Doesn't matter if you have the curliest shiny hair or the kinkiest coils.
I agree with you a 100%. I have natural kinky hair and I KNOW MY HAIR IS GOOD HAIR. It's 2017 people, lets get past this stereotypical crap. God loves all of us.
gigglyfitzgirl i agree 100% good hair is hair taken care of. it can be any length and any texture. but i just love black girls hair when it's really taken care of. its beautiful if i had that kind of hair i would keep it like that every fckin day of the year.
I think she was calling out jeanie on her subconscious bias on textured hair. Jeanie was only bringing up loose curled people. Their hair has been considered "good hair" for decades.
03:36 ignorant. no such thing as "the good" we all have good natural hair whether curly, kinky or coily. Where "good" or "bad" comes in is how we take care of it.
@@penelopecoger4325 Period and not just from a societal standpoint but overall upkeep as well! l have 4B/mostly 4C hair that is bra strap length and the time n effort needed to maintain is unreal!
@@penelopecoger4325 we do hey but I don't want any other type, I think at my age I'm just over what everyone thinks my hair should look like it's 4c just deal with it
Facts ! I have 3b 3c “the good curls” no I spend TIIIIIIME on treating my hair if i dont its A KNOTTED MESS . And as crazy as it sounds i wish my hair was a 4 type sometimes it’s beautiful i love all my curl friends 💗
Part 2 showed the curly hair "preference" all the women besides Lupita have the bouncy curls that you see all over IG, magazines, etc. Well I don't have that (I'm tearing up as I write this because it hurts) I thank Remy and Tamera for telling Jeannie not everyone's curls are like theirs. I have hair like Loni and Remy. Which is unfavored, barely represented. And it hurts soooo much that we don't get the kind of exposure that people with Tamera's curls have you know.
@@memshinlamed9079 l have hair like Lupita and it is down my back, full, thick, and beautiful. You obviously think so too as you took time out to comment. Our hair is gorgeous and l laugh at you bothered types. Get a life!!
Bae Bae! Your hair is beautiful and you are too. I went through this stage at a certain point because l couldnt get the styles l saw on you tube, but after l saw how beautiful my fro was, l was over it!! Curly hair is nothing but a few clip ins away.
Babe, you are beautiful the way you are and your hair is beautiful the way it is. Love your hair first, don't expect others to love it first. Not everyone will love and accept your natural hair, some people will but you owe it to yourself to love and accept it as a part of yourself.
To Loni's remark about why black people don't go touch other people's hair without permission. I'm Zulu and in most Nguni cultures someone's head or hair is considered sacred, legend has it that our hair grows upwards towards God and spiritual enlightenment with the guidance of ancestoral spirits. The higher your afro is, the enlightened & mature you are. It is believed that the process should not be interferred with but respected & revered.
Jeannie killed me when she made that "Tamera, Alicia, Tracee" comment. Thats part of the problem. The only hair type for Black women that is acceptable is the 3b, curly, bi-racial kind. But the second Lupia, Viola or anyone else with the 4c hair walks into the room...they are less "classically beautiful."
I don't like that Remy used the term "good hair" in order to describe looser texture hair. She could have still made her point without it. I also don't like how Jeannie named all biracial women. There are non biracial female celebs who wear their hair naturally. I appreciate Tamera mentioning Lupita.
Sure. There's also Audra MacDonald, Kimberly Elise, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Viola Davis. They all still sometimes straighten and wear weaves, but you can find picks on of them on the red carpet au naturale.
pixigirl999 in Jeannie's defense given that she's of another race she probably doesn't understand all the different textures of hair. For most people it's just ignorance. My boyfriend is Mexican. I'm the only black girl he's ever dated. But after 3 years he can have a legit conversation with you and knows what twa, prepoo and protective styles are.
I agree with Remy Ma, the looser curly hair types are still seen as more acceptable, while the kinkier curls remain at the bottom. But it's all well and good for these natural women to be sitting and chatting about the idea of wearing their natural hair, but in order to normalise it like Adrienne suggested, we need to not just chat about it - but do it! Wear it, rock it, love it ourselves. I think it would have made the discussion even more powerful to see that.
Remy, please stop reinforcing stereotypes surrounding different textures of natural hair by using terms like "good" natural hair. Also, Adrienne is right we have to normalize it. It's the lack of exposure of kinky hair and the over idolisation of curlier textures that causes this discrimination and marginalization of kinkier textures. Loni danced around the topic and Adrienne kept it real.
ThatGirlKhae you're right, but I think her point was to emphasize that biracial hair (hair like Tamera's) doesn't actually depict the struggle of the real African American women.
Ritza Herrera I understand that but don't use the term "good hair" to describe biracial hair when it's juxtaposed against kinky hair because that reinforces that negative stereotype that kinky hair is not good. Maybe her intention was good but her choice of words, not so much.
ThatGirlKhae exactly. As soon as she said that I was like "GTFOH." She started the conversation out on some bullshyt as well. "I think everyone should have wigs..." No. Not the answer. My 4c hair is very "good." People talk like that because they've taken very little time to learn to care for their hair and appreciate it.
I think y'all misunderstood. I have 2 nieces. One has curly hair and the other kinky. My family always tell the one with curly hair that she has "good hair" and that the other one's hair is not bad but it's "not as good." Coming from the Caribbean I hear that A LOT!!! They think curly or nice soft hair is "good hair"
Medjine Seguy I get and most of us do, I'm sure. I'm from the states and have heard that all of my life but have never subscribed to it. It sounds like self-hate and I have always chosen to disbelieve. Remy seemed to attempt to bond with Loni on some "our hair ain't as good" stuff. Sounds like they're referring to 4c hair (or type 4) and it's offensive.
"Curly" hair is so widely accepted now, that it's taking away from the "Natural" hair community because anyone with a slight wave sees monetary value in the phrase so they use the term "natural" and it distorts the meaning for others who are learning about it. Women with 4a and up are still discriminated against, told that we have ugly or bad hair. So until the type 4 women get equal respect and admiration, there's always going to be a problem.
Yeah I know, however, I am seeing a lot of Black women wearing their tight kinky hair out. And once people began to keep on seeing it on a normal basis than it is going to become more normalized.
I'm glad Remy brought up the different TEXTURES of hair and how Tamera's texture of hair is a lot more accepted than Lupita's type. I wish they would have talked about it more, but at least Remy mentioned it.
@@ericatheempress6698 Tamera was the one that mentioned Lupita and then Jeannie repeated, I don't she would have said it if Tamera didn't say anything, she mostly names biracial or light skin women when she's talking about black women, mostly
white people DO say this about black hair, that is what this conversation is about. Adrienne was giving an example of how it'd sound in non white people did the same. see how offended you were? yes, move along.
There is no such thing as "good hair". I'm actually very disappointed in her for saying that. Kinky curly hair is just as "good" as any other type. It may not be the most manageable, but it is still beautiful, attractive, and "good".
kel 097 you're right. But I think Remy was emphasizing on the fact that hair like Tamera (or biracial hair) doesn't accurately represent the struggle the majority of African Americans have to endure...
She did not mean it like that. Like she said, Tamera's hair and the hair of those other mixed girls Jeannie pointed out are less "offensive" than the real curly kinky hair. There is definitely a huge difference, so people say "good" to differentiate the textures.
Jeanie vs Remy. Jeanie probably didn't realize she was listing off biracial women until AFTER the fact. Remy KNEW exactly what she was talking about and STILL re-inforced the "good hair" issue. You could even see it in Loni's face when Remy mentioned her. Loni didn't want to be lumped into that category. Shame.
Sure they do! Just not very many. I'm Asian and I know more about Black hair textures than my black male friend. At the end of the day, because we dont all know the same, it comes down to INTENTION, right? Jeanie highlighted the successful black women she sees everyday on television without even realizing they were all Bi-racial. Indicitive of a bigger problem in Hollywood? sure. But Remy....
I really think that remy was just saying what society would say. Jeanie was listing off bi-racial, loose curled woman. Those are the hair textures that society claims is good hair. Remy was shedding light on the fact that even subconsciously jeanie had a texturist bias.
Galva Tron 1) Not everyone’s religious so saying God to me means like nothing 2) Well it’s a bit late cause my mum got my hair relaxed a few years ago and it’s been relaxed since
Dee Howe ikr. And my parents are white which is nothing bad but they have no idea how to help me or give me any advice so I have to use RUclips a lot lmfao
dance4life1208 I really appreciate that Tamera threw Lupita in there, but it seems that people only think of mixed women when they think of natural hair
dance4life1208 ye cus those women has good hair and not Remy nor loni (this is what Remy said btw)...that statement showed me that she's as ignorant as jeannie
I definitely appreciate this "natural movement" and the black women celebrating their natural hair what ever your hair type may be. No such thing as "good" hair.... just closer to or farther from "European" or "white". Be careful with that statement.
Monilove Jones i think she was trying to state that in the black community ...that's what "good hair" is ....i agree she shoulda mentioned how it's a negative thinggg & should stoppp being used but she didn't ....kinda making her look a lil ignorant
Nah she was letting them know what society considers attractive hair. Our 4C hair is not accepted and when Jeannie was naming off how brave these women with loose curls are to wear their natural hair she had to let her know those are not the women society is offended by when they wear there natural hair.
Can I just say ?!?! If people focused on themselves and not on how somebody else's hair grow out of their head , and just leave it alone ! I understand you think it's fascinating however I'm human NOT a pet !
Im glad Remy brought the topic about MAINTAINING natural hair. Especially kinky hair. Its not just all about the texture or presentation of our hair, but mainatining it, really is hard!
It makes absolutely no sense to me that they're talking about black women rocking their natural hair and embracing it, but then Remy Ma and Lonie turn around and say " Tamera you got that good hair, that good curl"... so.... basically they're saying exactly what the white women in the article were saying.... they were actually discriminating against their own hair and others with hair that's similar. Are y'all trying to empower black women to rock the hair God gave them or still tell them that there are certain types of black hair that's not as good as others??? foolishness! "Good hair, sexy hair" is whatever is growing out of your scalp ladies no matter your race. I've also heard them talking about ladies embracing their natural beauty and praising Alicia Keys for her no makeup movement but then Lonie turns around and says "well some of us need makeup, we look like tree monsters without it".... how exactly is this helping people embrace their natural selves??? y'all are talking out of both sides of your mouth on this show!
I agree with your comment. I wish I WISH a black women who is happy in their own skin and talked proper like Tamara was on there ... Not because of anything but you get these comments and ppl assume all blacks act that way. Tamara is black or biracial it doesn't matter she has curly hair and can be treated poorly because of it ... I hate these dumb statements . They only say that the hair is bad bc these women of color say it about themselves and say their hair is less than. STOP KINKY HAIR IS SO SEXY AND A LOT OF WHITE MEN LOVE IT ON THEIR BLACK WOMEN. BTW - IN MAINSTREAM BLONDE STRAIGHT IS BEAUTIFUL SO WHITE WOMEN CHANGE THEIR HAIR TOO. LETS BE HONEST SOMETIMES PPL LIKE TO LOOK DOWN ON OTHERS
Yeah they clearly don't know what side to pick. Let's also not forget that they're up there wearing weaves, wigs, and makeup. Such a contradicting hypocritical conversation.
@@courtneybridge1427 They should have worn natural looking weaves and wigs with super curly hair. Makeup is ok though to highlight beauty but don't backtrack and down talk your own hair. That is inflicting bad talk on yourself which isn't necessary. Black hair can do anything defy gravity, be proud
Remy oh no you didn't just say Tamera has that 'good hair'! Smh, you gotta take an L for that. And Michelle Obama's hair isn't completely natural. She doesn't wear her natural texture. Healthy hair is good hair.
ms dimples You missed her point. Looser curls are for the most part in the world considered to be more favorable/"good hair ". In realty it my not be better than a person with tighter curls( because its unhealthy), but many will still view it as more acceptable. The struggles of women with kinky hair go ignored. She was implying that the type 4 hair is generally looked at as not good; which to alot of people in western society is true. As a 4a/4b girl myself, I love our hair.
I’m a white young girl with blonde natural hair and all I wanted when I was younger was the bouncy curly hair I seen black girls have. It is stunning ❤️
However, there is still bias between curly and nappy. I am 100% black from Africa my hair is 4c I get to see memes that say "curls is natural coils are nappy" or even "hair so nappy Moses can't part it" I feel like curls are embraced as "good hair" than the natural 4-type I love all hair and I think we all slay
True very true, I know I have 4d type of hair, am from Africa too (Kenya 🇰🇪) and I have two blood sisters and we don't have the same type of hair even... There are so many types of black hair even among the African community... It's hard for me to say black cause some mixed people are still called black. Anyway love and peace ✌️
Im from Somalia and have 3b hair, whilst my older sister has 1c hair and some cousins hace 4c hair, literally all comes in different textures. Needs to all be embraces frfr@@katithimusyimi7032
Listen, stop hating on Adrienne. She's just trying to empathise. But Remy, woah. That's offensive. Camera has good hair because she takes care of it, not because of it's curl pattern. Don't group Loni in with you not liking your own, you explained it well except that part. Listen, good hair is HEALTHY hair. 4C hair can look BOMB. Have you not seen that daddy and daughter duo who grew out their hair and took CARE of it. No such thing, ssh. But you're right it's hard to maintain especially in the entertainment industry so keep your wigs, everyone wears them now it's easy to change up your hair if you don't want to damage your own.
Chenoa H. I think she was just saying what the media or public view as good hair, just how Jeannie only named mixed women, because that's seen as more acceptable, so I didnt think she meant it that way
TBF I don't think she meant it maliciously either, because her following points were great, she just should think before she speaks. Because Loni's face said it all. I also think Jeannie mention 'mixed women' because off the top of her head they're the only women who wear there hair out A LOT. I've never seen tracee in a wig/extensions. Also your name is spelt really nice :)
Chenoa H. I think she was pointing out...yet again, another example of biracial women and their hair textures speaking for black women. Which is a problem in itself.
Camera mentioned Lupita. I don't find that to be a problem... biracial women are black women too. But I get that I guess the people who took this survey were probably around people with looser textures of hair. :)
I am so lucky to have been raised by a mother who wore her hair in an afro. She set the standard of beauty for me and that standard consisted of kinky, coily, and curly hair. I work in corporate America and I wear my afro proudly everyday.
Adrienne and Remi are speaking facts today!!! I can't help but feel so happy that they are. Thank you ladies cause Jeanie just blew me, she bipassed violas and Scottie beam types. Our hair textures are vast she literally chose 3 people with SIMILAR not even the same textures.
This was a great opportunity for Adrienne to bring up the stigma within the Spanish culture. Straight, soft hair is encouraged in practically allll Hispanic cultures. Curls (no matter what texture) is considered "bad hair" aka pelo malo. Personal experience: My hispanic fiance adores my curls, and begged me to wear them. I swear I've had this hair on my head for 26 years and had no clue how to manage it. Thank God for RUclips channels like curly penny and sunkissalba; these girls encouraged me, helped me get all my heat damaged off, and taught me what to purchase and how to style it. . . .and of course they are also Hispanic, so they understand the stereo types. crazy, but I can now walk into a room, especially a elegant party and feel comfortable in my own hair. 🤗😊
Amen. Being in the cosmetology field and being Jamaican-American (which means I grew up with lots of blacks and Hispanics) has taught me a lot about hair standards in all races/cultures. You're right about this. It's one of the biggest things that Afro-Latinos get discriminated for, South Americans get praised for, and contributes to the mass popularity of the Dominican blowout. They are known to get the kinkiest of hair silky straight, with damage though but people still get it.
LadyChaos101 it would be taking attention from the topic of the study, which is black women. However, I feel like we can lump some Afro-Latinas in this discussion, the ones who "look black" and have kinky hair like us. They often get treated as black in society and I feel they fall under this issue as well.
+Naturalista Nas Afro-latino basically means Black Latino so Afro-latina women are just as black as any other black women. Afro-latino is NOT biracial as some people incorrectly think.
Jean-Pierre LeBlanc I agree. afro - latina would fall under the black category. culturally they are Latin but race wise black, so why not include them. I feel like many ppl, and namely americans, have a very limited understanding of what "black" means. they are many sub categories to it
"Good hair" has no type. I'm so tired of hearing that and it's sad that some Black girls are always saying "I wish I had good hair" or they see someone mixed and says "she has good hair". Who said you didn't have good hair? And to those who make fun of us you're right we don't have good hair we have GREAT hair that most people don't understand because they've been fed stereotypes that's been associated with Black hair. Then we can't even straighten it or change up our style because we're either told that we're trying to look "non-black" or that we should wear it straight more because it looks better" I've been told that and it only makes me want to grow my curls and we're them often. F*ck your stereotypes I love our hair. Don't mistake our like for variety and change as low self esteem. 💁🏽✊🏽💁🏾✊🏾💁🏿✊🏿
i dont get how white women can say its not "sexy". i honestly think they only surveyed older white women because i remember my first year natural i went to a bar with my friends and all the girls in the bar had long straight hair and i felt so ugly because i was the only black girl with my puff. but the second i got into the bar some white dude screamed I LOVE YOUR HAIR and the compliments on my hair would not stop. everytime i go to a bar i get hit on by guys of all different colors and the first thing they compliment is my hair. which is something that never happened when i had a perm or wore weave.
TheBlackSwordsWoman Same here. I had more white men hit on me and compliment my hair it was crazy. lol, also, different breeds of black men (if you get what I'm saying) began trying to talk to me. It literally opened up a whole new world
I wasn't sure at first about going natural, but the day that I saw my hair growing natural and healthy from my own scalp was the happiest day of my life. What makes me even happier seen my teen sister embracing her fro. 😊✊
I have relaxed hair and I am currently transitioning to natural hair (I am 4 months post relaxer). My hair has been really damaged over the years for using chemical relaxers and I decided to go back natural because I want my nice thick and big natural hair back. I don't care what people have to say something negative about natural hair. If you don't like my natural hair, that is your problem and not mine!
Congrats. I had a similar experience. I relaxed my hair for decades. My hair appeared long, thick, and healthy most of the time. After so much processing it just wasn't as thick as it used to be. I went natural and now it is longer and thicker than ever, I get compliments from everyone. It wasn't easy at first, people were used to me wearing my hair long, and bone straight. The big chop wasn't welcomed by anyone but me. I didn't care and persisted, now they all love it.
They should not have talked about this. It fell flat because they are doing what a lot of Black women are still fighting against and thats promoting "good" natural hair. Even the way Remy ma said "Good curly hair" opposed to her and Lonis, who probably have type 4 curls. The only positive thing was Adrians point, Loni should speak up more on the topic. And they should have educated the panel on hair discrimination in the natural hair community.
Thank you sooo much for mentioning Lupita! All the women with showed have NOT 4C hair. Yes, they are curly, but many dark skin women do not have silky curly hair. Represent! lol im done now.
I've been natural, with no heat at all for almost a year. Next month is a year. And, I'm proud, boo. This is something I love, and I continue to wear my hair proudly, because (in my opinion) my hair is part of me. And, ignoring my hair, is ignoring myself. And forgetting about what I personally have fought for. And I'm not planning to accept ignorance with open arms.
The study is really interesting and great to hear these ladies talk about natural hair, it would've been nice to have seen them wearing their natural hair for the segment though.
Amen Remy ! I literally rolled my eyes when I watched this live at Tamera saying there trying to do it with curly pages. You rarely see people with 4C hair praised on natural hair pages. Mainstream natural hair is represented by lose hair patterns and that's where we really need to work on, because I'm pretty sure if you have super curly hair it's appropriate, bt it you have an Afro it's not work appropriate 😒
Reno ma was getting on my nerves. Saying they have the “good curly hair” is part of the problem telling us that we should have 50 wigs to appease different people is part of the problem and it promotes self hatred and this is very toxic thinking
What also should have been added to the discussion is the fact the courts ruled in favor of allowing companies to discriminate against us based on our hair. Black women being able to wear our natural hair is a long deep rooted issue. That's why I hate when people attack black women for wearing weaves. And to Remy Ma point, maintaining natural hair and the products are expensive.
Curls are curls 3b 3c 4a 4b 4c. CURLS ARE BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. So now my curly hair is a distraction??? I'm sorry but what? Look the other way then fym? I ain't straightening my hair. what for?
I wish my hair was as curly as Tamera's! I love curly hair like that! I have thick wavy/curly hair and I love it but am so jealous of those curls! But no, Adrienne I can't wash my hair every day because if I do it will get dry and frizzy but I don't let it get to the point where it is greasy and nasty either. And yes, I am one of those girls that will touch other women's curly hair but only if I know them well! It's just rude to go up to someone you don't know and touch their hair! All of these ladies have beautiful hair and I'm so happy they had a discussion about this!
I love that Tamer brought up the curly bloggers because they are such a big part of me loving my fro instead of always hiding it and learning how to better take care of it when I don't live around many other mixed people in UT. Lol I cracked up when Adrianne was so mad yet confused about people touching our hair.
What's good curly hair? Good curly hair is healthy hair! The curly/natural hair movement is definitely in affect! I learned to love my hair right here from good old youtube. So that's why I created my own channel to venture out and make a positive channel for everyone out there to learn from so we can break the barriers and educate ourselves about true beauty. So I appreciate The Real for this segment. My only concern is towards Remi Ma's comment, I bet she has a nice head of hair under her wig. You just have to take care of your hair that's all.
thank you remy, she told the truth! It is nice that there is the curly hair movement, but even that is not that inclusive. Remy is right, there is a specific kind of "good curly hair" these days and it is sad that ALL hair is not celebrated.
Didn't appreciate remy's comment on saying how tamera had "good" hair because she had looser curls.... speak for your self my hair maybe coiled and has tighter curls but i consider my hair good hair no matter how long it may take me to do in the morning and how many combs it breaks... good hair is not a certain type of curl type, good hair is hair that is healthy!!!
I'm white and have straight hair. I only wash it once a week at most. Why? Because it actually gets greasy the more I wash it. People who wash their hair every day aren't realizing that they are making it worse. The more you wash, the more oil your scalp produce. Simple as that.
I have always thought curly hair is more beautiful than stick straight hair. My hair is naturally wavy and super thick. Not every "white" person has super thin hair. I love the curly hair movement because no one should feel judge because of their hair.
I'm loving the curly hair movement as well. It's showcasing the different variety of hair textures and beauty in it. Was discussing this earlier that many curly haired white women straighten their hair. I believe that those who do straighten their hair believe that's what will make them more attractive. Sometimes I watch Millionaire Matchmaker and Patti Stanger has said on many occasions that she makes the females straighten their hair because the men say they like straight hair to run their finger through it, wow LOL. I have a girlfriend who is white and when we worked together our boss would 'gently' try to convince her to straighten her hair. She straightened it once but later she told me it was too much to uphold and she liked her curly hair.
Yes I always wondered why Patti Stanger said that! I know more men that like curly hair then straight hair. Still, regardless of what men think.. People shouldn't change themselves to please others. It should be 'forbidden' to ask people to change their hair. As long as its clean, its good.
Haley Kat no one should be judged for something they were born with period. including ppl with straight hair and im a black woman saying that. and ppl with straight hair. shouldn't put down anyone with coarse, curly hair. ppl in this world are trying too hard. life wasnt meant to be that complicated.
Rose Belizaire Hair is hair. I agree no one should be brought down by their hair type. I style my hair depending on how I feel like styling it that day. Every person should have their own say when it comes to choosing how to style their hair. I know for myself straightening my hair is a chore. By the end of it I am hungry, my arms are sore, and I am sweating because it is so hot in the bathroom. Which is why I chose not to straighten it. Bottom line unless it is on your own head you have no say how to style it.
Exactly, and not all black people have the same hair texture either. I have met a white person with basically the same hair type as me...we ran in to each other at an ice cream shop and we just stared at each other for like 2 sec...lol it was so funny! I am an African-American woman with curly hair, not black hair. I don't believe that texture is a color.
Thank you Tamera for mentioning Lupita!!! Geesh Louise mainstream media always manages to create a divide in the community. They only seem to celebrate textures such as yours and the others mentioned by Jeannie. When they advertise curly haired products they only seem to use women with 3B or 4A(ie Tamera and Traci Ellis Ross texture) its so frustrating. I've stopped following blogs with textures like theirs because when I try the suggest stuff my hair didnt look like their and I became frustrated..now only look at blogs with my texture which is 4B...Good topic none the less.
I'm natural and it doesn't bother me when white people wanna touch my hair. They usually just say something like, "it's so soft". The only reason I wouldn't want it touched is cuz people tend to want to comb your curls with their fingers. I love my hair though and take it as a compliment. Maybe cuz I have no negative experiences... thus far
Breaking Alabaster wow, that's great.. I'm a germ a phobe and I get pissed when they even attempt to touch my hair. People do disgusting things with their hands. 😞
Funny, I don't get white people who want to touch my hair. It's black women who touch it and often times they don't ask. I've had to damn near snatch someone up because I believe that a black woman should know better.
People touch my hair all the time and I'm white. Because I have fuller and alot curlier hair than most around me. So they think it's beautiful and wants to touch it because they are fascinated by the texture and jealous. It's a compliment...If you had dirty greasy hair or a tangled mess Noon would want tofeel your hair..so take it forr what it is..a compliment. If a white person with straight hair or blonde hair goes to some parts of africa or some parts of Asia..people touch their hair ALL the time. I went to thailand with 2 guyfriends who are blonde and curly and I swear they had 10-20 people every day commenting on their hair or feeling their hair, some even wanted pictures taken. However it's kind of rude not to ask first.
As a biracial girl, my black mother taught me that "good hair" is CLEAN HEALTHY hair. Good hair comes in all textures.
Robin Lofton and your mama taught you right! That is what "good hair" is 😘
Robin Lofton come on somebody 👏👏👏👏👏👏
THANK YOU!

Shout out to Adrienne for calling out the crap that is asking to touch someone's hair and discrimination surrounding Black women's natural hair.
ThatGirlKhae Amen!!!
Completely agree! It kinda annoyed me that Loni was basically sticking up for people doing that...like NO, just cuz it's normal to you doesn't make it right.
ThatGirlKhae yes! But it's like they didn't even acknowledge that she said it as much🙃
Yes! Loni been getting on my damn nerves lately. There is nothing "normal" or "okay" with people asking to touch your hair!
Darian Smith Right! She been acting very mediocre these days
Our hair is beautiful, it's not a weird species to be stared and picked at by white people
Sincerely Tops Yes girl, yes!
agree!
Sincerely Tops too bad they didn't stand up for their black sista after she was fired for being the stereotypical black woman.
Sincerely Tops appreciate your comment.. I was gonna say it but u already did. Thank you.
It's an unwritten rule in corporate America that afros are unacceptable and need to be tamed.
I have 4d hair myself..
Michelle Obama’s hair is natural and she has said so before. Just because it is blow dried and flat ironed, does not mean it’s not natural i.e. not chemically processed.
Thank you
@@katithimusyimi7032 I have 4g hair. I cut it off because it was too much work
Thank you 😏
I'm telling ya. Remy just read their asses. That soft curl is definitely considered less offensive than a tight kinky curl. And the tighter your curl pattern the more tedious the upkeep is and the more expensive the products are.
Yas Loni! "You're never going to figure us out just accept us." BOOM. Just like we accept everyone else we deserve to be accepted.

My fav part!!!
Damn Adrienne😂😂😂 I died when you said "They got like 3 strands of hair!!" Tell me how you really feel....
Salma M she's going to act like she doesn't have white people hair...
+Ritza very true 😁. I've seen it all. Aside from wavy and curly hair I've also seen different variations of straight hair
she doesn't . her natural hair texture is curly but she's straightens it.
Yelly Yellez 😂😂she was not holding back
😂😂😂
“They got the good natural hair” this is why black youth are insecure. How as a black woman could you be so irresponsible and say this? ALL BLACK TEXTURES ARE BEAUTIFUL! 🗣
So true! I felt some type of way when she said that.
The term good hair ruined the natural black culture for sure.
JESUS SAVES she meant the less offensive to white people. You’re taking it out of context
she just hates her own hair texture
Thank you this is so true
i like how remy brought up the texture thing. because when people think natural hair they think the stereotypical biracial girl hair
like the jennie did...
Remy Ma saying Tamera got the good curly hair defeats the purpose of this conversation.
ms.mili879 no it makes it a more REAL conversation
She isn’t there yet...
She's right
Adrian just threw the filthiest shade and I LIVED for it. She said what the Black women on the panel couldn't say. That's how you show agency. That's how you show up!

4a, 4b, 4c.
4c is like thick, kinky curl. almost afro like. I have that
I love that Tamera mentioned Lupita in order to demonstrate the diversity of beautiful natural hair.
She said “good curly hair” as in the curly hair that is acceptable to society.
Crystal Michelle yes I didn't like that she said it either.
Yessss I cringed! Like why would she say that? There are all kinds of different curls I don’t think one is better than the other but clearly she does
Agreed.. because my hair is thick and like Lonnie and Remy.. it's a totally different struggle from the ones who just brush and go
I hate when people say someone has “GOOD HAIR” No, there is healthy hair and unhealthy hair. Everything God made is good!
When someone says I have good hair, I ask them , "what's bad hair?" I hate that expression.
"Good hair" I think she means, more accepted or popularised or mainstream.
No bad hair is unmanageable hair like 4c
Bad hair is damaged hair. It can be straight hair that's fried and dead or curly and brittle and damaged. Healthy hair is good hair, curly or straight.
@@9melissal exactly!
Approach may be off but totally get it
I don't think it's really that hard to maintain. At least not for me
Well it's the old black women over 30s that act like this 😂
Lmao thank you REMY! I was rolling my eyes when Jeannie named all of those mixed girls (no offense). I was like where are all of the 4c chicks at
TheStarLaura then Tamera got her right :)
Can u explain what 4c is?
SupernaturalLove100 it's a tighter curl pattern.
4c is very kinky and coily hair as what the ignorant people call "Nappy" hair.
What do you expect , her man looks like casper.
Dear Remy,
"Good hair" is not just curly hair.
Natural hair that is dreadlocked, and I lOVE IT.
gigglyfitzgirl I'm from a black country.... and to be honest.... good hair is thick hair....if your hair is thin .....its not that good
gigglyfitzgirl i agree 100% good hair is hair taken care of. it can be any length and any texture. but i just love black girls hair when it's really taken care of. its beautiful if i had that kind of hair i would keep it like that every fckin day of the year.
I think she was calling out jeanie on her subconscious bias on textured hair. Jeanie was only bringing up loose curled people. Their hair has been considered "good hair" for decades.
Hahahaha "how rude would it be if I said" then she goes on to say it hahaha Adrienne wasn't playing hahaha
Omg Adrienne is so mad and I love it! Yes A thank you for telling the truth and unapologetically calling out the hypocrisy!
03:36 ignorant.
no such thing as "the good" we all have good natural hair whether curly, kinky or coily. Where "good" or "bad" comes in is how we take care of it.
Thrre is such thing as good hair good hair is manageable and bad hair is not manageable like bad hair 4c
She's uneducated and ignorant. I take nothing she says seriously.
I feel like women with curly hair DO NOT have such a hard time, compared to the like typ 4b/c ladies

You are not alone. Own that look and make a statement. :)

Mbaliville I love how you explained this culturally speaking. Our hair definitely does grow upward and I feel very enlightened 🙌
Interesting, I love this! 😍
That sounds so beautiful
Mbali Amazing!
You know what they say the higher the hair the closer to god
Jeannie killed me when she made that "Tamera, Alicia, Tracee" comment. Thats part of the problem. The only hair type for Black women that is acceptable is the 3b, curly, bi-racial kind. But the second Lupia, Viola or anyone else with the 4c hair walks into the room...they are less "classically beautiful."
True! Viola Davis out here slaying with her 4C
TheRebeccaMills1 Remy is part of the problem as well
***** exactly
Exactly comments like Jeannie is why the natural hair community is regressive more so than than the relaxed hair.
Leia Richardson i really think she was calling jeanie out on her subconscious bias about hair texture.
I don't like that Remy used the term "good hair" in order to describe looser texture hair. She could have still made her point without it. I also don't like how Jeannie named all biracial women. There are non biracial female celebs who wear their hair naturally. I appreciate Tamera mentioning Lupita.
can u mention any others besides lupita so I could know ?
Solange, Janelle Monae, Teyonah Parris, Yaya Dacosta, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danai Gurira, etc. there are others but that's just off the top of my head
Viola Davis.
It was a bad idea for every panelist to be wearing wigs and extensions for this segment...
I Agree
I think they don't what what was gonna be discussed. The questions are just thrown at them.

Ritza Herrera Ahhh, I understand now. Thank you for clarifying. :)
I agree with you..so brainwashed that during regular convo the negative words fly out their mouth..it's simply thicker hair compared to the others.
Yeah, hair never committed crimes. So how can it be bad? LOL
Shame.
Yeah I don't think people outside of the black community know the diff between textures
I love how jeannie gets so passionate about topics that doesn't even affect her💜

I definitely appreciate this "natural movement" and the black women celebrating their natural hair what ever your hair type may be. No such thing as "good" hair.... just closer to or farther from "European" or "white". Be careful with that statement.
Remmy's comment about the texture of natural hair being better was a sign of ignorance and self hate.

Chenoa H. Her wording was off but she was talking about how hair like Tamera's is less offensive to people and how looser textures don't bother them.
I work in corporate America and I wear my afro proudly everyday.
lady _e11 it's great to hear this! Did you wear an afro to the interview?
usadrones yes, I did wear my afro when I interviewed.
"How rude would I sound saying that?" Baby, you did say it. But that's okay. You're right.
This was a great opportunity for Adrienne to bring up the stigma within the Spanish culture. Straight, soft hair is encouraged in practically allll Hispanic cultures. Curls (no matter what texture) is considered "bad hair" aka pelo malo.
Personal experience:
My hispanic fiance adores my curls, and begged me to wear them.
Samantha Santiago I would've been annoyed she's bringing that up in a discussion about Afro hair
LadyChaos101 it would be taking attention from the topic of the study, which is black women. However, I feel like we can lump some Afro-Latinas in this discussion, the ones who "look black" and have kinky hair like us. They often get treated as black in society and I feel they fall under this issue as well.
+Naturalista Nas
Afro-latino basically means Black Latino so Afro-latina women are just as black as any other black women.
And if a girl with natural hair does have low self esteem it's because people are telling her that her type of hair isn't beautiful when it is.
Good hair is Healthy hair
i dont get how white women can say its not "sexy". i honestly think they only surveyed older white women because i remember my first year natural i went to a bar with my friends and all the girls in the bar had long straight hair and i felt so ugly because i was the only black girl with my puff. but the second i got into the bar some white dude screamed I LOVE YOUR HAIR and the compliments on my hair would not stop. everytime i go to a bar i get hit on by guys of all different colors and the first thing they compliment is my hair. which is something that never happened when i had a perm or wore weave.
TheBlackSwordsWoman yesssss!! i always get compliments for my natural hair from men. So true.
TheBlackSwordsWoman Same here. I had more white men hit on me and compliment my hair it was crazy. lol, also, different breeds of black men (if you get what I'm saying) began trying to talk to me. It literally opened up a whole new world
Same, I get a lot of compliments and most are from white men and women. It doesn't matter where I am, they love it.
Two words: Adrianne Bailon 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 (hope I spelled it right)
Adrienne lowkey snapped and I lived for it😂
I wasn't sure at first about going natural, but the day that I saw my hair growing natural and healthy from my own scalp was the happiest day of my life. What makes me even happier seen my teen sister embracing her fro. 😊✊
thats beautiful 😍
Remy Ma spoke my life lol washing my type of natural hair takes a while and it's so much you have to put into it!
I did too. March of last year is when I started my curly hair journey. It's hard but the results are worth it.
MsBrooklyn11232 congratulations on your natural hair journey ❤️❤️❤️
Kyra Y and congrats to you too honey.❤️welcome to the club
Don't give up. The transitioning period is the hardest. Good luck
I like that Remy Ma brought up the different type of textures that are celebrated and some aren't
Laura Lora talkn bout BLACK issues & stay putting in biracial/mixed women with curly hair & lightskin ...GOT ME FUCKED UP!
you find someone's hair (that is growing from THEIR head) undesirable? what's so wrong with your life...
ESTHER MODISE Girl The ignorance is too deep! Not enough time 🤦🏾♀️!
Vitani Hatshepsut Jahzara my feelings exactly.
The study is really interesting and great to hear these ladies talk about natural hair, it would've been nice to have seen them wearing their natural hair for the segment though.
Adrienne is such an intelligent soul. I love her.
Curly Wishes Caviar Dreams yeah most of women who are kicked of schools/jobs have type 4 hair
Watching this after I just finished washing my hair, moisturizing it, and parting into sections👌🏾
Lyrics Amme yeaassss girl!
They should just let Remy join the panel. Remy needs to ditch LHH and come to The Real. That would be lit. I'm praying that Remy joins The Real 😩😩💯💯
I am so so so soooo happy you guys talked about this. So happy... I am of mixed race with 3c 3b hair. Thank you.
Reno ma was getting on my nerves. Saying they have the “good curly hair” is part of the problem telling us that we should have 50 wigs to appease different people is part of the problem and it promotes self hatred and this is very toxic thinking
I love hair talk!!
MeltingSunRays me toooo! 💁🏾
What also should have been added to the discussion is the fact the courts ruled in favor of allowing companies to discriminate against us based on our hair. Black women being able to wear our natural hair is a long deep rooted issue. That's why I hate when people attack black women for wearing weaves. And to Remy Ma point, maintaining natural hair and the products are expensive.
nia knox that ruling literally broke my heart when I heard it. I was ranting to my friend about how hurtful this is. smh I'm still shocked!
Curls are curls 3b 3c 4a 4b 4c. CURLS ARE BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. So now my curly hair is a distraction??? I'm sorry but what? Look the other way then fym? I ain't straightening my hair. what for?
There are also COILS and KINKS..All naturals are not curly girls (or boys)
Headchampion True but most of the time it is still a curl, they're just very very tight.
+Phipi Todebone that's like saying wavy hair is curly hair...its just wavy hair is very very very loose. lol
sophiademure lmao Wavy hair isn't curly. But I'll rephrase that. Straight, Curly, Kinky, Wavy. all beautiful.
Phiphi Todebone girl you forgot about my 3A hair in that comment 😒. Lol jk! 😘
This is history! Seeing this being talked about by black women and for black women on TV fills my heart ❤
"You're never gonna figure us out..just accept it!" DASSIT!!!! Exactly Loni! 🎯🙌🏾🙌🏾😤😤🙄🙄🙄
Remy looks so beautiful
alexia gordon the euro wig looks ridiculous
alexia gordon Nah! Wig looks too big and too much hair? Come on who’s she kidding? STOP ✋🏾with the nonsense Good Hair BS 🙄!
Greasy 3 strands of hair...Bahahahaha
Lara why she had go say that loool she's too much
Racist bitch
I'm white and have straight hair. I only wash it once a week at most. Why? Because it actually gets greasy the more I wash it. People who wash their hair every day aren't realizing that they are making it worse. The more you wash, the more oil your scalp produce. Simple as that.
TAMERA IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T HANDLE IT!!!!
I hear you Tamera. I am a curly hair vlogger. Thank you ladies for discussing this.
ADRIENNE TOTALLY CAME FOR MY 3 STRANDS LOL HOW DARE YOU 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
the non black women seemed to get it more sadly. smh at the other women on this show
My thoughts exactly... it's crazy.
Black females want to touch my hair. I’m just jealous of how they style their hair
Damn Adrienne that's how you really feel lol. A white woman can have the same hair as you, and you share the same texture as a lot of " white women"
ineedya123 Adrienne's hair is naturally curly tho... she just straightens it and wears extensions/wigs like other people do
ineedya123 she was just trying to make a point..calm down becky
ineedya123 her hair is actually vety curly kinda like tamera she just was heat damage so it does have the curls it used to but it those 3lw days
I'm black lol
Yall there are snow white women with curly hair. Is my only point, the most different from white hair is afro hair,
I have always thought curly hair is more beautiful than stick straight hair.
Too many stories I could talk about, but all those stories make me so much stronger
Red Delphino hmmm... I guess I could see that though. I just don't find it offensive when people want to touch my hair.
People touching your hair amd being surprised that its soft, was your bad experience
