    Thanks for the video and information about Mcnamara, Scottman! Yeah, just flew back into DTW yesterday. I was excited to see that they are adding a Starbucks right at the bottom of the escalators after the TSA check. You can make it out at the 10:55 mark.

    My favorite part of DTW is the Express Tram which is so fast! Fun fact McNamera concorse A is the second longest airport terminal after Osaka Japan! Also DTW was a hub for Northwest Airlines before the merger with Delta! Hope you tried Leo's Coney Island near gate a47!

      @@fadedbones8151 I really like that too. I don't have many flights in Concourses B and C, so I usually don't get to see the tunnel very often.

    That fountain depicts metro airport. The shoots of water is flights inbound to Detroit. It is prone to malfunction. Too bad the online cafe at center of the terminal closed was a great place to get breakfast and go online before Wi-Fi was the norm. I still have a 20 percent off coupon for that place. There is or was a food court tucked away to the left as you come off the escalator it had a little ceasers a TCBY and burger king and Chinese restaurant. There. Wow chili's was moved to B that was where PF Chang's is now. I made NWA put in the showers are main world Club (skyclub). Where you ended the video there was more gates about 6 of them down a escalator there and a Fuddruckers there where that closed subway was always busy I loved the chili fries and the free condiment bar.. I attended the grand opening for the McNamara terminal met two airlines CEO'S and governor Engler. Gates C-1 to 6 are CRJ gates they used to be for the SAAB 340 B turboprop 34 passenger plane. DTW

      Thanks for all the information! It is really interesting to hear how much the McNamara has changed compared to when it first opened. There is a lot I don't remember from its early days when Northwest Airlines were still a thing.

      By the way that tunnel music isn't copyrighted it's fair use since its nor the actual song. There are if memory serves me right about 5 to 10 different tracks of music loops they play. Some still I have in my memory. Last time I was in DTW was 2008 so your video was awesome and very important. Can you next time see if that food court is still at the left of the escalator as you come down from the ticket counter. There were also stores from the big 3 automakers on the right in that central retail spot when it opened up too. Lufthansa had a club in McNamara too. It was built by the upper level by ticket counter post security. That far end of the tunnel by BC was prone to flooding and maintenance issues too. B was where continental flew out of as well later Delta moved there. Also a Irish bar and grill was where chili's is at. If you are a guest of the westin hotel you get to go thru TSA and enjoy a meal or shopping or just plane watch it's a arrangement they have. Just hope they don't still have CNN blaring on those TV's on the walls it made for some awkward phone calls from payphones.

      @scottman895  4 месяца назад

      @@xpluswearer I remember the tunnel used to play non-copyrighted music back then, but in recent years they are now playing Motown music. There is no longer a food court right after security. The main food courts are now at both ends of Concourse A.

    Do they still collect money in Istanbul before you go to immigration for a visa? Also I had to report that Istanbul airport to the FAA because they left doors open to secure areas of the airport. Freaky!

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  4 месяца назад

      I'm sure they probably do, but they have an e-visa now too which I used that to arrange that online in the matter of minutes (a fee is required) so I was able to go right up to immigration in Istanbul. They never asked to look at my e-visa which is interesting unless they have it in their records that an e-visa was issued to me.

    • @scottman895

      When I came back to the US a few weeks ago, DTW has the newer kiosks where the machine takes your picture and then you go straight to the immigration officer.

    I have 1 hour layerover is it enough there

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  7 месяцев назад

      It depends on your connecting flight. If you are flying in on Delta, Air France, or WestJet and your connecting flight is any one of those three airlines, an hour should just be enough since you do not have to go through security again. However, if you have to change terminals (McNamara to Evans) in the case your arriving flight is Delta and the connecting flight is United or American, then an hour will not be enough time since you'll have to take a shuttle to the other terminal and then go through security again.

    • @scottman895
      @scottman895  3 месяца назад +1

      @@divebomb99 Assuming that your originating flight going into Detroit is from the US (and there are no significant delays), a 1 hour layover should be enough time since you will not have to change terminals or go through security again.

      The McNamara Terminal still looks quite nice even though it's been around for over 20 years. It hasn't gone through any renovations though, so things always can be modernized further.
