    Panama is known as a transit country because of the Panama Canal. While the country is known for its famous canal, its natural attractions include birding, whitewater rafting, and snorkeling tours. You can never go wrong in visiting this beautiful country.

    Panama is one of the countries in Central America I almost thought about going to just because it isn't too long of a flight from the US. It's great that they are open again to everyone with all the safety precautions. I don't see me traveling out of the US until next year, but it is always great to see the option which you can!

    I was in Panama when it shut down because of Covid. I ended up staying way longer than intended but I had the TIME of my life. Learned a ton and was actually really happy that I couldn't leave ;) If you are heading to Panama the locals really appreciate it if you learn the language as much as possible. Lots of Panamanians speak English because THEY make the effort, so I really believe it's important for tourists to learn at least simple Spanish too.

    Assigned to Panama in the late 80s while in the U.S. Navy; married local girl. Now retired, we have a nice house in Santiago where we spend a few times a year. I can say this, my blood pressure drops to almost normal levels while I am there. Don't know why, but I feel great down there. Santiago is off the beaten path, and spouse is from La Colorada a small town about 10kms from Santiago.

      @TravelingwithKristin  3 года назад +1

      Hi Bailey! Oh, Bastimentos is nice! It’s hard to say if you should go or not as we can’t tell if anything would happen... however if you can get the test in time or test negative upon arrival and have time to wait for the results, it could be worth going if you take precautions while traveling. Of course, staying home is always the safest but many people are also traveling safely on a regular basis during the pandemic. Hope this helps! Follow your heart ❤️😉

    • @kimmyc89
      @kimmyc89 3 года назад +1

      @@bailey2913 Hi, I'm Panamanian and I've had many friends travel back and forth from their home countries within the last month. You can either attempt to get tested within 48 from your flight and reflecting a negative result (it's possible to achieve this, I've had friends come in from france and israel with this method) or you could pay for the test upon arrival at the airport, but commit and submit to quarantine for 48 hours or until you receive the results to your test. In the case that you are caught breaching the quarantine, you will be fined from $50 to $1,000 (it varies depending on the degree of violation to the confinement terms.) SO, if you're not willing to wait for your test results while you're in Panama, you should attempt to take the test before arriving :)

      @bailey2913 3 года назад

      @@kimmyc89 thanks for the advice Kim, I wasn’t aware I would have to wait that long for my results, that’s changed my ideas on getting the test on arrival. Would you recommend getting a connecting flight to Bocas, or do you think it’s ok by road?

    • @kimmyc89
      @kimmyc89 3 года назад +1

      @@bailey2913 wow I don't even know about the possibility of flying in to Bocas honestly, we are divided into provinces and Bocas del Toro is unfortunately one of the provinces that they still have under strict lock down with like a 7 pm curfew in most of the province and no roaming around on the weekends (friday to sunday) so you'd essentially have monday to thursday from 5 am to 7 pm to do whatever you'd like to do... there are some regions that are an exception, but I am unsure of where you are headed to. I'd recommend flying directly to the main airport (tocumen) instead and then see where to? Panama is pretty small, but we also have SOME mobility restrictions from province to province, there are some beaches that are closer to the city about 2 hours or less (depending on where you'd like to go) that are open to the public now versus a month ago where you couldn't even travel to the beach. If you have any other questions let me know!

    I have a trip booked to Panama City from JFK on November 15th. That 48 hour window for a PCR test is a BIG concern. Also, I really hate wearing a mask and can't even imagine wearing one outdoors. I'm so tired of this Covid nonsense and it has me NOT looking forward to my trip. Perhaps with a little luck, the airlines will cancel my flight. I should be excited but I'm not.

      Hi Joseph, here is the current info I found from the US Embassy in Panama:
      Beginning Saturday, October 17, the province of Chiriqui and the district of Changuinola in Bocas del Toro will no longer have Saturday quarantine.
      Curfews will remain unchanged in the rest of Panama.  Monday through Friday the curfew starts at 11:00 p.m and is lifted at 5:00 a.m., with quarantine from Saturday at 11:00 p.m. until Monday at 5:00 a.m.
      The provinces of Chiriqui and Colon and the districts of Chiriqui Grande, Isla Colon, Changuinola and Almirante in Bocas del Toro have curfew from Monday through Friday, 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., with quarantine from Saturday at 7:00 p.m. until Monday at 5:00 a.m.
      In the rest of Bocas del Toro the curfew remains from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with a weekend quarantine from Friday at 7:00 p.m. until Monday at 5:00 a.m.

      Good question! I actually had to look that up. Here is a resource for different types of goods - looks like coffee is unlimited but you have to declare it www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/resources/traveler/intl-travel/coffee-tea-honey-nuts-spices/coffee-tea-honey-nuts-spices Also, on the immigration form it will ask what the value of the goods is that you're bringing in and you may have to pay import taxes on it. Always declare any food items as a general rule, too. More info on bringing stuff into the US: help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-3619?language=en_US

Not to mention a beautiful cowboy country region called "El Interior" which is provinces of Los Santos, Herrera, Chiriqui Veraguas and Cocle. Offering exotic beaches and fauna nearby and one of the most sweetest most humble people you will meet! 🇵🇦🇵🇦 Many people still don't know about Panama and it's a much safer destination than other nearby countries.
