I think I'm qualified to speak on this matter lol.. hitting gaps for the 1st time gives so much stoke.. but when the gap jump is in your normal ride it might as well be a table. It's the same fun.. also as far as bike parks. I'm glad most of the huge jumps are tables. And all the parks around here do have some gaps.. thunder has fort hill. Creek has the Pit.. blue has gaps on lower empire and the road gap.. so there out there. It if lower dominion was gaps too many riders wouldn't have ever even tried
Excellent point Steve! I think my argument is, places should have both options available. Having ridden with you and having you coach me through those gaps was a powerful experience for me. I don't think it would have been the same if it was a table. But your right, most features should be tables so that folks can work on their skills. I just wish more gap options were also available. Sage
Really insightful points Steve! Appreciate you commenting. Seems like the more commitment required, the more stoke achieved! Also... Fort Hill looks massive and really cool!! Someday I'd love to hit that. Anything is possible!! - Dan
@@char_rb7367 Yes, you are correct. Dan had to be in Arizona that week so he was streaming from a weak signal. But we make do with what we can right?! We will do our best to hammer out the glitches for the next time. Sage
I think it’s good having gap jumps. Don’t get me wrong having tables that are progressive so people can learn is a great thing but, having tables can sometimes invite people that don’t have the proper skill because it’s “low risk”. When it comes to some (not all) it’s good to have gaps because only the more experienced/skillful riders will have the confidence to jump them, same thing as a big drop feature.
Right on Nate, I can appreciate that point. I love a good gap and drop, but I agree, it's also important to have progressive lines like tables to help people work up to the gaped features. Thank you for the comment and feedback. Sage
Yo Nate! This is a really interesting perspective! I wonder if more people get hurt sending it on tabletops b/c they think it's safe... but it's still a jump which is inherently dangerous! Appreciate the comment! - Dan
Bike Park: Table Tops = less liability. More people can do more features = more revenue. A 20 foot jump is 20 feet, gap or no gap. My opinion - make a 20 foot table AND a 20 foot gap. Get confidence on the table and then go get stoked on the gap.
That is exactly how I feel as well. Have comparable tables and gaps so folks can practice on and progress too. Thank you for the comment and feedback. Sage
I think they should make a few larger lines with tabletops to build confidence riding but gap jumps are fun. I think many people are able to clear big gaps but won't ever progress there because most places don't have huge tables
Now day's alot of trail have been neutered of rock and roots etc because ppl don't want progression But there are a small portion of ppl like me and Ill admit I am 56 Years old and there is no better feeling then banging out a 30 to 50 foot gap jump. Or hitting a massive step up or step down and there should be more jumps and drops in trails are bikes now days are so much better. But if you don't want to hit a gap make an alt line with maybe a smaller table top and they can put wood in the gap. I mean we are not riding road but there are alot of ppl that want the trials to be like riding on the road. I am sorry but this is MTB'ing and it should be rough and challenging.
I totally agree Weasel, there needs to be more options for all levels, not features that are all level friendly. Challenges are something we can all aspire to get over and conquer. Thank you for the feedback and comment. Sage
Your approach makes perfect sense to me! The best trail systems have double black features with ride-arounds or even better, an easier but similar feature! And KUDOS to you for sending it at 56!!! We're in our upper 40's and I don't think we're slowing down either! Thank you for watching and for the thoughtful comment! - Dan
Yea man, both is ideal! It's just the concept... are gap jumps more fun? Ideally, we'll have BOTH types of jumps to play on. Thanks for commenting!! - Dan
I actually hate the big gap jumps because there’s no way to actually practice them without blatant disregard for my health 😂 I’ve already had a couple bad injuries that took a lot of time to recover from so my brain simply won’t let me do them anymore. My goal is to keep riding
As someone who has had their fair share of serious injuries I can totally respect that. Staying safe and riding within our means is always the best advice. Thank you for watching and commenting. Sage
@@z-pac5238 Very legit perspective! You're listening to your intuition and it's keeping you safe! If you want to start clearing gap jumps (or any progression)... you can try visualization (and a gratitude journal!). We talk about these things a lot in different episodes of the full podcast. It worked for Sage! He totally manifested jumping (more on that on the next episode tomorrow!). If you try it and it works... make sure you let us know! :) Thanks for listening and commenting. lot less material to build a gap jump

I personally think it’s great to allow more people to access the fun!
Right on James. I'm all for that as well, I would just like some more riskier options available too for those that want to test their skills. Sage
Hard to argue with that point!! More stoke!! But at the same time... features for everyone on the skill spectrum! Thanks for commenting! - Dan
