      Although I love and respect my own father, and although he was far from perfect, and tried his best, I would probably never want to be like him, through, looking at other men throughout the years, I have a great idea as to what kind of father I would like to be. What many folks should understand, whether you’re black, white, Latino, etc. Is that you come from your parents, but you are not your parents, their responsibility is to raise you and get you ready for the world you will face. It’s not going to mean that they’ll be there all the time, it’s not even going to mean that they have all the answers, you live life in order to find those answers, When you have your own kids to raise, it is your direct responsibility to have as many answers as you can in order for your own kids, to go out there and be productive citizens, and do all of it without any type of regrets towards those who raised them, or didn’t raise them.

    My father passed in 2021. I remember people at the funeral speaking about how reliable he was. I was literally mind blown as one of the 5 children he did absolutely NOTHING for. And when l stood up to speak, my mother was terrified lol. But l started off by saying “when a person leaves this earth. All that really matters is the good memories you have” And l went on to speak on the few good times we had. I could’ve slandered him for hours. But to me that’s spitting on that person’s grave

      Duly noted!...Less we forget though, those of us who've experienced/ endured that level of trauma could absolutely care less about the "societal charade" of being liked and or accepted. Sometimes there's value in interior "scar tissue" i.e, , being a more patient, empathetic, conscious and- most importantly- apologetic parent as we, ourselves, continue to grow. Which, I believe is much more in line with the theory of "go in the complete opposite direction" of what was demonstrated to us by our fathers.

    To Lala’s point that Stephen A doesn’t care about what ppl think of him. . . when you have a parent who doesn’t care about/love/support you, like his father, it prepares you to not get caught up on what others have to say about you. His book is really good.

      I was just commenting how learning about his upbringing, I better understand the things about his personality I don't like, along with the things I do. It's not just about, not caring about what people think about him, which goes into having a sense of empathy for others, and or what they think. But he can't give or extend to other people what he didn't have, doesn't know how to give, or was never extended to him.

This idiot all he had to say when she ask him what he thought about the Super Bowl is that he is looking forward to the half time show. He is hope the best for Rihanna doing the half time show. Sherrie didn’t ask him for who the best or to compare Rihanna with Beyoncé. When Katy Perry did the halftime show no one compared them. They just appreciate both ladies had an opportunity to to do magnificent show. He sit their with his unattractive self and will not admit he was wrong. I didn't think the issue or conversation was a debate about whether people have a right to like who they like. Sherris question wasn't about making a comparison. That's where Stephen took it. It's about Reading the Room.
      Reading the room is not about being right or speaking your truth.
      It's more about is it the right time and place to be right, and about speaking your truth in love. In a way that unites more than it divides.
      He would have been right to say what he wanted and felt to say at his Father's funeral, and what he said would have been the truth. But some people felt ut wasn't the right time and place.

      @r.m.90 Год назад +2

      The point was that it was unnecessary. It wasn't a debate. All he could have said was he's looking forward to seeing Rihanna, and he hopes she does a great job. Instead, he used it as an opportunity to say she isn't as good as Beyonce. It's not hard to grasp. It was also catty for a male.

    • @anotherpointofview222
      @anotherpointofview222 Год назад

      @R. M. "Catty" Yes. Something about that word captures it exactly for me.
      Like he's Flexing some basic "Alpha" male attitude while puttin off some catty feminine energy. The "cat fight" he conversationaly created was uncalled for and totally unnecessary.
      I agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There is just a difference for me between being asked for your opinion on someone and being asked to make a comparison between two individuals.

    I love and appreciate SAS but he is missing the point about Rhianna/Beyoncé. The issue is not having a preference for artist, but he hijacked a moment about Rihanna to talk about "who she isn't" and made Rih's "moment" about how she doesnt compare to Beyonce. There was no issue with Kanye telling the world how much he loved Beyonces album at the VMA'S. But doing it in the middle of Taylor Swifts speech is what makes it inappropriate. lol Bad timing bro

      @@bigdrawls5316 " However the music game is different than the sports world" We LITERALLY rank who is the best hip hop artists 365 days a year , and nobody saying we pitting kendrick against j Cole. Heck MJ and Prince been debated who is the goat , and none of the fanbases call for infighting. It's just debates that will last for all of time. Everyone is entitled to their favorites, SAS included. We need to get to the point where we can respectfully disagree and move on, instead of attaching narratives that are false equivalencies, if I am unsure about what someone said, it is ok to ask rather than to assume. would save a lot of headaches and "cancel culture", in my honest opinion.

      Nah...Stephen A Smith was on point 100%. He expressed his preference and that was fine. Not everything is "black girl magic" and being pitted against each other.. Stop being so sensitive. The world doesn't owe you understanding. They are both great artists in their own right. La La I think is a great CO host and an addition to the Breakfast club but this wasn't his intent. We have 2 black quarterbacks for the first time in the Super bowl. If you have a preference over one over the other its what you prefer. Some of ya'll do too much. If you want to fall on the "sword" then talk about Jason Whitlock blaming Black women for the situation with the 5 cops. That is more of an issue then Stephen A talking about who he prefers.

    I had a father similar to that. He was in and out when I say that is he lived there but he came home when he wanted. I’m the only child out of 22 half siblings. My siblings worship the ground he walked on. My memory is the guy that beat me with rings on his hand because I had a nightmare and screamed for my mom at the age of 10. He swole the whole left side of my face. That man was pure evil, to me and my mom. That was the last time he hit me. It would be at 13 I got him to stop hitting my mom. At 18 I put him out and was willingly to die but he was going with me because I had a child at a young age and she had to live in the house with me. She was not going to feel that energy or be around it. I’m 49 and there’s still things I remember until this day he did to me.
