That way too if it’s shallow you’ll know you can still get through it You’ll normally find them on roads that go through creeks/rivers where the road crosses it (or sometimes I’ve seen them on large open roads but not often) They’re not there just to be there they do have a really useful purpose, also it’s cool to know and visualise how much water has gone through places before bc of the height of some of them

13:20 that's also what the tall obelisks in Egypt were for, many were near the Nile River because they needed to be able to boat out and mark the obelisk where the flooding stopped, which was also essential flooding for their fields to carry silt from the river. And those obelisks are enormous, imagine how high those floods could reach.
My horse was beaten at her previous home and she freaks whenever she sees a whip. Of course, we have a great relationship so I never use one, but when she see lunge whips she’s out.
Quarter horses are so beautiful, I am so happy she has a loving owner now! I had a Thoroughbred ex-racer who had been "trained" by a couple of idiots that knew nothing about horses or racing. She cost £400 (she was heading for the knackers yard), was skin and bone, had whip scars all down her hind quarters & would spook at the slightest things. I changed her name to Fleur, she was black with a white blaze with white speckles all around the blaze. After a year of intensive work, a proper diet and unending patients she was a different horse! We ended up having the most amazing bond, she completely trusted me, but only me. No one else could go in her stable or turn her out, eventually she started to trust the yard owner who was an amazing lady and helped me so much. Those whip scars never fully went away, I will never forget the day she trusted me enough to touch them, they were no longer painful but the emotional trauma was. I gave her a massive hug after plus a parsnip and a couple of mints and cried my eyes out, Fleur responded by licking my face - I know it was probably for the saltiness but it felt like she was trying to make ME better, she then put her head over my shoulder and pulled me closer. I had her for 17 amazing years, she had a good long 6 year retirement too after 5 years of competitive Dressage then lots of long countryside hacks. I still miss her. Sorry this is such a long reply, it's not often you come across other horsey people that have a horse from a mistreated background. Sadly it's all to common in the racing industry.

I'm born, raised and lived in Northern California my whole life. Been married to my hubby, who is British, for 22+ years. His accent is fairly easy to understand, compared to these especially! What cracks me up is when we're watching something British, he'll often ask me, "What did they just say?" So I have to translate English to a guy from England.
The dude that was "training" the horse is stupid. Horses learn from release of pressure, so you ask them to go gently until they do, then you stop asking and then they learn. They do not learn from punishment.
@@SangriaDracul stop, you have no knowledge about horses so don't speak. That man is abusing the horse, plain and simple. Yeah literally the only thing that guy was teaching the horse to do was to ignore signals from him, until the signal becomes strong enough to be abuse🤦♀️🤦♀️
11:24 Okay so it's not the UK, but I have family in Ireland, and one day we saw a house that was partially built, and the entire thing was being built of concrete cinder blocks - the 4 exterior walls and a few of the interior ones. Whereas where I live in eastern Canada, houses all have a concrete basement, but the walls of houses will be made of 2x4 studs, eg. wood framing, covered with some type of siding or brick exterior, or horrifyingly, styrofoam covered with plaster (EIFS) So they are definitely not built the same way as in Ireland.

@@nerdycurls6253 because the UK is so much older than America. People used to live in relatively isolated villages and towns, and in the absence of mass media and fast transport, wildly different accents developed
@@nerdycurls6253 Yes lots of different accents, not just the only two hollywood has ever represented - queens English and cockney. Accents are mostly different in each county and can be different in neighbouring towns and cities. For example, scouse, Yorkshire, geordie, West Country, brummie, east Anglian, Scottish highlands, lowlands and welsh ones.
@@davidh5130 not everyone with this accent is full of drugs and riding around on bikes with no wheels. @@bettyboosh8384 True. My dads best friend is a multi millionaire who lives in a castle (North Yorkshire) and has an accent similar to this. People don’t seem to get that just because you’re from the North - it doesn’t make you poor. I work in a local university and all the southern students seem to have this misconception that everyone up north is poor and speak in broken English, it just isn’t true. There’s rich and poor people across all areas and these people shown in this video obviously don’t have much, but it’s got nothing to do with Yorkshire or their accents.
This village is near Newcastle, the boy who got smacked had a Newcastle football club shirt on. Also, fishing villages and old mining town are known to generally be awful, since those industries got outsourced to cheaper countries.
13:25 part of the reason, at least from a civi point of view, need the measurement to know if your SUV/Ute/4x4 is tall and heavy enough that it will be able to cross
In the USA we have flood measure sticks. They aren't obvious, usually position near bridges or docks. Sometimes they go completely under water and have to be adjusted for the next flood. Especially the ones along the east coast. On the west coast the water is so low the measure sticks are basically hovering on the canyon walls. When they say falsh flood on the west they mean it. around spring the runoff rivers start raging. any rain just adds to it but after the runoff period all rivers are dry.
I’m so happy to see other countries also have regions and cultures like this 😆 Thought it was just the deepest Appalachian populations. Probably fun people but definitely some culture shock initially.
Yessir and they can be really useful especially when you’re far inland. Also it’s cool to see how much water can go through one are when all you see when you’re driving through normally is just dirt and trees
15:15 why does ken say sh1t like "In America if you can read they just give you a license." You have to take a written examination which consists of 100 questions and a driving examination and if you get 3 marks wrong you fail. I mean yeah if you read the book you can pass the test but that kinda goes for anything. But you still have to prove your knowledge.
As someone who lives near the coast.. those sticks that tell you how deep the water is when it floods helps so that people don't drive into water and get stuck or drown.. because a lot of times you can't tell how deep it is.. you may think it's just a little water but by the time you realize it's much deeper it's too late
Now to make it better. Pewds said he doesn't need subtitles for Filipinos, he can understand them fine but for you guys he can't understand a damn thing they are saying lol Filipinos speak better English then the English!!
Totally get the flooding sticks seem a bit silly but it makes sense since it's a low cost for preventing avoidable deaths. Generally when you see them, you're in a high risk flood area, and enough people under estimate how deep it's flooding (maybe it's a truck driver looking to make delivery on time and would have risked until they knew how deep it was, maybe they're out of town, who knows). These high risk flooding areas get dangerous really quick and make it real clear that "yes this is a dangerous level of flooding, turn around."
Yeah Brighton is in the south, and this accent is wayyy North, plus its way out in the countryside about 2 hours by train from the nearest city. I wouldn't even expect other brits to understand it. 🤣

The thing you gotta know about the Welsh language is that 'w' usually makes a harsh 'ooh/u' sound, 'dd' usually makes a 'th' sound, 'Ll' makes a 'cl' sound like the beginning of close and 'y' is almost always an 'ih' sound. Once you've got those down, it's pretty easy 😂
Hi, Australian here. The floodstick measures are used to indicate how deep the flooding is, so prospective drivers know if their vehicle can handle the flooded road or not. Hope that helps those curious!
Old houses over here are built out of strong brick. My house was built in the early 1930s and it is hard brick. Near impossible to drill through. They were built to last. My horse was beaten at her previous home and she freaks whenever she sees a whip. Of course, we have a great relationship so I never use one, but when she see lunge whips she’s out.
What kind of horse?
@@4d3c2b1a Quarter Horse
You have a horse? Wtf you must be rich
@@kayoliver5530 lol np, I have an ex racehorse too and now that she’s retired, she’s the funniest and sweetest horse. Her name is Pinch My Cheeks but we just call her Cheeks, which ironically suits her perfectly.
As a southern American I understand about 95% of what they were saying, I'm surprised ken couldn't being from the south
He's from the wealthy side
Felix & his pee is like .. ‘just asking for a friend lmao’
The dude that was "training" the horse is stupid. Horses learn from release of pressure, so you ask them to go gently until they do, then you stop asking and then they learn. They do not learn from punishment.
but those are being trained to be tough like the residents.
@@SangriaDracul no, they are trained to be scared of humans.
@@SangriaDracul stop, you have no knowledge about horses so don't speak. That man is abusing the horse, plain and simple.

When this is your actual accent and you now have a super power over both Ken and Pewds.
Not being able to communicate effectively is a great superpower
@@davidh5130 not everyone with this accent is full of drugs and riding around on bikes with no wheels. Yorkshire is massive, lots of people have this accent, yes even doctors and rich people, shock horror. Just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean we are unable to communicate effectively, we would probably just dumb down our accent for you, but why would we do that at home when everyone understands us?
@@bettyboosh8384 True. My dads best friend is a multi millionaire who lives in a castle (North Yorkshire) and has an accent similar to this. People don’t seem to get that just because you’re from the North - it doesn’t make you poor.
I work in a local university and all the southern students seem to have this misconception that everyone up north is poor and speak in broken English, it just isn’t true. There’s rich and poor people across all areas and these people shown in this video obviously don’t have much, but it’s got nothing to do with Yorkshire or their accents.
As an Australian, it's so fun hearing Ken talking about things in Australia I've never thought twice about.

This village is near Newcastle, the boy who got smacked had a Newcastle football club shirt on. For those who don't know, Newcastle is a shit hole, so it's unsurprising the villages surrounding it are dives too. Also, fishing villages and old mining town are known to generally be awful, since those industries got outsourced to cheaper countries.
Dunno about all of Newcastle being a shit hole like, some of it's alright. Better the further north you go.
@Lauren Damaso Ruiz Newcastle is a shit hole though.

@Lauren Damaso Ruiz lol I think you just need to take the L.
Some places are shitholes.
I’m so happy to see other countries also have regions and cultures like this 😆
Thought it was just the deepest Appalachian populations. Probably fun people but definitely some culture shock initially.

Those sticks in Australia, could they be so people can decide if it's too flooded to drive through?
A lot of them also mark past severe floods
Yessir and they can be really useful especially when you’re far inland. Also it’s cool to see how much water can go through one are when all you see when you’re driving through normally is just dirt and trees

Omg does felix have to wake up at 4 am just to record with Ken?😂
no, its ken who have to wake up at 4 am

I love how felix lives in Britain for years but isn't at all ashamed he doesn't know the language👌🏻
To be fair, he has lived in Brighton which has a million other regional dialects between there and Yorkshire itself

6:50 nah, horses show there teeth as a sign of aggression, Felix was right to be scared.
I kinda agree with Ken on the housing. It the houses do look ancient. Nobody wants to rebuild them to try and keep up the structural integrity

Ken: Gobsmacked? Ohh when you're slack-jawed.

Hi, Australian here. The floodstick measures are used to indicate how deep the flooding is, so prospective drivers know if their vehicle can handle the flooded road or not. Hope that helps those curious!
Ken is like a therapist for Poods, revealing traumating memories just by talking
Old houses over here are built out of strong brick. My house was built in the early 1930s and it is hard brick. Near impossible to drill through. They were built to last. Unfortunately it costs a lot more to repair which means more people suffer from leaks and other problems. Newer houses are cheaper to repair, but the bricks aren't half as strong.
