I just picked up this camera today and only used it indoors, after seeing how good it looks outdoors with more light I've decided to keep it. thanks!! great review
Thanks for your comment Bethany, it means a lot. I just posted another review in this style. It's of the Canon G7X, my favourite camera for youtube. You might enjoy it!
Thank you for the review! I was at Best Buy Black Friday shopping and saw this camera. I searched online for info and saw your video. Needless to say, I bought the camera! Thank you for the review and footage :D
Great review! I was looking for a camera for my boyfriend, Bobsheaux and we were having a hard time finding reviews that contained actual footage. You say you don't often do these kinds of reviews but you had an EXCELLENT grasp of what a video camera review needed to contain. Thank you! This one looks perfect for his RUclips show. :D
Thank you Raven Fox! It's true I don't make many videos like this, but I'd like to review more cameras in the future. Maybe Canon will send me a free camera to review? I'll just wait here..... ...................... ......................
I don't own this camera, but I looked through the manual, and it says it DOES have a time lapse feature: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B1U1fiiPUaS.pdf
This video was awesome and packed with so much information. I got confused at the end about the tree, I thought you were talking about the one behind the car, lol. I was looking into the r800 because it is the newest model. I would imagine they would be quite similar to each other. Love the video! :)
Hi, please help me.I just bought this camcorder and I'm trying figure out how to zoom like your video at 6:32. I looked and looked to find the button or somewhere to press but I haven't seen anywhere, maybe I overlook it. Please tell me where is it.Thanks a lot.
Hi AllChitHow, on the top of your camcorder there is a slider button. Sliding one way (to the right, I believe) zooms in, and the other way zooms back out. If you hold it with your hand in the hand grip, you will notice that your finger is naturally on top of, or close to, the sliding button. Hope this helps!
Thank you for answering my question. I haven't record anything much yet; at first, I thought the button for something else like opening to see inside the camcorder. Now, no doubt any more.
Thanks Dan for taking time to test it which I really need it before I buy it , and I decide to buy it !:))! Great Reviews ! Keep it up the great job bro ! from California ...
Great Video, this camera is arriving in the mail in two days for me. I appreciate you actually using the camera for the video rather than using another camera to film you holding the camera.
This was great! I've been considering this camera and now after your video I'm definitely going to buy it. With so much to choose from out there it's so hard to know if you're making the right decision and since I'm not a big techie, I always have doubts about my electronic buys. But your test was informative and thorough and help a lot. Very much appreciated!
I'm not a big techie either. I just tried to make the video I would want to watch. I'm truly glad that it helped you out Rob, thanks for tuning in to my channel :)
Dan, Thank you so much for doing this video....I've been looking at many consumer lines to do local interviews with musicians of the music scene here around Albany, New York and thier careers over the last 30 some odd years...Most of my interviews will be held in home or studio settings with homemade lighting I've built (I will have to experiment, I will be doing audio separately close to the person being interviewed with a Zoom and will sync in Post). You gave it a fantastic run down of the pros and limitations but I think I'm sold based on my budget and the final will be a venue like RUclips...Again thank you...This is the best demonstration of a video product and advice I've seen yet on a consumer line video piece of gear.
I am in a Goodwill store and there is one of these cameras for $5.99. I went on RUclips to check out a review and ads came up with the camera at $400...wow.
All the videos on my channels were recorded using this camera! If you want to see more footage from this camera you can watch any of my videos on my channel :)
BipKeing Yep! I just got it and love it! records in beautiful 1080P which is perfect for me and easy to upload to You Tube. Compact, light, reliable...pefect for close ups! And for $169 which is what I paid for it....a steal!
Good video Dan! It seems when you're holding the cam with the tripod, you don't have to extend your arm all the way and hold it quite comfortably in your hand, right? I have one older Canon model and the lens is too narrow so I have extend my arm all the way to get my face in the picture nicely. How's the stuff with this one? Also does it have an external mic input?
Thanks for your comment Elaine, it means a lot. I just posted another review in this style. It's of the Canon G7X, my favourite camera for youtube. You might enjoy it!
Mine is in the mail.. I pray it has a pause and resume button while filming.. When I film I need to stop and pause. I do not want to have to clip 50 vids together Did yours come with a remote control?
I'm so glad you made this video. I had this camcorder in the past and sadly it got stolen from me. But i'm going to rebuy it again this friday. And seeing how the picture on it again made up my mind. Now my small channel wont have any more videos through my poopy webcam!
I am torn between the canon vixia HF R700 and the GoPro Hero 5. I have watched so many reviews but non available that are side by side. I will be mainly making home videos of our newborn and using it on family trips. What would you say would be a better fit? Thanks
I've used a GoPro before, I own the Hero 3. I find it's useful for catching action moments and stuff like that, but I really don't like it for filming many videos. The main reason is that it doesn't have a zoom. Being able to zoom gives you a lot more options as a filmmaker, and (in my opinion) makes it more fun as well!
Thanks for the tangible review, we are looking for a good starter vlogging cam and this definitely has helped. Think we are probably going to give this one a shot. 😊
a problem I'm having is when I film in 1080p/60 frames with this camera, it's nice and clear, but if I try to upload to RUclips, it's pixely and blurry. can you tell me a setting to use on RUclips or something? Thank you!
anyone know if it would be good for filming live bands in bars? what is the video like in dark places and would the sound be distorded because it's very loud
Excellent review Dan. I just purchased this cam and paid 34 bucks for it. Not bad, ha? I had rewards from Dell so I think I got a good price. I'm just starting out to do vids so this will be my first vid cam. Thx again. You do an excellent vlog/review and I think for my first cam it will be coo. thx again.
Hey Dan. Thx for responding. Ttly respect when the author responds to his vids. Makes one feel like they are appreciated. I subscribed to your chanel. One question. I bought the Sony 13 suite editing software. Do u think the camera will be compatible w/the software ? Like I said, I'm a newbie to all of this but I certainly want to learn. Appreciate any advise from u. Thx again and in advamce. Got the software free from dell.
Nice review, fellow Vancouverite - helped me decide on this camera. Just want to correct one point on your review, about the camera not having a time-lapse function. I bought this camera during the Boxing Day/Week sale 2016, and was pleased to find that indeed it DOES do time-lapse (i.e. fast-motion), as well as slow-motion. If you download the PDF of the full user manual, it should be on page 92.
Thanks for your comment Tx3JorgeX! I just posted another review in this style. It's of the Canon G7X, my favourite camera for youtube. You might enjoy it!
Thank you Dan for the intelligent and very well-structured review. I do guitar tutorials and have been told by one of my subscribers I need to get an HD camcorder; this one looks promising. I wondered if you had a chance to test the mic input, or if you had an opinion on the quality of audio recording on this compared to similar products.
Would you recommend this for nature footage? Or would you have any suggestions, I got my Canon T5i which is pretty good but I have always liked camcorders better for videos.
Just make sure you turn the lcd screen brightness up. I took it whale watching a few weeks back and in direct sunlight I couldn't see the screen properly and missed some shots I wanted. It's not perfect, but for the price range and with the crazy effective zoom it's a pretty solid device!
I love the breakdown structure of your review. Nicely done. Couple questions; does it have an input for an independent microphones? And does the screen flip around or move much?
Thanks for this video Dan. Looks pretty good for a point-and-shoot. Price isn't too high either. I might consider something like that in the future when I can afford something more than a phone camera lol
ExploringAndMe you can set it to manual focus, but it will reset back to auto every time you cut, which I found out the hard way. The better choice is to keep it in auto, but tap on the screen what you want to remain in focus (someone's face, for example).
Great video. But I have one problem with it that maybe you or someone else can help me with. How do I stop the clicking noise when pushing the start stop button?
Hey Rob, thanks man! Yes it has an external mic input. I should mention though that the external mic I have (a small one I got for my gopro) doesn't seem to work. Maybe some mics are not be compatible. I'll give an update if I learn more.
If you've appreciated this video, please take a moment to learn about my channel.

Does the camera do 60 frames per second? I'm a RUclipsr who makes "skit's and I'm looking for a new camera.
The New Travel - A like and subscribe (with notifications haha) because of Nervous Dan lol how could I resist 🙈great review - Thank you!
Mini Cooper, yes it does 60fps
Bonnie, why thank you! Welcome to the journey 🙃
The New Travel do you like in Vancouver, because I do
This was one of the best in depth reviews for a camera/camcorder I've seen so far. Thanks so much!
I just picked up this camera today and only used it indoors, after seeing how good it looks outdoors with more light I've decided to keep it. thanks!! great review
I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Thanks Jonathan!
Jonathan Renteria Jonathan is my name 2 😀
Thank you for your very thorough camera test! Such a great change from the "pointed it at plants in the backyard" approach.
Thanks for your comment Bethany, it means a lot.

Ah Black Friday! That could explain why views are higher this week. Thanks for your comment Nathan, happy I could help :)
Nathan Prescott How much did you get it for?
I_DO_STREAMS $179.00 :D
Got one on Craigslist now for 50$... I'm callin' 'em!
Do you still like it? I'm getting it to shoot some video (family, concerts, vlogs etc.) just want to know if it's still worth it
Is this grainy at all? because I just bought a camcorder but it's kinda grainy. However I recently got it and may Exchange for this camera.
This is how camera reviews should be done. Great job!
Thanks man - I appreciate it!!

You are very welcome! From Canada :)
Dan. I have the Vixia R700. Mine DOES have a time lapse feature on it. It will do several different speeds. Look at the Slow and Fast options.
Really?? Cool! I'll have to take another look :)
I don't own this camera, but I looked through the manual, and it says it DOES have a time lapse feature: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/B1U1fiiPUaS.pdf

+Mere Thanks a lot Mere! Darn, so they have a r800 now? I guess I need to do a new review 🤣
Phenomenal review! You covered every aspect of the camera possible and I very much appreciate it!
Hi, please help me.I just bought this camcorder and I'm trying figure out how to zoom like your video at 6:32. I looked and looked to find the button or somewhere to press but I haven't seen anywhere, maybe I overlook it. Please tell me where is it.Thanks a lot.

Can you use an external mic with this camera?
Great Video, this camera is arriving in the mail in two days for me. I appreciate you actually using the camera for the video rather than using another camera to film you holding the camera.
This is very helpful. I'm now more inclined to buy this camera! :)
+Cassela Mendoza Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Happy Holidays

Wow! Thank you for such a nice comment.
I had an old Vixia and what I first notice about this is how it doesn't have as much rolling shutter as the old ones, or even some modern DSLRs.
I was just wondering if i should buy this camera for my bday coming up and now i think i will, thanks man and great vid!
I thumbs up for dept of field and crisp zoom
Nice vid, probably going to buy this one. Thanks for the test!
I am in a Goodwill store and there is one of these cameras for $5.99. I went on RUclips to check out a review and ads came up with the camera at $400...wow.

Thanks for the review. I was considering buying this camera specifically because it does do slow motion and timelapse.
Awesome also that it has a mic input!
No problem! Yeah the mic input is great, I just need to get a decent mic to test it out haha
I totally went out and bought it. Thanks again! It's pretty awesome. It does slow motion and night shots as well. Great lil camera!
Good review... I might start vlogging with this

Is the "Canon Vixia HF R800" the EXACT same as the "Canon Legria HF R806"?
And same with the 700 vs. 706?
Great video & review!
Thanks Shelly :)

Thanks Jessica
The New Travel your welcome
How is the quality inside during the evening with just the lights on? Hope this makes sense
very informative. thank you
Thanks for your comment Tx3JorgeX!
I just posted another review in this style. It's of the Canon G7X, my favourite camera for youtube. You might enjoy it!
Thanks bro, this video's really useful;]
:)
Thank you Dan for the intelligent and very well-structured review. I do guitar tutorials and have been told by one of my subscribers I need to get an HD camcorder; this one looks promising. I wondered if you had a chance to test the mic input, or if you had an opinion on the quality of audio recording on this compared to similar products.
thanks body! now i want this camera!
Thanks for watching Cris
Would you recommend this for nature footage? Or would you have any suggestions, I got my Canon T5i which is pretty good but I have always liked camcorders better for videos.
Just make sure you turn the lcd screen brightness up. I took it whale watching a few weeks back and in direct sunlight I couldn't see the screen properly and missed some shots I wanted.
It's not perfect, but for the price range and with the crazy effective zoom it's a pretty solid device!
I'll keep that in mind, thanks bro
no prob ;)
Very helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome :)
This convinced me, thank you
you're welcome!
I love the breakdown structure of your review. Nicely done. Couple questions; does it have an input for an independent microphones? And does the screen flip around or move much?
Little late.. but it does have mic in and aux out. Also has hdmi out
Thanks for this video Dan. Looks pretty good for a point-and-shoot. Price isn't too high either. I might consider something like that in the future when I can afford something more than a phone camera lol
Thank you Mindset. You're right, it's nice value for the price
lol My name is Sean. I do mindset vids with my cousin Kevin :)
Nice to meet you Sean!
can you turn off auto focus?
ExploringAndMe no
User manual: Can adjust the focus manually if you want.
What microphone do you use?
Why is it dark? Can we change the brightness settings?
very good review
Thank you!
very nice review
:)
Can I use this for music videos.
I just bought that camera!!! In what quality and format were you recording Dan?? Will go to Cancun soon and want to have that quality :)
Sergio Daniel Leztark García 1080p 60fps
Nice review - thanks
:)
wow😂 I live in Vancouver and I bought my vixia hf r700 from costco as well
Haha! What are the odds! 🤣 Do you like it?
The New Travel well, I got it after the video, and you really helped me choose it.
I'm happy to hear that!
Awesome video!
it the low light test at the end using the "low light mode" or still out of the box settings?
Out of the box
Nice camcorder. Can it also take still photos?
+Max T Yes it can, though I haven't taken many with it myself
great camera i love it, very light in weight
When showing yourself can you face the screen towards you?
Yes, the screen fully rotates
I just bought it got a great deal too. Only spend 200
What setting is your camera when you shot this video??
Dude i have this camera. You should get the wide angle lens and a external mic the audio will sound better. btw great review.
Thanks Jonny. What sort of mic do you use?
The New Travel I use the Rode Video Mic Go.
ummm yes it does come with a time lapse option
does it have wind reduction?
Very good video very helpful
Nice review, I don't know if I missed it, but - can you connect an external mic on it?
Hey Rob, thanks man! Yes it has an external mic input.
I should mention though that the external mic I have (a small one I got for my gopro) doesn't seem to work. Maybe some mics are not be compatible. I'll give an update if I learn more.
I really really like this way this camera films. We're all the settings on the camera on auto during the filming of this?
yes
@@TheNewTravel sorry, one more question, does it support an external mic?
I would like to use 43mm infrared 720nm filter Canon vixia HF r700. Is this model suitable for infrared filter in a day time
Sorry but this is beyond my knowledge, as I don't know about infrared filters. Maybe someone else in the comments can help
Thanks anyway
great review
Thanks Sann! I appreciate your comment :)
this will be my very first purchase based on your review for a newbie is a camcorder easier than dslr cameras
+6kidsand8cupsof coffee Hi, this camcorder will definitely be easier to learn than a dslr: )
You’re a good looking guy for the camera! You should model or act in movies.
Oh, c'mon sweetie . . . he doesn't look any better than me!!
just one question, have any jack for mic?
yes
