I like my 150 and 200 size as well. I had the choice of the Metanium DC or the JDM Antares DC MD. I chose the JDM Antares DC MD. Since I retired outside the USA, I do my own service. 70 size is just too small for me. I like the option to be able to use both braid or monofilament line. I enjoyed the video. It’s still great to see Shimano making improvements in their fishing reels.
Just watched this videos, and checked my Metanium 24 DC, and it is JDM models, i never had any problems on the the jdm models... opened it once for regrease and oiling, felt fantastic as ever... no problemo
Purchased 2 metanium DCs when visiting Japan. Love the reel. Casts like a dream for distance and accuracy. I service my own reels so I’m not worried about the shimano service.
Thanks for your review. It really helped me a lot because It’s the opinion of someone that really use this reel. I hope to find this Metanium DC 70 xg to purchase in the US when I visit this country in the next year. Hugs from Brazil.
I have a jdm model, it’s been fine so far. It needs a season to really judge it. My curado bfs made it three seasons and now it’s not casting right. So I’ll have to open it up and take a look. So far the only shimano or Daiwa I’ve had something go wrong with are curado’s. I have a curado K that did the same thing. It just needed a cleaning.
@@ChewyThaoFishing Yeah I really like the reel. It’s sitting on a 6’10” M poison adrena and it was made for it. I build my own rods but that combo is slick.
Two very different reels. Its like comparing a Toyota Camry to a Lexus IS 500. Yes, they both get you to point A and point B but its HOW you get there that is the difference. My advice - purchase and use what you can afford.
I’m one of the ones experiencing trouble with the metanium dc . One cast it may cast beautifully and the next will be a cast that come straight out of hell . I can tighten the tension down to stop from bird nesting but the distance suffers. I do know how to use a dc model, I have a Slx dc that just walks all over this metanium . I can tell that the metanium is malfunctioning because the slx doesn’t act the same way while casting. By the way mine is a jdm version and don’t know how to go about getting this fixed.
I love that you said you can use a wide range of weights I’m in the market and you helped narrow down my decision. Do you recommend this for a beginner but a fast learner?
i have the jdm version and was experiencing the casting problems at first but after I awhile it started casting waaaaay better I also had to take some line off the spool cause of snags so i dont know if thats what helped it.
Hard to decide. Both are very great and my answer would depend on what you are using it for. Imo, I think that the new DC system is better than the old one. Can’t wait to see the new dc system in a 150 sized reel.
The JDM models are a couple hundred bucks cheaper than tackle warehouse has them for 500 plus tax I never had a JDM reel give me an issue and to pay 150 to 200 more For me, I will stick with the JDM versions
i had ZERO issues with my jdm Met DC 70 and liked it...performed very well. fortunately, i was able to sell it for another steez 24. speaking of which, you'll be glad to hear the steez 24 comes with a nice reel cover.
The jdm version is the exact same model as the one offered in the U.S. it was the same for the previous model met15 dc. I think people are fishing it with too light of gear due to the 70 size spool as I can outcast a 110 with an alderbaran compared to the met dc.
JDM or USDM doesn't makes any different; truthfully it just user error; but i will said this; this reel is not made for beginner friendly. because this spool is much faster super up inertia compares to like a SLX DC or Curado DC
@@tjbeastgamer1679 Sure ... whatever you say. so what's the difference then; the US version have more adjustment? they all have the same DC unit nothing special; beside the price different. beside some guy said so ... really? what about you then can you tell the different 😂

I have 2 of the JDM models and the fish just fine, its definitely user error they are the most refined and best casting reels I have ever used.
Glad to hear! I’ve heard mixed reviews but more positives than negatives which is a good sign! Thanks for sharing

Aqui nos Estados Unidos não se manda abraços pros outros, irmão… Eles dizem “Greetings” (saudações). Abraço!

Thanks and really like your reviews keep them coming. I’ve purchased reels from a couple JDM sites and have been very satisfied.
Glad to hear, David. Appreciate you for commenting and watching!
Oh crap! I just bought the JDM model! Haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I’ll definitely leave a comment here if it does have any issues.
Some mixed reviews - hopefully, you got a good one! Interested to hear - keep me updated please!
I think this is the reel I want now. I only throw texas rigs or 3/8 jigs, I just bought a nrx+ 894c. I res I fish gets windy alot so the dc might help
You’ll love this reel on the 894! If you’re throwing mostly 3/8 jigs, I would go 893 but if you plan to use Texas rigs too, go with 894.
@@ChewyThaoFishing 894 supposed to deliver today from TW 🤙🏼
So if I get a Jdm metanium I have no chance of it getting fixed if there is a problem?
You can buy 2 SLX DC XT baitcaster for the price. It has has the same spool MGL 3 70 size spool.

@@ChewyThaoFishing do you know if the MGL 3 spool is actually lighter for the 2024 Metanium DC?

I have a Stella and it came with a pouch - really miss it for my Metanium DC 71 HG.
No issues with casting (European batch).

Same here! I was really underwhelmed with it but after a couple of trips it is casting way better.
Glad to hear! Not sure WHY that would even happen but i'm glad you are not having that issue anymore.
New idc5 or 4x8 dc? Which one u think is better. Maybe do a top 3 dc comparison

Just got the JDM model and beat it up for past 3 days. no issues, i can bomb lures and no backlashes. Most likely user error.
Do you have trouble with like capacity or is it food
Good

Glad to hear no issues! It's not every JDM reel but the problem exists... I love Daiwa for doing that, i just don't like their price hike!
@@ChewyThaoFishing yeah it's tough dropping $750 stateside when you can get it for almost $300 less from JLS. thank the heavens for JLS!
I only have 6 casting combos & this year I switched all my reels to the ‘24 Steez & ‘24 Metanium dc, both are awesome at jdm prices
Major downgrade to a steez from a met
@BottomLineBassin2 you've never thrown a steez then in other words.

im pretty sure the only difference is the the handle is shorter on the JDM version. but it still feels amazing.
How does it do with 17 or 20lb test?? Flouro or mono
Thanks for watching! Handles just fine. You just get less line capacity but handles just fine.
10 year update is good use most my reels for that long

How do you know if it is a US model or a JDM model?
It’s pretty obvious, US stores carry the US models and if you go to a JDM online store then they will be selling the JDM model
haha. i know that spot. lots of giants there but hard to catch
