I have lived in Panama City for a year now , here are my quick pros and cons: PROS. 1. Affordable living on Social Security benefits; 2. No snow, cold weather or hurricanes; 3. Acceptance of US currency. 4. Natives very proud, welcoming and nice to foreigners. CONS. 1. Way too much rain, not just April to November as promoted; 2. Locals seem to trash their own country; 3. English-only will not work here; 4. Crazy rude traffic, no street signs, potholes in sidewalks, pedestrians do not have right of way; 5. Sticker shock for electric bills if you like to run your AC all day in a hot, humid climate; 6. Ex-pats who love to drink and complain, doing both to excess IMO. For me on balance, a net positive experience.
Yup, sounds like pretty much what we saw when we were there. Great home for the right person.
Scared to travel here😢
@@meserettsegaye4521 Ohh, don't mind us. It's definitely worth a trip to explore the area.
@@meserettsegaye4521 I have seen many post on facebook expats groups posting for example: like a tiny spider in the house they rented in panama, and also a tons of gringo comments like: A reason to not travel there! I mean; a small country with a lot of biodiversity, nature, forrest etc, does it mean somthing to you? yeah means bugs, birds, snakes, mammals etc. So I do not understand (most usa citizens, european people are so lovely) complaining for almost about everything in panama and panamaniams notice that so be friendly and polite if you come here.
@@meserettsegaye4521
What specifically makes you scared to travel there?
Thanks for the transparency; there are a lot of channels who only share the good news. This is valuable information, especially for those thinking of moving to Panama. Great stuff, guys!
Thanks we try to do it in a fun way but information is king and it's important for us to be honest. -Blessings Sandra!
Thanks for speaking truth. Old Saying: The truth will set you free.
And that's the problem. A lot of channels only stick to telling and EXAGGERATING the good of an area. Especially these channels on Merida/Mexico.
I think it's unethical to hide the negatives- you are aware of- of an area- or exaggerate the positives.
A lot of those channels appear to do so because it's simply a business for them and the are only focused on getting you to Merida.
My husband and I visited Panama in 2015. It was naturally beautiful, significant heat and humidity. Saw the good looking buildings and the poor apartments. I didn’t notice a trash problem. They need to get that fixed. I did enjoy seeing the locks and learning about how many different countries participated in digging those canals.
Love the skyscrapers, the big city vibes and the canal but that garbage ruined alot of my moods...
I just left Panama a few weeks ago and the trash problem is very real. While it did not affect my trip directly, it did cause me some concern about possibly moving there. I hope that they get the garbage situation under control.
@@Gohardchick just 100% confirmed for me that Mexico is a better choice :)
@@kylegrant9980 Sad...
Hey, that trash all over the streets reminds me of living here in SF Bay Area. You should see how bad it gets under all the overpasses and all over the streets everywhere. I've lived here all my life and it's only been like this for the past 5 years or so. I think it's all part of the UN 4g3nda +w3n+y 0n3 & +h!r+y. People need to fight back wherever they are!
Love watching you guys. Always fun to see where you’re roaming and you always give honest information. You’re both looking well. Safe travels.
We appreciate your support. Thanks for tuning in!
I SPENT A WEEK IN PANAMA CITY. I'VE NEVER BEEN TO A MORE UNFRIENDLY PLACE ON THE PLANET. PEOPLE WERE VERY RUDE AND NOT VERY HOSPITABLE. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED, I EXPECTED BETTER. I LOOK LIKE THEM, AND SPEAK SPANISH FLUENTLY. ( I LIVED IN SPAIN ) THIS WAS THE CAPITAL NOT SOME RURAL AREA WHERE THEY DON'T SEE MANY FOREIGNERS. SHOUT OUT TO THOSE I MET THAT WERE VERY NICE TO ME AND WHOM I BONDED WITH. ITS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY, TOO BAD I CAN'T SAY THE SAME ABOUT THE LOCALS.
People in the service industries here are notorious for poor treatment of their customers. Foreigners will also get raw deals on taxi fares. However, the normal everyday people you meet in Panama City are generally very nice IMO.
Hmm... Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about your experiences!
Hello everybody ! I'm proud to be from Panama. As all of you already know, Panama is a small country. Do to its size, you could point out all the flaws, don't forget, all countries big or small has their problems . Is a country that took over 20 years to look this good . Yes , Panama has a garbage problem in some areas like some areas in big cities all over the world. We are proud of our schools and universities. Education is very important for us in Panama. Our government is another topic . And Yes! With money you can solved lots of economic problems that countries like my have . We trying make it a paradise not only for tourists , but for us as well . Our people deserve better things. Thank you for visiting 😊
Panama is wonderful...small, beautiful and full of great people!
Really? You are proud of the educational institutions here in Panama? I call total bullshit!! The rich keep everyone else as uneducated as possible so they can continue to steal as much money from the ignorant as possible. I live here and these are Facts. Pretend all you want. Total corruption at every level
Yo tambien soy de origen panamena . . . no me gusto lo que dijeron sobre la comida panamena porque no es verdad. Ellos tenian razon sobre la mayoria de los otros asuntos que toquaron.
Thank you for this. I am a little confused why places in Mexico are supported but they decided to make a critical review of Panama. I have yet to see a critical review of Mexico and the major issues they have there.
I am German and have a E-Cedula (ID-Card) in Panama for 3 years now. I have been traveling a lot in Latin America (and Asia) and next year I am planing to buy a Apartment in a quite area in Panama City or close by. After all, there are a lot of interesting places in Latin America but I am proud of my Panamanian Cedula and I feel home everytime I come back here. Now I am going to life here! Gracias Panama
I find your videos so refreshing and honest! Blessings on growing your channel and showing the rest of us the world through The Yarbros eyes!
Thank you, we really appreciate the blessing!
So, so cool. I am a 68 year old man who retired at age 49 and have travelled all over the world many times over 61 countries (many over five six times/lived a year in Japan) and I LOVE seeing Americans of color (like me Hispanic) doing the deal. I am doing the Inca trail in two days and had a layover in Panama on way back home, just modified flights to stay four nights in Panama: I am stoked now after seeing your video....keep up the good work!

Man I just found this channel and I already love it. Y'all do a great job of keeping things fun and positive and family friendly. I'm really excited to see the different countries you visit and which one you like the most
Love that you found us and we hope you enjoy the ride! Have a wonderful and safe evening!
Wow, I remember first subscribing to your channel when my wife, kids and I first moved to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico a while back. It was funny watching the both of you two struggle to make that hike up the mountain.
Nevertheless, we loved your honest perspective about Monterrey which was helpful, and made it easier for our family to adjust to our new environment. Unfortunately, we were unsubscribed from your channel which seemed to have happened to a lot of RUclips content creators a while back so it is safe to say that we have glad to have stumbled unto your channel again.
The funny thing is, here we are again a complete of years later getting your perspectives again since we are planning to relocate to Coronado, Panama near the end of this year.
Again thanks for adding value and safe travels.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! It's truly heartwarming to hear that our videos made an impact during your transition to Monterrey. It's funny how life brings us full circle sometimes, isn't it? We were really struggling with that hike lol. We're thrilled to have you back with us and to hear of your upcoming move to Coronado, Panama. Safe travels to you and your family!
@@TheYarbros Thanks for your response my brother and sister, it brings me so much joy as a Black man to see my people traveling the world and leaving the matrix.
However, it is also depressing to know that many of our people aren't able to do what we do. due to the lack of finances and planning. Hopefully, with experienced content creators like you guys, they will gain the courage to travel abroad. Stay well.
Just found your channel. It’s really well done, good content and very positive! I subscribed and going through your previous videos👍🏾
You started the video saying DONT COME TO PANAMA, so most people will instantly get a bad idea about panama if they decide they heard all they needed to hear. Your cons are humidity, covid restrictions, and littering or trash in certain areas. I think you can make that argument about a lot of Central American or South American countries. Plus you make a video about panama and you end up in Colombia. It seems like you weren’t fair and balance on your opinion. Lastly, you said transportation is done by buses, and you failed to mention they have a METRO system that is operational since 2013.
Our opening was tongue in cheek letting the viewers know we will not hesitate to say it exactly how we see it in this video....and the complete statement was don't come to Panama without hearing this first.
Humidity and garbage is not a good combination and it is on a whole different level in Panama City. We have been through Central America and it is the worst that we have ever seen. There is no comparison.
Covid restrictions was not a con the governments response was the con. Their ability to do what they want to the people when they wanted to was my point even to the extent of jailing people. Today covid is the excuse what will it be tomorrow... Panama has a history and people should take all of that into account if they are planning on moving there...I do.
The metro is only available in the city we were speaking of moving throughout the country. The domestic transportation system between cities is underdeveloped. Inner city transportation is cheap and excellent we talk about that in our next video and we rode it in the previous video as well.
Lastly, we went to Colombia and came back to Panama at the end of the video. We still have more we are covering there.
This is a fair and balanced critic of the country through our eyes. We have done 4 videos praising the country we want to make sure that our viewers see what we see in all honesty. Thanks for chiming in and voicing your opinion. We appreciate your perspective.
@@TheYarbros thanks for your reply. I appreciate you taking time out to respond. I just think there shouldn’t be a zero sum game. Each country has It’s own strengths and weaknesses. Mentioning a few cons might deter some people from ever experiencing all the great things panama has to offer. We all know how hard it is to form a good opinion vs how easy it is to form a bad opinion. Props to you for traveling all over, you give me energy to want to travel more. I just hope some people won’t cross panama off their travel list because it’s a great country with friendly people.

@@panamapalace1 have you looked at their other videos? On other countries? They were very thorough on the states they visited in MX and I'm seeing fairness in their coverage of Panama. Remember this is their opinion, we have to have boots on the ground to give our experience

Traveling by bus in Panama is safest than the rest of CA. A few years ago, I received the visit of a friend of mine from Honduras, and took her to a bus travel and at the beginning she was so scared because in her country she could not do it without been in danger.
Ohh, we felt safe but boy were we missing those Mexico busses!

I was 20 when I visited many cities , and fell in love 💕 with Acapulco. I am 79 and living in Querétaro,Mexico. Earthquakes were the deal breakers for Acapulco. USA is too deadly and expensive.
Get ready to stand long line, when the bank runs start here. ATMs empty, and cash at the store etc.
Just move.
I moved to Mexico at 79, because USA is too expensive and deadly.
We haven't lived in The States since 2017. We're traveling the world looking for a place to call home. Querétaro is nice. I like the city not city center so much...like most though. Have a great day!
Hi guys, just a brief comment on the way the government works here. First a disclaimer, corruption exists, local business dynasties are a thing, and the measures taken under the state of emergency during the pandemic were of the strictest in the world. That being said, it was war, this measures ensured a partial control of the epidemic during the worst times, and I can prudently say that the population accepted them because of the evidenced sanitary results. Were this measures popular? Of course not, since they produced an economic caos and unemployment. However, preventing the loss of lives because of covid was the objective, and to this end were successful. Now most of the population has been vaccinated for free, the fourth round of vaccination is on course, the current death toll is minimum, and the last restrictions (indoor mask using) are about to be eliminated. Now, I think is not wise to compare the times of Noriega, that was a narco-dictator, with the las t30 years of democratic life we have enjoyed as a country. Panama is constitutionally a centralist presidencial system, because historically, descentralized federal governments left a legacy of civil wars during the Colombian Era, so centralism has been the norm since the country’s creation in 1903. This implies that a great amount of power is exerted by the executive, however no to the degree of having tyrannical powers under normal circumstances because the National Assembly has a huge influence on the country’s operation as well, serving as a counterweight to the executive. In this line, our government is very far from being perfect, but it is comprised of several parties, and democratically elected every 5 years, with a high participation rate of over 70% of the voter population. This is not a pro-government post, just my take on that we shouldn’t compare the worst time in our history with the current reality, because it is a fallacy. Cheers guys, take care.
Thank you for the brief and the information. I love to hear from the countrymen as my 1st take analysis is only surface level and only based on what we saw and experienced in our limited time there. Thanks again.
The US is just as bad if not worse. Terrible management of the pandemic and huge loss of life. Still losing everyday. When Panama government was at its worst, the US was a willing participant in the drug scene and corruption. The disparity between the US richest and poorest is embarrassing. US turns away and mistreat immigrants/refugees of color, but welcome white immigrants/refugees. US finds 1 billion $$$ every 3 weeks for the Ukraine, but not for US education or healthcare. The education and healthcare system is awful particularly for non white citizens. There is an all out war on minorities by the US authoritarian local and national governments. Prices of EVERYTHING are astronomical. The regular guy can barely afford groceries. Meanwhile, food and other goods are rotting on the docks of the US because they say there are no workers to unload the containers and there is a major truck driver shortage to bring the goods to distribution centers. Estimate is that they need 75,000 more truck drivers to make it happen. The US as the greatest country is a LIE.

Great video! I'm considering Panama for retirement, and this was very useful. Quick note "tinto" is used for black coffee in a good chunk of South America. It means "dark." It's also used for red wine. You don't ask for vino rojo. You ask for vino tinto. ;)
Ok, thanks for watching.

Aye 🖐🏾 don't let us turn you around....just keeping it honest through our eyes. It has its good points. Thanks for keeping up w/ us!
I am from Panama and I can tell you from the get go that this video has too little information from our country, there are more places and food to taste and explore, I was really sad when they said there wasn't much to say about our food that really sunk my heart. You should try coming first and having your own experience, Panama has a lot to offer and see, if you come with limited budget, your experience will be also limited, just plan yourself accordingly and you will have more to see and taste. 🙂👍
I really hope you will be visiting quito, I lived there 40 years ago and would like to see it again through your eyes!

Looking fwd to bringing it to you! Glad you liked this one. Enjoy Gdl!
I have been fortunate to travel worldwide for the last 30 yrs. I feel lucky to have visited so many places. I just did Panama and Panama City for the first time last month. It is a place I have no desire to go back to again. Glad I stayed in the Casco Viejo area. It is one of three "pockets" of wealth, which means clean streets and a feeling of security. Main things to consider is heat/humidity year round, wealth vs poor pockets, police presence, food choices, limited choices to visit/things to do within the small amount of wealth pockets, transportatiion/need for taxis.
It is still so nice that Panama is gaining so much wealth and it will slowly work its way through the outskirts. The people of Panama are friendly to the core. I think long term it will stay on par with Costa Rica and Belize as the three go to places in Central America.
Its definitely and acquired taste. Thanks for sharing your views. Traveling is our joy as well.

Im Panamanian and the video has a lot of good info. Panama has been pumped by international magazines and developers for too long in the media but the fact is that it's more expensive than a lot of places in the US. The government was and is pretty much a dictatorship especially during covid. Mexico is way better.

About the weather, yes it's hot in most of Panama, but like Mexico, Ecuador and any other country, you go to higher elevations and it's cooler. Boquete is popular for expats because the temps there are mid 60's to 70's. Same for Cerra Punta, which is even cooler than that.
I have a friend from Panama and he says No no no to moving to Panama
On that same note, we met several people who were very happy living there as expats. Different strokes for different folks.

Thank you sooooo much for such a great video. I don't know about your personal backstory as to why you are there and traveling about but it looks like you two are explorers lol. I am just looking for a closer place to USA to do some wintering in with awesome tennis accommodations. I am having trouble finding tennis communities that meet my needs like the tennis and beaching (and costs of Thailand) has. I love Phuket and 3-4 retreats to Bangkok, Tennis is prevalent and affordable. My AirBnb in Phuket was $27/night and close to a beach and tennis. That's all I need, but the flight is starting to get to me. I was hoping to find what Thailand offers in Central America. I haven't had any luck but I loved this video. Thanks for bringing up the garbage issue. It has become a big problem, I understand that goverment has Isues with truck parts for repairing and maintenance, however enough time has passed to find solutions. City is not looking good these days 😕
I LOVE the city but yeah that garbage has to go!
I'm Panamanian and the trash problem have always been a problem because of the corruption or corrupted politics etc and that's goes on and on. But if you tell me that USA is better well at least in Panamá you don't se kids shooting down black people like a call of duty game etc etc. But back what I was talking about. Yep if you are not use to the heat there's other places you can go that the weather is much softer and relaxing. Bro the trash problem is so sad I know, the president don't even have a place for trash that people can actually go and sort out the garbage. Like they do in Europe... I don't like corruption i think no body do only those who gets benefits from it. Have a nice day 😊

Probably go on a jacket, a backpack or a peice of luggage 🤷🏽♂️
Good Blondie cover April! Did you really have to get on a plane for buenelos (?). Are they not available in Panama? Thanks for the pros and cons video.
These treats are hard to find. Good ones are even harder to come by. Thanks for stopping by!
So after yesterday’s live, I’m rethinking my Blaxit. I’m retired but social security does not pay for raising children so I am not one of those rich Americans who can move anywhere. Y’all got me considering Colombia for the first time. But I fell in love with PV in CR years ago. I love the community feel and the Blackity Blackness. If y’all find a place like that that has excellent healthcare please make a video???? Much love to y’all. -- oh and a place with some flat water kayaking is icing on the chocolate cake!!💜
Thanks again for coming last night. We'll keep an eye out for retirement locations with access to flat water kayaking. Loved PV as well!
Nice video , thanks !
Thanks for watching!
Thank you guys. Considering a real relocation and doing some research. Man I laughed so hard when you said "it is a pure tax haven". With that fall back. Hilarious. Much Love and thanks.
♥️ your honesty 👌😍 keep on traveling, best wish ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you x2 😄
I’m a Panamanian don’t go if you don’t want to but please don’t mislead
Well done, guys. I liked this video 👍
I wish you have safe and nice trips around South America too.
Thanks! 😃
Blessings, saludos! Trash situation its the way you see it recently mostly in Panama city due to Pandemic, they are taking way longer to pick up the trash. It gets worse also depending on the government... its sad! But I've seen many cities in the US with this issue as well. I've been living in the US for 23 years now. Also the last decades there has such a huge migration of Colombians and Venezuelans, the culture is changing so much, Panama is now more like the cental American culture or South America. I miss the old Panama. Also Panama has a very reliable Uber system and we have a metro train as well besides taxis and buses. Quick side note, will be nice to edit the title makes it very negative.
Between Mexico and Central America which is your favourite city? I'm planning a 10 week trip and haven't decided where I'm going yet. Can't make up my mind. lol
That's a huge question....time of year, the things you like to do...For me Rondel my top 5 w/o too much consideration and noy in order are:
Guadalajara, MX
Morelia, MX
Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
Cartagena, Colombia
@@TheYarbros @The Yarbros Thanks for the list. It's a big help. Maybe I'll visit all 5. Appreciate it. Best,
Guadalajara I love it!!!! Culture!!!
Just came back from staying in Panama City, looooved it! Stayed near Plaza Democracia. Going back again the end of this month!! 🇵🇦😁
Glad to hear it!
1) Muggy weather, wet season
2) Gov can be a little on the authoritative side
3) Trash is apparent outside touristy areas
4) Diversity of people, from all places
5) Panama City is a world class city
6) Most developed country in CA
7) Tax haven
8) Disparity of income
9) Excellent food diverisity, but not amazing
10) Tavel within Panama is not organized, but it's cheap
Lol love the song break Apryl. That heat will find you 😆
😅😂
I saw a brief what govt was like bc I some ppl I know were caught in quarantine camps for not being sick… big NO for me
I think I rather spend my time exploring other countries
Thank you for the video - always appreciate your perspective 🙏💗
Enjoy South America 🥳
Yeah, I have to dau that was a disappointment for me....the way it appears that government is run and its priorities. Thanks for keeping up w/ us 🙂
A family
I think Americans forget that when the CDC stated America was experiencing a pandemic, America shut down. Businesses were closed as were churches, parks, and schools. Curfews were mandated and small business owners of restaurants, hair salons and pastors were seen on TV being arrested for operating businesses when they were supposed to be closed. Our local politicians and police in California, New York and DC/MD/Virginia behaved very authoritarian. Signs read on a Wholefood store:If you have not been vaccinated we reserve the right to turn you away." It felt as if I were living under a dictatorship
And in Australia citizens were placed in quarantine camps if they were around a family member with Covid.Covid camps were a reality in Australia. So not only Panama government took extreme measures concerning the pandemic.
Ya'll are awesome, love the energy. I'm sold on Panama😁
It's the perfect spot for lots of our friends!
I plan to visit Panama City for a vacation. Are you saying I should stay away from Panama City?
No by all means enjoy. I enjoyed the city very much. Its a bonified city!
@@TheYarbros Thanks!!!
As a Panamanian the pandemic was really hard you had to go out on woman days and man days you you could go out when the e for example was aloud to go e represent the first letter of you passport it doesn’t necessarily have to be e tho
Lol that's "science"!!! .What a joke your govt is. Even worse than the corrupt scum
politicians in the UK. Not many free countries left, Panama definitely not free!
As panamanian I agree that the title is not fair enough to express your content 🤨
I understand but the cover clearly says pros and cons it is tongue and cheek but you are welcome to feel however you feel about it. Thank you for watching and letting us know how you feel.
Hi..I liked the info in this video..I think you are both charismatic and from what I can tell, you both enjoyed your trip and are enthusiastic to share your experience and impressions..I would offer the following suggestions: I would prefer you retitle this video from 'STOP! Don't Go To Panama!' because that suggests to me that Panama isn't worth visiting. I would title it Don't travel to Panama until watch this video' or something similar. I say that because in the intro of your video, you clarify that you aren't saying don't come to Panama at all, but to be aware and informed of the content of your video. Also, I would suggest (IMHO) in the beginning of your video, you summarize in bullet points the key enumerated points by subject matter (e.g., diversity and trash) that you cover in your video. It would make it easier for those perusing through videos to know how to watch those that are relevant to her/his/their interests. I have given you a 'thumbs up" and have subscribed nonetheless and hope you consider my suggestions.
Hi guys! I need ur help. I saw one of your videos where u rented an airbnb in Panama but I can't find the video. Can u please give me the information for that place?
Which city?
Panama city
Absolutely enjoy you both. Very informative and enjoyable content with each video. No matter what stay positive and connected as a unit. BTW, you all are soooo close to the Caribbean Islands...🙂 (hint, hint).
We're always eying those islands...waiting for it to add up in the budget and for the channel! We'll get there.
I love Panama. No place is perfect.
I agree there is no such thing as perfect. Perfect for now or for a certain situation but never universally. Enjoy Panama!
I want to move there alone ! I’m nervous but o think I’m ready to make the move .
Do you need visa to visit Panamá or is visa free for Americans.
Hello, I love your channel, they sell the Buñuelos in Panama City to, by Parque Porras they have a Colombian restaurant , you didn’t have to go that far.
Lol, we didn't mind its one if our favorite places to eat them! Best recipe ever! Thank you though we didn't know they sold them in Panama
Damn, that snack even had its own music! 🤣
You are so funny 😂😅❤ Thanks so much!!!
FIY, most Latin Americans countries have an authoritarian government or behavior, by studying the history of the region you will have a better understanding of this phenomenon. Also learning the culture will definitely help, and it can take years for some, while others might learn the culture and mindset quicker. Each country is unique even though the language is the same with some slight variations. Look at the way the locals dress, and their appearance will give lots of clues, sometimes foreigners will stick out like a sore thumb because of their attire or appearance, I’ve known foreigners that adapt very well and others don’t. Be observant, and always remember : the foreigner must adapt to their culture in order to live happily in a foreign country. I’m from Latin America myself, and I say this based on what I’ve seen, as I have met and welcomed quite a few foreigners in my own country. Good video.
I have and continue to study the history and culture of the places we visit. Which is why I advised our subscribers to pay close attention to government and their polices before applying for residency. I love the people and find to history fascinating but the way a country is governed means a lot to me.
Looking forward to Ecuador 😊. And Medellin, Columbia is u r going there!
Yes, love Medellin and can't wait to explore Ecuador! Thanks for keeping up w/ us!
Freedom loving, and pureblood, Canadian here. I was set on retiring in Panama. I was aware they love their masks, but the rest......
Thanks so much for the info!
Thanks for watching!
Think twice
Another corrupt country with psychopathic rulers it seems. Even Brazil is taken now by the globalist scum. Few countries left to escape to unless you are rich.maybe Belize, Mexico,
Great stuff you guys, this was my first time here and I REFUSE to go away...I'll be back 🤖
lol
Great video guys, I hope I run into you two somewhere in Latin America
That would be nice...love running into our people! Stay safe and see you around!
Such a shame you didnt get to Boquete........enjpy Colombia!
Yeah, it was a bit far out.
As a born and raise 🇵🇦the best food you get it is prepared by a true panamenian. If a Colombian Venezuelan etc is there preparing it you will never get the original flavor.
