these shoes feel so good to skate in. of course its painful when you mess up but it literally feels like any trick is possible. they nailed the balance of grip/stiffness/cushioning/boardfeel/flick for a super "minimalist" shoe. outdid vans at their own game
i just bought these, had to get half size up, very tight but with insoles they are incredible to skate in. for reference, im 28 and have been skating 25+ years, i had soooo many pairs of Janoskis of the years. this reboot is pretty on-point IMO from a quality perspective. Better materials than team-model New Balance 480s I was skating before these.
Never skated a day in my life. But this my favorite shoe of all time. It’s just the look and how you can wear them for every occasion. Customized them when they were on nike by you. Looking for these shoes is what made me a sneaker head. I have some “hyped” shoes but I always find myself in these still in 2025.
People forget that Stefan designed these shoes for HIS skating. They were meant for maximum board feel, flexibility, board control. Tech skaters like Shane O'Neil loved these and it took his skating to another level. I loved these shoes for board feel, and the zoom in the heel helped a lot. Just one day I tried to skate a 6 foot drop and blew out my ankle because I landed wrong. After that I realized these shoes aren't meant for maximum impact.
I love these skate shoe videos so much thank you for doing this. If i was gonna skate nike i would skate these. keen smart with the collab. that slap stick is so dope.
My first pair of Janoski - was amazing and wore it until it fell apart. My second pair was too narrow and tight and not comfortable at all. Same shoe different year
I have the prototype sample that Nike SB wanted to give Stefan. Coincidentally I met Stefan and gave him the shoe to sign and he was freaking out in fear at the sight of them. They repurposed the new outsole they made for that shoe into Omar Salazar’s nike shoe
Interesting video of a shoe I ordered multiple pairs of (after the hype died down in 2016). I don't skate so they last me for yeaars. I have a pair still holding up from 2017 and I wore them daily in highschool. I find them pretty comfy with a middle sized toe box, not too wide.
which is even more sad because i for sure got more uses out of my old skools than i did my janoskis. 90% the same feel too ngl. the zoom unit carried those shoes for nike
The original run of janoskis seemed to have multiple versions. The first run that came out on 09 were horribly narrow and uncomfortable, but the ones I was getting like 2014-2016 were the best shoes I ever skated, maybe tied with the original cons CTAS’s (I wish they’d bring those back)
was thinking about commenting when you guys were gonna do this shoe, and here we are lol (and since we are talking about it, maybe do a video on the ishod wair maxes)
That’s insane I just got done watching his documentary last night. I wonder if they’ll make a sequel to the show even though it’s perfect for the most part
These new OG+ versions are definitely thinner than the ones before, I had pair from 2014 sitting in my closet and the suede on the new ones are hilariously thin compared to the old. The foxing tape is thinner too, just feels like they took even more material out of a shoe that was already thin.
i gave my dad a couple pair of Janoskis and he loves them. He plays ping pong with them with his friends! He loves that they got lots of grip on them he said.
love the way mine skate ...I got the mid high chucka style in camo and the only thing i don't like in they are canvas and tearing up quickly ...suede would of been perfect and they offer a little ankle protection which is really nice
With the new ones coming out sometime soon, now would be a great time to chop up the Nike x Bode Astro Grabbers - I’m dying to know what kind of leather they used on the black pair
I dont even skate but these look great on feet and feel a bit better quality than a vans. Also I always wanted the digi floral when I was a kid so finally getting them as an adult was hype
I'd love to see a teardown of Andy Andersons Pro model from Etnies, his design philosophy is pretty interesting considering his background in freestyle skateboarding.
Love the Janoski's,, but the new release seems way tighter on my foot. I have around 40 pairs and search ebay daily,, I need to find the sashiko version
Would be dope if most shoe stores and or skate shops or really the shoe companies send a cut in half shoe for display to see what you are getting while browsing for new shoes, idk just a thought 🤷♂️
I’ve skated a pair of GT blazers and a pair of Janoskis and you are right the Janoskis have a lot more squish to them. I think it’s the softer rubber and the zoom air packet is definitely thicker than on my dunks.
You should review Andy Anderson's shoe. I'd like to see a review from a shoe quality perspective, whereas the reviews i see out there come purely from a skateboarding only perspective. And i trust your knowledge on shoes over everyone else's. 🤙
It was a great shoe but Nike just cheapened the materials they made it from with every release of it .. but thank god they finally took that black line off the outsole !
Disagree. The moment i saw them again, i bought them again. They're truly the greatest shoe. I feel confident saying that after skating nearly all major skate shoe brands in past 23 years. Kinda sucks it took a big corporate to make a perfect shoe but heck, what you gonna do.
The first Janoski are way higher quality than any of the subsequent releases. The OG had a real cork layered footbed and waxed round cotton laces, I highly doubt nike could afford that on footlocker released models just on margins alone. Those were both specific things Janoski wanted on his namesake shoe pro-model. Also nike made a bastard version almost identical style with the same vulc outsole of the Janoski without his name for stores like Nordstroms and Kohls to recoup the royalties they had to pay by creating the non-pro name sort of knock-off style for those accounts. Janoski usually only had leather laces on premium/colab releases, like the wingtip Janoski version but at least they did the OG cork footbed and 2nd laces for this new re-release. I think if you look around the janoski is a pretty easy pick up at second hand /thrift stores in good condition because they made so many of them
Man I always hated these shoes back in the day, partly because I was a little hipster skater and seeing all these people who didn't skate wearing them annoyed me. Plus they were so narrow I'd have to size up and end up with the floppiest toe-box ever and even then with a sized up shoe you'd get these cramps on the top of your foot because the laced section is so short.
It was definitely more popular with non skaters due to its aesthetic. People treated them like vans. I can wear most brands of skate shoes and Janoskis were the only ones that gave me toe pain and numbness without even skating.
Keen ramps on Rose Anvil? We're getting so close to a Dan Corrigan/Rose Anvil collab video where they cut in half a flight deck or something and I CAN FEEL IT IN MY LOINS.

bruh they are complaining about low sales, but the price is 95 dollars for a shoe that is basically a vans old skool
which is even more sad because i for sure got more uses out of my old skools than i did my janoskis. 90% the same feel too ngl. the zoom unit carried those shoes for nike

One of my favorite skaters..
Probably my favorite for style after the old Tom Penny parts
I loved my janoskis!

I absolutely loved these shoes back in the day.

So wrong. Will forever be the best casual skate shoe of all time. Can wear them with anything & always look good.
GoWipeYourMouf 😤

Casual Janoski foam shoe was pretty awesome and last me few years
They were genuinely the best skate shoes

Laceless version is one of my favorites of all time
I love me some Janoski slip-ons, they just feel right
Have you guys done the vans Rowan 2 or AVE 2?
here in brazil this pro shoe is so mainstream that 99% of people wearing it dont even know who janoski is
I was amazed to see it's made of suede and rubber! Precisely the same as every other skate shoe.
It would be cool if you reviewed an old pair to compare
Would anyone say that the Janoski are an entry option (or an alternative not so clown shoe looking) for a barefoot shoes newbie?
I have a 7 year Janoski, I love the shoe, sad that I cant buy then anymore
This is not my favorite skate shoe. It's my favorite shoe.
I remember when we used to skate at the bank when it closed because of the curbs. Now, they actually build public skate parks.❤😊
Also weird colorways
What kind of jeans is Samuel wearing @4:30?
Can we get some more vans reviews?
janoski is great. the koston 1s was good too
Video starts at 7:14

Kinda miss the Janoski Free with the heel visible air sole
12.7 oz is a light skating shoe?

Not a skater but I can appreciate these videos

sam's a g
Knife skills score : 7.1
Idk how people skate these. I caught one primo heelflip and I'll never skate these again
Leather laces are the only laces I break on a regular basis. Haha. They get so dried out and brittle. The worst.
I Just got a pair of janoskis ffs

J A N O S K I - not Jane-owski, not Jam-oski.

Yeah I am still taking Lakais all day long..
Lakais just went under my dude

Bought a ton of sizes of these, instep was so low and the toe box is crazy narrow. Terrible shoe.

@ I have trouble with most shoes that aren't super stretchy running shoes, but this was insane, was like wearing a dress shoe.
I dont think of nike when I want skate shoes... I think of DC.
