The issue is that there's severe understaffing of drivers nationwide, and since demands have to be met, people need drivers on buses (which can effect quality). As much as it is a failure of the city's transit department, it is also up to the residents to demand the city to provide more funding to public transit and wages for drivers. Albuquerque has gone through 7 Transit Directors in the past 5 years, meaning no one wants to stay because they don't feel like they're making any changes. We gave cops $750+ million last year but $1.1 million to improve bus systems. We have the money, just not the leadership.
I take the bus every day and some of the drivers don't know what they are doing...driving too fast stomping the brake...city bus administration must be held accountable
This is happening lots of places because companies are short handed and people who want to work are doing everything they can to fill in the gaps, working sick, exhausted, too much on their minds from no vacations or extra hours/shifts, people doing multi-person jobs solo in a hurry.

I had Monty as my driver a few times in my life aboard the city buses. He is nice and respectful towards me as I am,towards him. However,he drives too slow,and that is very irritating to myself,and others.

I'm a Sunvan passenger. From what drivers have told me, they have to have their temperature taken every morning (or before their shift) to be cleared to drive for the day. - Over the past 2 months(+), the mgmt at ABQride has been HORRIBLE! According to the drivers, the city mgmt and ABQride mgmt couldn't care less about the drivers. Aside from this incident, but Department related, It's really baffling that the Sunvan drivers aren't given any ADA information by the city, yet they're picking up and transporting DISABLED PASSENGERS! Lately, the "NEW" drivers have been later for up to an hour and a half, leaving passengers stranded! Mind you, this discrepancy has been going on (Upon documentation) since 2014! It leaves me concerned that Disability Rights of NM has not stepped up to the plate, nor has the Governor's Commission for those with Disabilities! What happened pertaining to this incident,- it reflects what's going on internally at ABQride. The "Longtime" staff have been quitting by the handfuls due to the chaotic mgmt, leaving the department with large gaps in staff shortages. -The new hires seem to have a "Renegade" persona as they're being put in vehicles (buses and vans) and sent on their way. Once again, this incident PROVES that fact.ABQride doesn't even lift an eyebrow to their negligence upon VIOLATING the FTA policies~!

The drivers medical issues is important but the reporters talked about the bus drivers expired license for 2 seconds and then moved on. Are you serious his license expired in 2019 it's 2022, he's responsible for driving maybe hundreds of people on his work shift, how and why would his employers make sure his: commercial drivers license, background checks, DOT physical test/medical card is up to date. What happened to the backup bus drivers they should’ve called when the scheduled drivers can't make it into work or they have to leave early because of emergencies.
My husband just left that job for that exact reason! He got diagnosed with diabetes while on the job and almost died. The city couldn’t have cared less. He often worked 16 or more hour shifts back to back, and wasn’t able to take his insulin as he should have. He felt awful while driving all the time so he took the Initiative and resigned on the spot after having a terrible day of driving. Again, city didn’t care. Denied him unemployment, since he quit. This was after he told them he worried about his driving and asked to do something else within the department. He worked through COVID was there just short of 3 years, the city doesn’t care about you! The “great benefits” weren’t worth ending up without my children having a father or taking a loved one from someone else like this guy could have. So sad, my husband also said this guys wife just passed recently so he was having a really hard time but of course they probably only let him have one day off…..

I was getting notices from dmv bout my commercial license expiring even after I wasn’t driving a bus anymore. When I was my job was all over us months in advance about our licenses and med certs. They knew everybody’s license info. Had to. That bus company about the get sued to high heaven bc they were completely asleep at the wheel. They’re lucky nobody died.
Maybe it was deemed "unpreventable" because it was a medical episode. Poor thing driving sick and probably vaxxed as well. Many incidents with vaxxed people getting sudden illnesses.

Let's put it this way when you get your D.O.T commercial license to drive a vehicle like a bus or any vehicle over 5000 pounds you sign that you won't drive under the influence of even prescribed drugs. Let's put it this way when you get your D.O.T commercial license to drive a vehicle like a bus or any vehicle over 5000 pounds you sign that you won't drive under the influence of even prescribed drugs. Sad to say I don't think the old man is going to be driving anytime soon. He put people's life at risk knowing he wasn't in the right mind to drive. Either the bus driver will sue the public transport Manger for making the bus driver drive or the bus driver is going to have alot of explaining to do for the many people he almost killed.
