Well, actually you can see the whole thing from this gas operating system since in this video, I don't miss nothing. It is just a little white piston part that just hit the bolt section, but it is not conected with the bolt like happens with the Ak-47 or other models. This system makes the bolt to moving correctly cordinated with different calibers.
The bolt group is a large and heavy piece with a guide runner that is square. It runs the length of the barrel up until the gas piston. ( you can see it slightly above centre screen at 1:19 ) The gas comes out the gas port, hits the gas piston which is a short small piece, you can see it at 1:00 in the video. The gas pushes this, it hits the long square bolt carrier group. This group has the cocking handle imbedd into it. This is why the handle is reciprocating. Which some people don't like. Means the charging handle goes back and forth with the action. What is interesting about it is that the gas pushes the entire bolt carrier group right from the front of the upper. The bolt carrier group extends to the very front of the weapon. I haven't see this in a weapon before. This is not to allow for changed in calibre. That is incorrect. It is to allow the weapon to remain clean after heavy firing. To change calibre you need a new bolt, a new barrel and new lower. Its quite a bit actually. In other works the 17s was built first taking the 7.62 then they built a new barrel, a new bolt and smaller magazine well for the 5.56. While you can change them over, its not like you would do it in the field carrying all of that as well as the additional 5.56mm ammo. That would be crazy. Same thing could have been done for the Ar-15 if they had built it for 7.62 and then done the same thing as the SCAR. Duel calibre is simply a marketing ploy.
