I like the idea and the video BUT PLEASE KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE ROUTER BIT!!! (7:35) There is no way they can stick the parts of your fingers back on in case something happens and your fingers get pulled into the spinning router bit.
I know, you seem to have done this many times and you look like you have everything under control, but a) accidents can happen to the most experienced people and b) you as a RUclipsr are a role model for other not so experienced home workers who will not see the danger you are so easily dealing with. So please use something else less important than your fingers to hold the workpiece at the router. If not for the sake of your fingers then at least for the sake of the fingers of your viewers… Thank you.
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
How should one 'rout' those knobs (on both sides)? Mounted on a long rod, tightened with nuts? There's not much material to work with for a clamp (but yes, it does look dangerous - def. not for beginners).
I make knobs with a similar, but less accurate jig. For the round over, I use a small bit of CA glue and activator and glue them to a piece of scrap wood. A good tap with a rubber mallet to the side and they pop right off.
It’s a little more work to sand off the CA glue but safer IMHO.
I did my first one about a year ago and used my (shop built) router table. It was terrifying and I stopped halfway through until I thought of a better way.
huh, I usually just pop my fingers back on after an accident
they want maney, not profesionalism

Easy, and since this is a safety issue I'll share. Get a small board, say 2 inches by 12 inches by 1/2 or 3/4 inch thick. Drill two holes for short dowels, maybe at an angle, just a bit smaller than the center hole. One for the center hole, and one at the edge of the notch.
Now you can easily use this to manipulate the knob, just put one dowel in the center hole, one in the notch cut out, and hold it down with the end of the stick. You shouldn't get your hand within 6 inches of the router bit with this, don't push hard toward the bit just use it to hold it down.
There's no need to mount this at all to control it, simply make a manipulator to hold and move it other than your fingers. And make it wood so you won't wreck your router bit if you happen to touch it to the bit.
Very nice, but think about safety, stop the drll, and do not put the fingers near any cutting bit
you should make a small knob to fit over the nut you tighten the big knob with so you don't have to keep going for a wrench
But then he would need to make a smaller jig with which would require a even smaller knob... which would require an even smaller jig
Almost like this is a complete fool's errand.
Butterfly nut?
Or just use a small wing nut instead.
@@bmwz3coupe then he'd need to make a wingnut jig
Very clever. Simple yet effective. Nicely done.
Thanks for sharing .I have been busy trying to make a set of knobs will try to make this jig😊
Wow! I'm really impressed. So easy. Thanks

Love it. Subscribed!
Nice! Very smart!
That's brilliant, I'll use it if I may.
WOW! Super Nice!😃👍👍👍
Thank you. Have a good day😉👍
Why does there appear to be a bearing in the one jig hole at the end? Also, why make two toggles that can be used simultaneously when only the one is ever used?
Saludos..😊
Hello, very good professor, I am not a carpenter, but I like working with wood. I had seen another method to make these stars before. Maybe it was your work, but this method is unique. Please let me know the names of these.
Sensacional!!!! Parabéns
I'm fron Brazil. Very good 👍
Great work
Nice making 🎉
C'est top ce système 👍
Great job. A minor improvement: you could use one of those knobs in the center to hold the piece instead of a wrench? A smaller one perhaps.
Or just use wing nut.
Oh hell yeah, that's cool as hell. I want to make this jig!!!
Cool idea. Now you have to figure out how to clamp the blank so that you don't have to turn the nut so much.
Is it still essential if I have no desire to make knobs?
Awesome!
Why not a knob to replace the center nut and wrench?
Very impressive
Genius idea!!
So cool
Like others I was impressed until I saw the fingers getting so close to the router bit

We can using this method to make index gear ??? Thanks❤
no, because pi =3.14, not 3. OK for handles tho.

Genial 👍👍👍

Magnifique.
And it occurs to me that you could do this with a thick slab of plastic and make plastic knobs.
Nice jig
👍 👍 👍 👍
Wile E. Coyote, super genius...
Fantástico
Brillante! kamsahaeyo
Genial
Kỷ thuật hay quá 👍
Very cool jig. Just a thought to make the hardware more secure. Press them in as you did. Then remove the hardware and apply a thin coat of quality epoxy and reinstall. A nano reinforced epoxy would be ideal.

This is it chief
Fingers that close to the router bit is an accident just waiting to happen. Please everyone, think about safety first!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It was all good till I seen you shape it with the router. Yikes!
7:35 Begins the horror show.
And then don't epoxy the bolt to the embedded nut? Paleeez.
What for?

No you are the asshole
It is for making knobs for jigs and fixtures so you can fix things down with your fingers and not have to use spanners
Knobs.
