This week is a special episode, as we get to tour Kelly Latimer’s shophouse home in Joo Chiat that has been perfectly designed to fit the needs of her family.
All the walls inside the home has been gutted out, and the result is an open and expansive living and dining area. The traditional TV console has been done away with, and in its place, a concrete bench to allow people to sit and converse freely (plus the ever popular Samsung Frame TV).
She likes to cook and entertain, so the kitchen was designed specifically for her. From the height of the console, to the accessibility of the spice racks and cabinets. She also made storage spaces for her kitchen equipment so as to be able to hide them away neatly when not in use, but yet be able to access them easily.
The dining area is equally open, and made unique by the special Mother and Daughter windows, which is a great way to frame the space, and is a cool, quirky touch (her son wasn’t born at that point!). Even the hanging lamp above the dining space is different, as it’s made out of recycled felt that is designed to absorb the sounds around in order to have a clearer conversation at the dinner table.
The space has been specially separated into two, one named the public space, and the other as a private living space for the family.
The kid’s bedroom is tucked away at the back so that they can entertain friends and family in peace without disturbing their children’s sleep. The room is extremely customisable, it can be opened up as well as split into two with a divider when the kid’s want some privacy.
The master bedroom features a red-brick feature wall, and tons of storage. But the coolest part has to be the smart glass installed. With a clap of the hands, it reveals to see the front of the house, where she can keep tabs on her children, as well as the front door.

I like how eclectic and cozy this house is. The small details like retaining some piece of the original element of the house makes it more nostalgic and homey. The choice of floor tiles is spot on and the white tone and open plan makes the space spacious and efficient circulation. It is smart not to choose too much decorative elements considering that the house is in a neighborhood with lots of intricate details. Also, the hallway in between the exterior and the interior wall is a good choice since the hot air will not penetrate easily in the space knowing that Singapore is a tropical climate. The space toward the bedroom reminds me of Japandi style. Overall, this is cool house with so much personality

Love the vibe and the baby 😂❤️ My favorite place is the dining room that overlooks the garden. The space is functional for the host - she sounds like she entertains guests very often. I'd probably choose a less open space design for my own place in the future since I'm such an introvert 🫢

Kelly is a lovely animated host and I appreciate the amount of effort that has been put into creating this home; but when I watch this house tour, something about it gives me mild anxiety

Nothing about the house is cozy or warmth at all,it's weird,too big,there's too much empty space everywhere,the rooms don't feel like rooms,it's a goddam shophouse FFS.
IV seen $5000 tiny houses that looks incredibly gorgeous and warm and cozy and whoever did it had an amazing sense of colour and aesthetics without it being overwhelming.I might have the RUclips video saved somewhere from years ago.
This house probably cost upwards of 5 to 10 million dollars yet....

Very challenging plot. Definitely a great place for children to run about. Would be nice to have some windows for the rooms though but again how are you going to deal with the loss of privacy. I guess this design was finally decided to allows maximum light to brighten up the whole house.
