Why I gave up supporting Liverpool in favour of non-league Marine FC - video

  • Three years ago Liverpool fan Dickie Felton followed a whim and went to see his local non-league side Marine FC. The passion he saw at the game eclipsed the passion he was used to on the famous Kop stand at Anfield, and led him to give up his season ticket at the Premier League side and start volunteering and getting involved at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier side instead

I used to pay 100€ for season ticket plus 120€ every year to watch FC Porto, the main club of my city, but the tourists, the glory hunters, the fake supporters from other cities from Portugal were ruining my experience through years. 2 years ago i gave up on Porto to support my local team that plays in 3rd division, and it feels so much better, i dont feel like im just watching a football match, i feel im doing my duty as i was raised on those streets. And everyone there is not just supporting a team but supporting that small town. Plus for just 2€ per match what makes way easier to go to away matches. Sorry for bad English.

Yep, I've also moved to non-league football, which I still consider football, unlike the circus the Premier and Championship have become (I still have my One Hotspur subscription, due to the waiting list for one being measured in years).
I've only been to our new Stadium just before it was finished, never having seen a game there, and having pledged never to attend another game in which VAR is present.
Aside from that, Premier League Corporations, are so far from being clubs, they have been totally sanitized, and now feel more like generic food Franchises than anything one can be passionate about. For me, VAR was just the final straw in the destruction of the beautiful game I grew up with. Long gone are the days of blood, sweat, and tears. Now we have to put up with overpaid primadonnas who are more than willing to change their "skin" for another hefty paycheck.
Non League Football is the sport I grew up with, and it is the greatest thing on earth,
    Cheers.

I came into this video expecting to dislike a lot of things he was going to say but, let’s be honest, he isn’t wrong.
I’ll always support my team (Reading) but I do get a lot of joy going to a lot of the local non league clubs, in and around Berkshire. Some of my favourite away days in recent memory, before Covid, was Bracknell and Didcot (the latter in which me and a friend had a few too many San Miguel’s and I fell down on the short walk to the station.....twice)
Always support your local when it’s possible to do it again, they need us all more than you’ll ever know.
As for price, I’ll say what I had at Bracknell a few seasons ago.
Bus to Reading station, £1.70, return train to Bracknell was £5.80, pub right outside the station and the stadium 5 minutes away, so spent about £7 in there. Match ticket, adult, £5!! And a couple drinks in the club house, which you can take to the sidelines and behind the goal, at £3 each. All of that came to around £25, which is what I’d pay to see Reading, before anything else is paid for.

Guarantee that Dickie Felton headed back at Liverpool once Klopp started winning. Who are we kidding?

Might not be able to afford go back. Why a lot of working class support who supported premier league clubs, have gone to none league to begin with because of cost. Let me give you example how ludicrous ticket prices have gone in the premier League over the last twenty odd years. I seen an old ticket stub Premier league match Arsenal V Man United 1994 it was £10 I put that in the inflation calculator for 2024 30 years down the line. In today's money that is £25. That how ridiculous prices have gone up over the last 30 Years!!!

it's not disloyalty. Many fans are disillusioned and cheated by their clubs. Getting charged a lot of money, then being told to sit down and shut up so they cant support the team. These premier league clubs are not run correctly anymore. That is why I boycott the Premier League and considering the Champions League and Championship. Is it fair being a championship club fan and paying £45 knowing you can see top football for less. Also we support our local club who care about us as we care about them.

Not a mistake, you can claim to be a Liverpool fan, if you don't go games it means absolutely nothing. This fella lost all connection with the riches of prem liverpool and supported his local non league team means more than anyone sitting at home being a Liverpool fan....
