2024 update for those of you picking up the F-4S on sale: MULTIPATHING WAS NERFED which means you have to be much closer to the ground to evade missiles by flying low. It's still possible, but try it at your own risk and be careful of splash damage. Going 90 degrees and using chaff is safer. The same goes for your missiles however, they are more deadly now. I plan on making a revamped jet guide for 2024, but for now I'm leaving this one up since most of it is still relevant.
@@titirex1408 Make sure your RWR sensitivity is set to 100% in options. Other than that, the F-4S's RWR is pretty limited and struggles with pulse-doppler radars, you won't get lock or launch warnings (but locks will give a constant tone).
not hating on jaek but man that’s a very subjective comment. there’s plenty of cc out there making highly detailed guides as well. defyn, Tim’s variety and a few more. calling this the “highest quality” is just a thoughtless comment.
1. Shows up after 3 years on a new game. 2. Starts out with a intro straight out of vintage 2005/2006 RUclips. 3. Gives a straight to the point, extremely clear and consise F-4S tutorial generalizable to most top tier jets WITHOUT comparing it to the F-4J 4. Refuses to elaborate. 5. Leaves. You've earned a subscriber.
He also just dropped the best radar guide in the history of this game. It's on Defyn's channel as they worked together on it (I'm assuming because if it dropped on his channel alot less people would see it) but god damn is it good.
Adding two cents: -F-4S features radar gunsight, called EEGS. It gives lead indication when you have radar lock and you're within +-1km of the target, something that eventually was added to most Phantoms. -Going perpendicular to the radar source when defending against radar guided missiles works because you're defeating Pulse Doppler radar on the attacker as well receiver on the missile, though this is range to and target altitude dependent. If attacker uses Search mode, you deploy chaff then turn sideways to get as far from it as possible, to get out of radar illumination cone. Reason being, CW (Continuous Wave) seekers are modeled to use Doppler receiver, looking for difference in speed. And as chaff deaccelerates VERY fast after ejection. Thus, just deploying chaff and staying relatively close to it from attacker perspective may result in danger noodle spooking you anyway.
@@TheStig_TG This video as well Tims Variety review + radar guide are pretty much spot on when it comes to knowledge needed, then its matter of practice.
@@TheStig_TG Flying low, treetop kind of low is no brain way of defeating radar missiles, as even PD radars aren't immune to ground interference (?) as seen on 3:28 - radar lock is maintained, but shifts to the ground, ensuring missile will miss Flanking isn't the best idea IMO, as enemies will be already in, or close to notch position. Flying high can be high risk, but also high reward. Above 5.5km contrail forms, which is one sure way of attracting attention, but just below that, you might stay outside of search radars of all the players staying on the deck. Still, be on a lookout for missile contrails that might be coming your way from Phoenixes and pay attention to RWR. While Sparrow does have good range in ideal conditions (6km+ alt, 1ma+ speed, target oblivious to RWR screaming for more than minute), it seems to be the most effective between 2 and 5km, leaving as little time for enemy to react as possible. If enemy starts notching, you turn into them to delay radar losing lock for as long as possible, that one or two seconds extra can make a difference. And get acquainted with HMD, that is one major advantage in combat, both getting off-boresight locks (5:30) as well maintaining radar silence when ambushing - radar doesn't emit until you ask it to find targets you're looking at
I actually never thought about rocking an extra Sparrow over the AIM-9s. Gonna go try that out. Feel kinda dumb because the AIM-7 is definitely my best weapon
This guide has no business being this good. Concise and understandable to someone new to top tier (air that is) yet detailed enough to actually help a ton.
This is a fantastic guide. I recently bought the F4S to grind out my US air tech tree since I don't really have any interest in WW2 piston engine craft and only really care about jets and didn't wanna wait months to get to the stuff I'm actually interested in. The fact it's a Phantom II is a plus since it's one of my favorite jets. This guide is definitely gonna help me adjust to the change in flight mechanics.
Bro absolutely top teir video. Thank you covering how the radar works, what to keybind, and overall being very clean informative and to the point. Overall excellent video. Keep up the good work
This is, without a doubt, the best video I have ever seen on a WT breakdown. Keep it up and you will have a really big YT channel. Look forward to more of your content.
As a phantom player that has the 4S, this really helped with my technical work. Before that I had no idea which mode was pulse Doppler. Much appreciated ❤
good job with this you really just came out of nowhere and dropped some really solid info. I’m already top tier but even I didn’t know some of the things about the radar so thanks lol
I USUALLY find tutorials painful to watch but you made it simple gave instructions that someone with ANY keybind setup could follow preciate ur help u made the f4s easier to use!!

a good quality vid with no bs while getting right to the point and stepping into the shoes of a player whos new and just bought a high rank premium. nice
this guide is really helpful for new players like me who were told to buy this by a friend but said friend never explained how to use Jets an updated guide will be much appreciated
I thought this was a very informative tutorial on how to fly top tier planes in general. This was a very worthwhile video tutorial and I really appreciated it!
No offence to Tims Variety he did explain radar quite well but I understood a lot more for Jaek_ about not only the F4s radar but for all post cold war era planes with iff radar and radar in general.😂
Adding to the stuff said in the video, in the F4J don't bother trying to dog fight. If you need to use the gun on unaware targets but without those leading edge slats you'll turn like even more of a bus than the F4S. 7F's best ranges are 7-2km for close range enemies that appear aware, however if they seem to be a bot or just haven't bothered to watch a tutorial on top tier and are high above the ground feel free to throw a 7F at them from 15km. Go for enemies that are low on speed or high above the ground with 7F's. If they're slow then you can bop them before they can get close to the ground, and the same goes for if they're high. You do have the second best SARH in the game and a decent radar, so play to those strengths. The F4 is a massive missile bus and won't win many confrontations against gen 3.5 and 4 aircraft.
Just a note: somewhat recently, pulse Doppler mode for the F-4S has IFF. All targets show up as a single horizontal line as before, but friendlies have a second horizontal line at the very top of the radar display.
I very nearly skipped video because in the mouse over on YT it showed that initial opening with the word document and based off that I figured the entire video would be that or just voice to text. Glad I didn't some good info but something to think about.
Loving the tutorial, but I am having absolutely terrible luck with the 7F. It’s going to targets that I don’t even have locked up and no, I’m not talking about chaff
I loved this guide and I appreciate it. The radar section helped alot I thought the HMD was useless when i get home I'm going to try to lock it in test flight (getting this plane for christmas)
I don't have the f4s yet, but plan to get it on the anniversary sale. I've been test flying it recently just to learn to use it and to see for sure if I do want to buy it. I was really confused on how to use the aim 7s and radar modes as I'm just hitting rank 6 and getting access to that type of stuff
This video got me from an inexperienced noob who dies immediately to getting a good, consistent 4-6 kills per match plus a base kill or two. Thank you so much now that I can actually use this jet to its fullest potential
Im an Xbox player who cant find a single video for XBOX air controls, but this video was very helpful. It was hard to find the right key binds for anything. Eventually I figured it out and now can use this plane a lot better. Thankyou

Why does it matter if someone pays for shit in a game? They worked for that money shouldn't they be perfectly fine spending it?😂
Do you want the wallet warriors to stay horrible or do you want them to actually help teams?
