best tutorial on this skill so far, very elaborated and detailed explanation. Your tips on focusing in the knees helped me a lot. I Learned in less than 20 attempts. I’m a beginner level skater
I've been working on this for awhile now and have noticed some people find it much easier than others. For me I have come to the conclusion that my hips are a problem and do not open enough, left hip being worse, this also impacts my transitions. My solution is yoga and especially hip opening exercises. Still an ongoing process but getting easier the more yoga i do. So if your struggling with this, search RUclips for hip opening yoga exercises...
@@artzmove571 I don't consider myself flexible at all (sit at a desk all day, unable to sit cross-legged), and eventually got it. You have to build up the muscle strength to hold it through repetition, took me a few weeks of consistent fails to get it.
@@uospoom I dance (check my channel) but I'm not flexible. I started roller skating last year and can finally glide sideways. I can't pump my legs though.
@@DLinton I am stretching by standing at a tall desk and putting my feet/knees in the mohawk position for as long as possible. I hope this works! Thanks for the reply!
@@uospoom I use the [annoying] groves in the sidewalk to keep one skate stationary. Then I work on holding the other in the sideways position as long as possible. I'm currently working on going a little further than 180°.
Awesome tutorial for this elusive yet important skill to have. i practiced here and there in the past, i'll follow your guidelines this time. Much appreciated!
Loved the tutorial! I have been practicing via your video and I able to skate sideways in a circle. But in a line I have difficulty moving my legs in and out while keeping my balance band creating speed. But I will this down!
Took me about 2 months to learn to roll sideways in kind of a straight line. what a journey :D now with the other foot in front feels like starting from the beginning again ^^" but this move is soooo fun. thank you so much for this...
Absolutely love it. I can imagine myself doing the move as I'm watching. Just got to put it into motion now. It's definitely a part I hate about my skating, transitions are at a slow speed and even still my backwards skating doesn't feel stable like my front. I'd happily fully bomb a hill going forward not so much backwards. Scissoring my legs is easy going forwards.
I'm still a beginner on rollerblades but I'm determined to learn an outside spreadeagle. I can do it on ice... I want to learn it on wheels now! I tried it last night and part of me thought it seemed impossible but I was hoping that if I could see someone doing it then I'd prove myself wrong.....and you've done just that, so THANK YOU!! Hard but not impossible!! 💪 I'll be coming back to this video very often!👍

@Deez Skates, Any tips on the pumping action? When my back leg pushes, I can't seem to get it back in line (to resume moving straight forwards). I end up transitioning [very nicely] to backwards skating.
Great tutorial! You guys inspire me to become a better skater! I have been outside skating with quads but now its time to go back to blades for a while for outdoors skating, and grapevine practice for quads, haha, ah.

Never had any issues before.I skate through the parking lots and walkways downtown a lot as well where the police are crawling. They've never bothered me. I even skate into the stores to get things I need while I'm out. No one even acknowledges that I have skates on really.
Hi D. Great tutorial. Need to tell you that those begginers like myself that are not flexible, this will put them off. I would be nice to know before starting. Can you put a comment in the description? Ta.
I consider myself to be more flexible than the average male and took me almost 2 months of regular practice to get my hips that open. It definitely helps if you perform hip opening exercises and stretch regularly (every day). I would watch TV at home standing with my hips in that position (use a chair or table for balance). It takes practice and it won't come fast for most, but eventually you'll get it.
Like this tutorial, i tried for long rime for this eagle but not succed yet, when i did this eagle position the direction is not straight forward but just making turn/circle.
What if I got bad ankles from bone decay and can’t get them in line with out shoes I and go sideways while turning into going backwards with a wider carve maybe I’ll just have to always do a swerve so my ankles don’t need to be dead straight?
Second time I've given this the thumbs up. Did it the first time then hit the replay button and it had been pulled! Copyright? Be careful. I've heard from other RUclipsrs that it's three strikes and your out! Like the new name. Nothing wrong with a double D though.........
Thanks for your support! Fortunately It was a claim, not a strike. I thought it was copyright free, but I was apparently wrong, so the owner took over monetization of the video. Had to get new music going and reclaim it since I put so much time into this one!
@@DeezSkates Sorry about the monetization but glad no strike. Unless the musician involved is a skating fan how did they know you were using the music?

Hi I'm looking forward to buy my first skates and I'm trying to figure out if I should buy skates with plastic wheels or rubber wheels (quads). Could you recommend me which ones? Thank you!!
Softer urethane wheels are best for outdoors, while hard wheels can serve better for indoor rinks with properly coated floors. You will need to look at the durometer rating. A higher number equals a harder wheel. Lower number means a softer wheel. Durometers tend to range between 70a (softest) and 100a (hardest). Preferences differ between inline and quads, but I personally use 85a hybrid wheels called Atom Poisons for my quad skates.
You wouldn't believe how many people ask me how I do this... But I only use it really to stretch my muscles and cruise. Never really thought about carving with it before. I'll say this to anyone struggling with it... Try to get comfortable with your feet being inverted... I had to stretch over a few days to get my body used to this position

Exactly, you have ro be able to get your feet sideways. If.youre not flexible enough, this is the issue. Not skill.
