Lol i genuinely hate the bazaar system. I play conan sporadically. I have 6000 hours in the game but I tend to do a very long play session on pvp servers and then burn out and quit for a while... I have missed the storm glass expansion every time lol. I even want the sandstone extension, never get it
For sure. I would buy quite a few of the building sets if I had access to them, but again, as a casual, they just never seem to be on the bazaar when i am.
My favorite sets are Aesir, Aquilonian, Argossian and Stormglass, with Turanian and the arcane pieces for accents. I'm also partial to combining black ice with the Lost Dungeon and Stromglass sets. The war torn stuff is super niche- I've used it to make a ramshackle building for a haunted place and also a neglected building used as a clever way to hide base storage.
Thanks E. Very informative. I've played this game since before public release and the build aspect keeps me playing. I'm always looking for something new to try and that's why I keep coming back to your channel.
I just wish each set had the rest of the pieces. the ones missing wedge pieces, vaulted ceilings, double wide doors and arch walls, curved walls, etc would be nice
Having played this game since it launched pretty much, i have a dif S tier- For me Stormglass is firmly up in S tier, in all it's glory. It was beautifully crafted, kept in the same theme as the Siptah vaults and i fell in love from day one with it. Then the extention just elevated it even further. I still find myself struggling to use the other sets. But when i do, is Turanian and Aquilonian/Argosean ones. Never liked stone/stonebrick ones, and black ice was borderline accepable before Stormglass came out. Just hated the icy spikes through it everywhere. Then the rest i liked elements but not the whole sets. Like the frontier floor and ceiling carvings as well as the interior walls, so pretty. Or the Yamatai gold trims you mention hating. I really like that for interior walls for an added luxurious feel. PS: Much prefer flotsam to stone as a starter.
That build in the intro is stunning. Im a bit annoyed that they lock this stuff behind so many different paywalls and battlepasses, and i now find that i cannot even access some of the nicer sets because they were in the battle passes.... great.
The Yamatai set did exactly what it needed to for improving Yamatai. The awnings alone added so much, as well as the sliding doors and partial balconies. I'd like to see a similar awning treatment for a Khitan expansion now, and some other hanging awnings (as opposed to the base ones with poles, as they do make placing things hard) for other sets.
i think some large scale expansions to the vanilla building sets would be pretty neat, make stonebrick and the like better, maybe they can do for the other vanilla sets what the timber did for sandstone. Kitan and Frontier need an expansion aswell, not sure how they decide what set gets the next expansion but hopefully we get something soon.
I can't lie, I was initially against doing lots of expansions, instead preferring new sets, but given the bar of quality for Yamatai Towers is so high, I'm more for it now. Khitan is a rough one, I'm not exactly up to brush on Chinese architecture but there's a lot to draw inspiration from. Frontier is a bit more uncertain, but I think there's a few different ways they can take it. Stormglass, Yamatai and Argossean have made logical sense, seems to be a mixture of popular ones, and ones that aren't quite hitting the "vision" of what people want to make. I think Khitan will definitely get an expansion soon
@Eradicati0nn I hope they expand the Khitan building set, too. I actually rather like it, personally though it does get a bit monotonous to build only using it alone.
First off, another entertaining vid, Thanks! I'd like to see a companion to this video basing your opinion on how well the sets work functionally across the board with everything. Stable being an example of a set that works well with almost every other set and makes building more fun with its snapping capabilities. Stable could earn an S tier. After all, how often do we build with just one set if it's not for content about that specific set? Just a thought.
I would’ve put War Torn Nemidian into F tier. It’s a set that makes me think that Funcom was internally testing having building pieces show the amount of damage they’ve received and decided to sell the set as a standalone item when it wasn’t going to work.
Nemidian is my favorite set. For me it's in the S tier. I wouldn't pay full price for the war torn expansion but I might pick it up if it goes on a good sale.
i always make an scuffed slop when i make my first base to roleplay the inexperience of the character but i wouldnt pay to have a building set that is literally ruins. feels i should be able to find those on my own exploring then sleep in them.
I'm surprised you ranked the Lost Dungeon set so highly. I LOVE it! Best set they have made, and i do agree it is very difficult to work with. I must add that it does feel unfinished, it needs triangular wall pieces and half-moon section to fill in floors etc.
Had I made this video a month or two ago, it probably would have been lower. Only when I was making the Dungeon tips video recently did I start to click a bit more with Dungeon
Dungeon & Stormglass are the sets I use the most, with Frontier next. Dungeon definitely has its issues, but I prefer the less 'civilized' sets, as my interpretation of the Hyborian aesthetic is much more fantasy-barbaric, and less classic medieval. I see great builds done with Nemedian, for example, but the style is just too... neat and tidy for me. One thing that doesn't get talked about enough in Conan building is light, and specifically light leakage, which bugs me no end. If I want to make a hidden base, the last thing I want is for all the foundations and walls to have that uncanny glow that calls attention to it from miles away. I'd heard people didn't like Frontier cos it was 'too dark', but to me, it just seems to do a better job of not leaking light all over the place, which is what I want! And I actually like the spiky roofs lol The Greek/Roman/Asian style sets are cool, but are a bit too niche for me to use very often, as they kinda demand a full build in that style, and don't work too well in the mix, as they're so distinct. Yamatai, for example, doesn't feel like it belongs in Hyboria at all tbh, although I'm aware that RE Howard freely mixed up his historical inspirations in all kinds of anachronistic ways... As a new player, it's sad to see that the old DLC sets were ditched. But as a PC player, there's some compensation to be had in the mods that offer build sets! I'd like to see you rate some of those too? Northern Timber is superb, with the Bossonian and especially the Stockade styles proving invaluable in plugging some of the gaps in the original DLCs. I'd love to hear a round-up of any other mod sets that you recommend...
Agreed on the point of Nemedian being a little too clean at times, the more grimy elements of dungeon is part of why it's grown on me as of late. I've made a couple of videos about lighting I think, light leaks are a pain depending on how you've lit your build, though wall torches are super useful for pushing light away from leak points. I've actually already covered Northern Timber a while ago, I gave it a good review, it's one of my favourites. I also covered a Nemedian mod recently, though I've always got eyes out for interesting looking mods, especially building or something unique like basements
Using a single set to build in 2024 seems counter productive. I am always mixing sets. For me many builds pop when you mix pieces from different sets. I joined Conan late during age of sorcery and quickly purchased all the DLCs for their build sets. I do not regret that choice. I also work on server without admin rights so when I build it is all legit no creator mode for me. When I build something I have done ALL the legwork and I often have to build "scaffolding" to reach places others fly to make. Which my mates joke that to me the most treasured resource in Conan exiles is stone! my builders build is 20 authority, 20 expertise and a mix of other stats. Why the 20 Authority? How else am I suppose to get two bearers and a deer to carry all my resources for me while building? why the deer? It is smaller than a horse gets in my way far less than a horse. Horse for resource gathering sure, as I can ride it but a deer when actually building. For people who build without creator mode... My favourite tool is the pickaxe because it makes fuel production an ease. With a pickaxe i can gather all the wood and bark I need to make dry wood to fuel my kitchens and my smelters. Excess wood becomes shaped wood and the excess bark becomes fuel for the tannery. Dry wood comes from using a single tool on trees, oil requires either fish and a press or a tier 3 thrall to turn bark and ichor into oil which means I have to harvest both trees and ichor from animals. Oil only stacks in groups of 500 taking twice as much space as dry wood which stacks in groups of 1000.
Oh, you surprised me with such a high rating for Frontier! The only things I like about that set is the foundations and the ceiling, which I often use to give accents (not an english speaker, sorry if I wrote this wrong) to other sets. I miss playing CE, and I can go back anytime. It's just that my hyperfocus, currently, is a fully modded Fallout 4. I love that I can build full settlements there, which, surprisingly, was what attracted me to CE in the first place, but FO4 does it better for me.
I think it was a bit unfair to Stable to count it as a full build set. I think it is more of a large accessory kit. I use the open frames a lot in my builds. A lot of the sets I find have really cool uses- Frontier is great for its stairs and fences, Turanian I find works really well for luxury interior rooms, and as the basis for bold pyramid structures with those gold slopes. Even Khitan I have mixed with stormglass for a strong red and black theme, though I would rather put Yamatai roofs on it. Arena is S tier for me, as it forms the foundation (literally) of almost all my builds. The only one I have which I could probably ignore is Aquilonian. Everything it does, I feel that Argossean does better.
Agreed, I'm much more familiar with (and a fan of) Medieval European, but I'd love a good Chinese-styled expansion, it could easily make the Khitan set far better
Would say that the building in this game is so good that we are only limited by our creativity and building skills. Personally I'm a level 12 T1 builder picked up just north of noob river. Can recognize greatness but can't quite execute, bit frustrating at times. I make up for it with placement and decorations. Would say that blends of different build sets can easily catapult all of the sets to S tier. Mixing, properly done, goes a long ways. Also, the charm of sandstone puts it into S tier for me. Storm glass, while it's great, to me is jarring in the setting of the Exiled Lands. It's too nice. I mean, what prisoner here can build this stuff! Yeesh. Why would u ever want to leave? :)
You said it - Frontier was a bit of a longshot IMO. I'd give it a C in terms of exterior as it's mostly just a blob of brown scales and spikes. But interiors is an absolute S. Add different roofs, some better window options alongside a gray-greenish stone foundations and it would rock.
I never understood the Storm lass struts. I thought they were supposed to be used like a flying buttress but the game never allowed you to snap it to act as a buttress. They missed a critical design element with the Yamati extension set by not including slopped sided foundation elements. A Japanese castle is really defined as much by it's slopped stone foundation as it's superstructure. Funcom could have easily taken the pyramid foundation pieces and given them a Yamati stone texture.
There's definitely a little learning curve with the flying buttresses, I don't recall if they actually give you any stability but they can be used to emulate the style, though they are a little small for my liking. I'm not too up to brush on Japanese architecture, but sloping foundations/walls in the fashion you described would have made Yamatai Tower even better
I agree with most of this but for me personally Aesir is S tier. Probably the set i use the most. And it can be combined so well with so many others well if you think it looks drab.
Honestly, I played around with Aesir being on the S tier for a bit. If I were to segment the tiers more, Aesir would definitely be right on the upper echelon of A tier, it's a very good set
I'd love to, but I'm afraid that I'm only a PvE/RP builder, PvP is a whole other kettle of fish, any advice I would try to give would sadly be useless I think Ceronesthes has a video about building in PvP, he's a far more reliable source on the matter
In my opinion the War Torn Nemedian set is A tier for what its there to accomplish. As someone who solely plays conan for RP on Low and High fantasy settings, the War Torn Nemedian build set is something I have used extensively to portray battle damage after large scale raids or other war-esque events on servers. It combines well with about any build set similiar to it and can create insane looking ruins. Would it be a set worth having in regular conan vanilla? No.
Oh my lord I forgot the chessboard 🤦♂ On it's own it's D tier bc it's just foundations, but as a combo, it'd probably be upper realms of B tier, great combo with stormglass, aquilonian and argossean
That Zingaran build set is just ... "WHY?".. I'm a Zingaran character and just can't find use of it .. usually a pathway or where I place a planter on for a contrast
I guess it was something they thought could fit into the battle pass without necessarily being a full set, yet still useful. I suppose it could be if you really want stake walls, though I'd argue Aesir does it a little better, though Zingaran has a slightly more interesting design for me personally
OK Time to be constructively critical. You switched your criteria. The two S tiers (both just extensions to a base DLC) are judged with how they accent their DLC base while Derketo, stables, and Zingaran (all D tier) are judged by their set alone vs accents to all other sets (or in the case of Derketo, creating methods to build in the trees that is significantly more aesthetic than standard foundations. I could argue that the treehouse foundation makes other sets it's accent). If you took away the base DLC, would SG Cathedral and Yamatai extension still be S tier? I would imagine these would fall into D tier because they are incomplete without the base DLC and couldn't do much with them. However I get what you are trying to say and agree that the Yam and SG extensions with their base DLC is near perfection. I would have included Aesir as well in that list but that's just me. Many of your D tier is sets that fill a niche, living in the trees, stables, creating ruined environments, and I think FC nailed the niche as no other set compares to these in terms of what they bring to their design. As someone that always finds themselves in the trees in the game, I think the treehouse foundation (especially if you mix it with stables and/or insulated wood) gets a bad wrap.
I get what you mean. I don't really consider DoD, Stable or Zing in the same category as extensions, mostly because they're not framed in that way. There's a solid argument for them being augments as opposed to standalone, I find myself mostly agreeing with that, though given that they're outliers in the base set/extension format, my initial instinct was to rank them separately, as they don't have a dedicated core set to build on. My list is very much based on the whole set's usefulness, so some degree of niche application isn't accounted for. Those sets do have their usefulness though I agree with your point on Aesir, I was really debating A and S tier for it. If I were to give them weights in their tiers, Aesir would probably be the highest rank in A tier, the muddiness of the tones on its own just drags it down ever so slightly for me
@@Eradicati0nn Yeah. It's really just 'blah' grey. But there was a very good builder out there that gave some really good advice in using building depths to break up that monotone.
I know, I know...this is just a personal preference ranking....BUT... I think you underrated Turanian. Not because your opinion doesn't matter, but your explanation didn't really make sense. You complained about the roof pieces, but you didn't even take into account the purpose of the build set. I think it's best use is to have sort of an Arabian palace/base themed build. If you considered that in your ranking and you still have it as C, then that's fine. I just didn't hear that when you described your reasoning. In my ranking, I have it as an A tier simply because you can do things with that set that you can't do with any other sets within the game....especially those domed roof pieces. Edit: Ignore everything I said. I didn't realize you were ranking the extensions to the base sets as a separate set altogether. Although I really like the entire Turanian set for the reasons I said above. Definitely an A tier set for me.
I was just about to reply to this, then I saw the edit 😂 Yeah I thought it would make more sense to separate the base sets and the extensions Part of my criticism of Turanian that wasn't included in the video was how overwhelming it can feel. A couple of warm braziers and that interior is glowing big-time, I'm not a huge fan of that personally
Stable set in not D - you're completely wrong here. Pyramid is B? Its mostly useless set. You can only build pyramid-like structures from it. Also all expensive bazaar sets are C tier max (except extended stormglass and maybe yamatai)
Very true, though to be expected really. They were made 2017/2018 and are a lot older than they seem, the design vision has definitely improved for building sets since then
Did I cook with these ratings or no?

I hope they eventually add in a Extention frontier and Darfari set.
The fact that Frontier had no decoration pieces was insane to me.
You have become my favorite CE content creator. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Justin, I appreciate that greatly 🙏 Plenty more to come!

Very fair ratings. I'd put Insulated Wood and Flotsam higher as I really like how they look and I'd put Stormglass just 1 tier lower.
Oh nooo I love treehouse foundations!!!! XD I’m a tiny baser builder and they’re so fun to work with
been meaning to try this, will make a note to start very small haha

can you a vid for pvp building ? focusing in strong building expensive to break
I'd love to, but I'm afraid that I'm only a PvE/RP builder, PvP is a whole other kettle of fish, any advice I would try to give would sadly be useless
I think Ceronesthes has a video about building in PvP, he's a far more reliable source on the matter
I have the aquilonian set and cant use it, the floor pieces give me vertigo 🥴m. Which I find nuts since I can play VR very hardcore with no problems 😂
No.
That's very fair. It does what it says on the tin, and for roleplayers I can imagine it's far more useful
Cool!
It is not a full set but what is your opinion about your Grand King chessboard set’s foundation pieces?
Oh my lord I forgot the chessboard 🤦♂ On it's own it's D tier bc it's just foundations, but as a combo, it'd probably be upper realms of B tier, great combo with stormglass, aquilonian and argossean
What build is that in the intro? That looks fantastic
It's my Gothic Mansion build!

That Zingaran build set is just ... "WHY?".. I'm a Zingaran character and just can't find use of it .. usually a pathway or where I place a planter on for a contrast
I guess it was something they thought could fit into the battle pass without necessarily being a full set, yet still useful. I suppose it could be if you really want stake walls, though I'd argue Aesir does it a little better, though Zingaran has a slightly more interesting design for me personally
why is the yamatai tower set not a s+ and yea the khitan need a huge upgrade but thx for video
Mostly just because I didn't add an S+ 😂 Glad you enjoyed!
Those sets do have their usefulness though
I agree with your point on Aesir, I was really debating A and S tier for it.
I was just about to reply to this, then I saw the edit 😂 Yeah I thought it would make more sense to separate the base sets and the extensions
Part of my criticism of Turanian that wasn't included in the video was how overwhelming it can feel. A couple of warm braziers and that interior is glowing big-time, I'm not a huge fan of that personally
Hi. These extensions that you talk about. Can we get them on xbox series X? If we do, how? Thank you.
You can, extension sets are available in the Black Lotus Bazaar, so unfortunately you'll have to wait for them to rotate into the store
@@Eradicati0nn Thank you
Thanks for the video Mate.
I completely disagree with you. Regards ;)
Thanks Piotr 😂
not gonna pay them extra money for the nicer build cubes...
Nobody is going to force you to.
Why?
Stable set in not D - you're completely wrong here.
Pyramid is B? Its mostly useless set. You can only build pyramid-like structures from it.
Also all expensive bazaar sets are C tier max (except extended stormglass and maybe yamatai)
Base game sets look really outdated.
Very true, though to be expected really. They were made 2017/2018 and are a lot older than they seem, the design vision has definitely improved for building sets since then
I give this review a C. The lack of imagination hurts you.
????? this is so snobby lol, he has an entire catalog of content proving he's full of creativity, this is just rude
