Vans employee here!!! In 2019 we actually had deconstructed models of the Duracap! It’s been around for quite awhile! The old cabs were not as stiff around the ankle and they even increased the tread depth by 6 mm for a longer lasting sole. So much went into the redesign and it shows. Thanks for reviewing vans! I have so many really underrated vans shoes I’d love for you guys to cut! You should hit me up for more details!!!
I had a pair of Cab 6s in college in 1999. Is that what that was named after- its thickness? Some of the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned and that includes new balance 991s. 👍🏼
Really enjoy these skate reviews. As a skater, I’m stoked that you guys are adding it in. I’ve watched other reviews and I really like how you cut it in half. Don’t see that too often. I would maybe suggest chatting with someone at a skate shop about features on the shoe before the video. They may have some good insights you might want to include. Anyways, keep it up! This is great
These have been my daily work shoes for about half a year and I haven't had any problems yet, it's nice to know that a heritage brand is still making a durable, functional product and continuously improving on it over time
if you are a skater on a tite budget, get these. i’ve see them last 2-3 times longer than more expensive skate shoes. the style, protection, skate-ability, and history make it the all time classic
@@Aminormaze My experience is the opposite. Last resorts always go through the suede faster than any Vans I've skated. The half cabs in particular are very long lasting skate shoes....
I always wanted a pair of Half Cabs, so I bought myself a pair some years back (I ordered them online), and I had to return them almost immediately. They could not take my big & wide feet, and I'm a size 13. Every time I see them out in the wild, I get so jealous. Love to see these videos from you guys! Please keep it up.
As a skater I'm a huge fan of this series guys! Definitely want to see more skate shoes on the channel. Some suggestions of shoes: - Gillette globe shoes - Warsaw chapter mids (Jamie Thomas's new shoe brand)
I like seeing Rose Anvil ads, the bets, coasters, and laces are my favorites. I bought the blue, red, yellow, and tan laces and they are great in person. First time was hard to put in my Jordan 1 highs, but then I used tweezers to push it through/widen the lace holes slightly, and it worked great.
Not hating, but I smiled a little when you said you didn't know what the duracap was on a pair of vans. Skaters who have ever owned a pair of vans with duracap know exactly what it is because they have skated their shoe down to that rubber layer underneath the suede.
The soles won't last long enough to expose that I don't waste money on skate shoes because the soles never last more than a few months this has always been a problem since the 90s with skate shoes
@@thisoldboy4111Yea vans have a bunch of terms that no one really knows what they mean unless you really look for it on forums or actually destroy the shoe.

Really glad the channel is starting to cover skate shoes. I can burn through a shoe in 1-2 weeks and this level of research and info is invaluable. Also glad you brought a skater in to help with the reviews. I would be interested in seeing you guys cover the Etnies Marana with the special Michelin tire rubber.
These skate reviews are amazing!!! I only wear skate shoes since I was a kid for everything. I still skate and need a shoes to work in and if I get a few minutes to skate in. Please keep these videos coming.
My fav set up is a pair of half cabs, full laced, with a double heel lock lacing through the top tongue tag. Honestly nuts how much heel support you can get out of half cabs with a little mod like lowering the heel height with fitted insoles. ive pretty much had a pair since i was 22, when it just works it works.
Cab was on the The Nine Club and clarified that Tony Hawk and Kevin Staab developed the “half cab” trick after he did the full, but they kept his name on it rather than changing it.
The way they make they half cab now is really a good shoe that should not be messed with further. They are as perfect as you could possibly make a shoe of this type. Comfort is out of this world snug, solid and soft as a cloud all while feeling like you are skating barefoot and the rubber on the sole is some kind of witchcraft rubber. I've never seen a sole wear so slow. ive had these shoes for two months skating in them at least an hour after work and sometimes a total of 10 to 15 hours on the weekend with NO noticeable wear on the sole. Anyway these are my first Vans and I will never wear anything else anymore.
Ngl I'm not a skater but I love driving manual and riding motorcycles in vans (sorry ATGATT guys). I used to keep a pair in all my WRX's, helped a lot with clutch control/feel when I first started driving and having the stiff heel and floppy toe box is great for the shift lever on bikes.
Love my half cabs. First they're used as slippers (brand new), then they become "going out" shoes, then after a bit of wear "daily drivers", when they get raggedy they become work shoes , finally when they're falling from my feet i cut them up to make "ollie patches" for the ones I skate in. 👍Thanks Vans
Picked up some caballero Half Cabs/ Vans at Ross for $35, and some black Half Cabs MTEs same price last month no BS this is where i hunt for vans, i have over 20 different pairs / styles

I grabbed a pair of the pop cush slip ons by accident and good lord it was a great accident to make. So much better than the standard Vans and honestly one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Really glad to know what all goes inside of them
i have some '92 skate halfcabs, they're all suede and the old panel layout. also seems to be thicker, higher quality suede. they were super stiff and uncomfortably tight in the forefoot, took forever to break them in. i've had them for maybe 1.5 years. they're more comfortable now, but i only wear them casually i don't skate in them. i'm sure they'd be nice, i just don't want to shred them yet.
Half Cabs are definitely not broken in right away. I’d say they’re actually on the dangerous side to skate out of the box. But once they are broken in I’d say they’re hands down the best shoe in skating under $100. I personally hate the feeling of your heel feeling like it’s prone to exiting your shoe. To bring up a shoe that remedied that. The Glode Chet 4. Anyone who has skated that shoe knows it’s as bulky as the D3’s.. in other words a work boot. In the late 90’s you had to wear the Etnies Vallely, Reynolds 1, Muska 901 if you wanted durability. Ultimately I’d say the Reynolds 2, Accel, Koston, Cannon’s reigned supreme for what the future would be for durable skate shoes and board feel in a cupsole. So to have a Vulc that keeps your heels in the shoe and offers the feeling those shoes did in the late 90’s early 00’s. But without the actual bulk. I’d say it blends past, present, and future perfectly and I hope other brands are paying attention. I know Adidas and NB are basically there, and as much as I love and have supported both companies. I’d love to see an actual skater owned company nail it. I think Etnies is right there with the Joslin’s. Maybe a Joslin mid that’s Half Cab height?
The pop cush insoles are amazing. From a skating perspective definitely, but I enjoyed skating them so much I bought additional ones for my other shoes.
I'll be buying a pair I barley skate anymore after a massive stack a few years back and the bones don't heal as fast as they used to but these will be a nice addition to my collection
Vans skate shoes are lowkey good for stability, flat feed, and wide. Also add for any light uphill mud trekking. I wore slip ons on muddy uphill and it never failed compared to others who were with me wearing chucks.
Love these shoes! Unfortunately I don't wear them or skate them much cause they don't quite fit my wide feet, however I can attest to their quality! Solid and comfortable for skateboarding or casual use.
…in addition not to forget! Supra SkyTop Chad Muska!! You should do Es. Personally that’s what I like to skate. They are not vulcanized but they have a thinner cupsole on the accelerometer slims. They also have a plastic cap on the flick side under the suede that keeps them From busting through. If you shoe goo the laces from the jump they last a while.
