- Old Grundig tube radios often end up with a slipping tuner drive mechanism, especially on the FM selection. Here's a quick and easy fix that is non invasive.
Brilliant demo. Thank you very much 😊
That's for this. Just drove 3hrs round trip to pickup a Grinding 4070U... My first Grundig and tube radio. FM tunes but none of the other bands. Band selection switches work fine.
Thank you a lot. Danke schön!
Brilliant .!! I was searching for how to rethread the dial and came across this.
Good one Derek. Danke.
Nicely done!!
Thank you for posting this. I’m not clear on what size circle of sandpaper you need?? Can you give us the size?
It looks really simple. Is it difficult getting the back off the radio?
Hi, I turned on my old Grundig stereo recently, and I'm having periodic issues tuning in radio stations. The FM dial's working, but not the AM. But, the main thing is not being able to tune in any station. When I first turned it on, it worked fairly well, but, today, I'm not able to get anything. Does it need to warm up first? Also, at some point, I'd like to get the turntable to work, but that will be for another comment. Do you having any tuning suggestions? Also, the speaker's are pretty scratchy when trying to tune in a station. Is that normal? Eventually, that went away when a station came on.
You very likely need to do what's described in the video. The friction plates become worn out with age and the sandpaper restores the friction so that the dial can turn. The dial pointer and the tuning condenser all work off of the same system. Probably you need to do both sides of the plates. It's difficult to describe here but hopefully the vide provides enough clarity. The "Scratchy" sound should be normal when tuned off-station.
Good luck and be careful around those high voltages (260 Volts!!)
@@DerekHerbst747 Hi Derek. Thanks for your reply. I'll look into those suggestions. Do you have any tips on how to improve reception?
@@robertacevedo3502 If reception is poor only on FM, you can try replacing the ECC85 tube. If FM and AM reception is poor you can try replacing the EF89 or EF 86 (Depending on the radio). Basically a tube swop is the first thing to try. However if the old paper capacitors have not been replaced, this can cause a lot of problems.
@@DerekHerbst747 Just an FYI, for some reason when I moved the dial for the turntable speed away from the speed settings, my reception was fully restored.
@@robertacevedo2622 Sounds like the turntable drive motor is causing interference
Yeah dos is goot
