The prom dress I ordered came in the mail last minute and it's like 6 inches too long (with heels on) my sewing is a bit rusty and I had no idea how to hem the skirt without making the end uneven THANK YOU FOR THIS ✨
i don't understand how it works.... but it does work so great! It takes me maybe a 20 minutes more time, but it is so much easier afterward! Thank you for that!
i just used your guidance on making a hem on a dress that was hanging for months. and i made the circle hem! i couldnt for the life of me do it. i kept looking for ways thinking its torture and way too hard. now it see its a cinch to do. and no genius work. its just a willingness to do. and not give up. thank you. you made my day. i have another dress i could wear.
I was having so much trouble doing a stay stitch then ironing. I ended up running the hem line through my serger, then ironing and using pins to still hold down the serged hem , then was able to do a zigzag stitch and finally got it to lay down flat without bunching and gave me a really nice closed hem on the inside! I was going crazy on these skirts! Your tutorial helped so much and I was able to put a spin on it to make it work for me! Thanks so much!!
Great tip! I use this method for straight hems too, it acts like stay stitching to stop fabric stretching. I have never made a circle skirt so am off to watch you teach that! Love your tutorials 😀
Thank you for this video - I love circle skirts, and I've gotten a really good pattern to make them, and it's wonderful to have instructions on how to hem it correctly
Great video. Thank you. I am new to your channel and desperately trying to research how to hem a flared skirt. Feeling confident now, thanks to you. Great video, and good lighting, which I really appreciate. Thanks. Excited to follow you.
Ah, this is the best way, thank you. I really like your channel, you are so enthusiastic and obviously love to sew. Your tips are just great, and always demonstrate a easy way for a professional finish.
Thank you for the video. I find if you sew a line around the quarter inch or the half inch like you did and then fold on the actual stitched line and iron it’s actually perfect and far easier..
I am a beginner sewist-this tip is great!!!! So much easier than others I’ve seen. I do have a question-why not sew a 5/8 line of stitching (if that’s the hem called for) and then fold along the line of stitching, and then fold under? Is it easier to see if you fold in an added 1/8 inch with the line of stitching 1/8 below the fold? Always considering I’m consistently able to add that 1/8 inch by eyeball 😜. I used this method the first time I sewed a very full hem, but now I don’t remember if I eyeballed the extra 1/8 or just folded on the 1/2 inch sewn line. Thanks for any advice 😁
Great tip! Will show us how to make a skort? I tried following a pattern, and I need help, nothing went right. I can follow you if you make a video. Thank you.
I love what you do and I lined a circle skirt using my method, which was to sew the lining to the hem line of the skirt first wrong sides together and then flip it to the right side abd smooth everything from bottom to top; now pin the tops together and sew them. Then attach the waistband last. Make sense?
OMG , Lord Jesus!!!!!! Girl you would not believe the mess I just sewed . I wished I had find this video before . I am getting soooo much trouble with CURVES , but what if its chiffon or some other difficult fabric ???? HUGE FAN , I love and enjoy all your videos immensely . ❤❤❤
Haha. Yea. Chiffon and silky fabrics can be harder, but this method would be EXTRA helpful with that kind of fabric. Another idea is to do a rolled hem, with a presser foot that's meant for that. Have fun sewing! Dana
If you were to see a basting line at about an eighth of an inch from the edge as well, you can pull up the basting stitch just enough to ease in the fullness. It makes it much easier to fold it up and press.
I'm not sure how to make the closing on a shirt like you are wearing in this video !!! What a coincidence that I see this now ! Could you help me please ? I love your explanations, so clear ! Thanks
I have been loving your videos, thank you for your clear instructions. I have been looking and unable to find a video tutorial on how to sew with toole. I want to make a two layer skirt with a crenelin skirt underneath...thank you
Hi. Just found you. New sub :). I need help with 2 things I’d like to make for the grandkids. One is an elastic waist gathered skirt and shorts for 12-18 mos. the issue is the fabric I like is a knit and a bit stretchy. I’m thinking zig zag all over, but I’m a little nervous about the pocket for the elastic in the waist. Someone suggested I sew the elastic to the fabric, pulling as I go. That seems too hard lol. The other project is a rolled up burrito style pillowcase for a standard pillow. I think they’re cute and the grandkids will love them. There are several videos on this but now that I found you I’m hoping you will do a video on both projects :).
Tip: I lined my skirt so I stitched the two pieces of fabric together lining to hem. Then I pinned the lining to the waist so it matches and then sew the lining to the skirt waistline. Then proceed with her waistband tutorial. Easy
Thanks! I have a Baby Lock machine called LYRIC. You can read more about it on my site: www.madeeveryday.com/2014/11/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own.html/ And you can see more about it my video here: ruclips.net/video/MRE4TABLswU/видео.html
Can you make a video about Shirring like you would on a toddler dress?? Ive been trying to learn how to do it but I have a singer sewing machine with a top loader bobbin, and I still can’t figure out how to do it. :) I love how easy to follow your videos are! Thank you in advance Dana!
Hi ms dana, if you have time can you teach me how to repair a uniform specifically a dress with colar/ blouse with colar? Thanks in advance! Your videos are awesome by the way! Thanks for sharing your talent 😊
Can you show us how to sew scrunches? They are really popular at my daughters school and I can tell that they are very easy to sew, but I can’t get it quite right...
Hi there… I really enjoyed watching your videos. They are so well done easy to follow, and your great for the beginning sewer! I would love love for you to do a video on how to make a kimono! The videos out there aren’t great. I know it’s a simple project and you would be great at instructing folks how to do one well.
In this video I'm using a Baby Lock machine called LYRIC. You can read more about it on my site: www.madeeveryday.com/2014/11/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own.html/ And you can see more about it my video here: ruclips.net/video/MRE4TABLswU/видео.html I also just got a new Baby Lock machine called "Brilliant" and I love it! (it's very similar to the Lyric)...and it's part of a whole series of machines called the "Genuine Series". You can see all the Genuine machines here: babylock.com/genuine
I thought I was doing something wrong as when I finished hemming it didn't lie completely flat, but this is exactly how mine turned out but I never pressed it afterwards I just sulked and unpicked it, definitely going to press it next time
Could you use a similar method with creating a casing for the elastic, say for a flannel skirt where you don't want the elastic to show? I have someone asking for a few skirts for their daughter but without the elastic showing. I'm stuck, flannel doesn't stretch 😅
I think a zipper foot would work better because you can get a really narrow and close and precise hem with a zipper foot more so than with a regular all-purpose sewing foot.
Sorry I was still on my son's account ! So I'm struggling with the closing of a blouse like the one you have on ! Could you help me with that ? I'm a little uncertain about how to do the bottom of it ... Thanks a lot ! Love your video's !
I want to be a fashion designer when I grow up I all ready have a internship in the 5th grade. I would love to have a RUclips channel about my life and show the awesome things I learn 👍🏽if u think I should share my life story with you guys
This was a great tip thanks! Also, I saw in your post that you were having artists block. I was thinking maybe a beach/summertime collection that has seahorses and shells, mermaids and some fun prints that go along with that. Sandcastles! Just a thought! :)
Thank you thank you! You always leave such sweet comments :) And yes! I was thinking something Summertime related also.... We're on the same wavelength! Thanks for chiming in :) Dana
Thanks for this tip. I didn't catch what you did with the "basting" stitching you first sewed. Do you take it out when finished? Do you leave it because it doesn't show?
How do you stop the hem from looking sort of twisted? I ironed my hem down, but there is a twisty look to some parts. Is if becaise there's a bit of a stretch?
Hi Dana this is Kim from UK I have been watching your channel for quite some time I love the doughnuts skirts I've watched this one and you make a little doll doughnut skirt for your daughter my daughter's birthday is coming up she's going to be 3 I brought her own little black African doll but I'm having difficulties of finding clothes for the doll as it is not an 18-inch doll it's slightly smaller so I'm trying to make clothes for the doll but not having excess could you help in any way many thanks Kim
Hi I tried to hem a circle skirt with thicker fabric for an adult size using this technique . However the folding over the hem seems to be maki it pucker. Is it better to fold fabric over once?
Hello, your channel is great. I went to the website to try and purchase the Babylock are you going to offer and sell it on your own page. Kind of difficult to locate in my area.
Hi Nikki, thanks! I don't sell Baby Lock machines through my site. You need to buy it through a retail shop....but I believe they ARE going to carry some models soon, which can be purchased directly through their site. But for now you can look at the models here and locate a retail shop on their site: babylock.com/machines/sewing And here's more info about the one that I have on my site: www.madeeveryday.com/2014/11/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own.html/ And you can see more about it my video here: ruclips.net/video/MRE4TABLswU/видео.html

I have searched the internet to no avail so I thought I'd ask you. Do you know why I sometimes get an extra loop of thread around my bobbin? When I try to pull the fabric away there are four strands, the extra coming from the spool.
i think that might be the upper thread ready to go around the lower thread (and then up again as it does when you're sewing). if you turn the needle-controlling wheel so the needle is all the way up again the loop should disappear as it's pulled straight or if it's stuck you can cut it off and pull the looped bit up and out of the way.
Hi! My question is a bit off topic to this particular video but I hope you can help me: I want to replace my needle on my sewing machine but it is not coming out even though I fully unscrewed the needle bar clamp. Any help?

its a lot easier doing the hem this way. i tried it and it worked perfectly. i made a beautiful neat hem. i was surprised myself. its a genius hack
I was having so much trouble doing a stay stitch then ironing. This is wonderful. I recently bought a set of rolled hemming feet for my machine and it’s changed the game

I want to make a full circle for my grand daughter I was told she wears 5t dress, what size of end triangle do I cut out for 22-23" skirt? Thank you!
How did you make the cats the same way all around?
Can you blind hem a circle skirt? Making my daughters wedding dress and don’t want a line of stitching at the hem that’s visible. Thanks
Yes, you can definitely add a blind hem to a circle skirt or dress. Sorry I don't have a video for that, but I'm sure there are some here on youtube!

would snipping like in the arm, or neck hole not be the same? (new sew momma)
So pretty! Thank you!
Hi. Very good
Can you make a circle skirt with a sewn waist band?
