My first video with easy mods for the Taranis X9D Plus became very popular and inspired many of you to make your transmitter unique.
It is now time to do the same with the FrSky Taranis Q X7!
The QX7 is very capable, very affordable and much easier to mod. Just think of a theme, make smart combinations of parts, a few easy DIY modifications and you are good to go!

muteFPV yeah it gives it a whole new look. I plan on doing some of these on mine. I have the qx7s in blue so I just gotta figure out a color scheme.
mmmmm blue will be tricky (and all blue accessories will not look good).
Yellow would look funky but there aren't many accessories in that color.
muteFPV maybe I'll just do what you did here but opposite and use white as highlights. Still thinking of painting it a flat sand or a flat red and doing black highlights. Either way it'll look good with these mods.

You can have some parts 3D printed too, if you or a friend have a printer! They will not shine but they will be perfectly functional! You can find many designs on Thingiverse.

If you paint the gimbal rings, paint the scroll wheel as well, it looks very nice if it is the same color.

Plus, I would add M-7 Hall Gimbals and a GenAce 2400 2s Lipo Tx Battery. Two of the best mods I made to mine!

Close call. Cheaper just to add the gimbals yourself, but there are a few other difference some may want. For me, the M-7 made the biggest difference. They center beautifully and it feels like you have much more precise resolution than the stock gimbals.
I agree with you on the better gimbals. I had upgraded my X9D Plus as soon as the M9s came out.
I think the Q X7S is a better choice if upgrading anyway also because of the angled switches. Especially for a pincher.

Why didn't you paint the rings blue to go with the rest of the bling? This all looks good but the speaker mod won't work with my IRX module in that bay. There is a speaker mod that fits in place of the stock speaker.
I did what I liked to do, this is not meant to be a guide for you to follow blindly. It is meant to give ideas for people to mod their QX7 any way they like. You can paint the rings any color you like and use any speaker you want.

It does, yes. You could probably mount the speaker elsewhere, maybe with a 3D printed housing. I did not look into this alternative

Similarly to the 1st video of my X9D mods, I wanted to keep things simple and easy to do. Noted for future mods though ;)

Only think i kinda don't like about this exact mod is guitar knobs, i like stock ones more
I tend to exaggerate when choosing pot knobs. Large numbered dials on the QX7, weird metal skulls on the T16 and now beefy guitar knobs on the TX16S 😜 Anyway, my goal is just to give ideas, noone needs to use exactly what I used

I have an eflite viper 70 mm edf and I bind my Taranis QX7 with Spektrum Rx AR636A AS3X using the JP4IN1 Jumper Multiprotocol Module....... everything is working good, but I don't know how to make the Safe works, how can I assign a switch to enable or unable that option?..... I'll appreciate any help... thank you....
Hello! Sorry but I have no idea how you could enable that with a switch. I don't expect the viper to have an interface you can connect to and adjust the settings, modes etc like you would in a betaflight quad for example. I would try and ask in a multiprotocol-related thread over at RCGroups, maybe someone has figured it out.

What color spray is suitable for the painting?
Not sure, I just went to the hardware store and asked for spray paint suitable for plastics.
Is your transmiter balancer horizontal or vertical ? I don’t know how is correct. I want one like yours.
It was easy to find, it was one of my first orders from aliexpress :P It says horizontal. I can't remember how it was on the QX7 but on the X9D you could rotate the neckstrap hook. But I prefer the horizontal because if it becomes loose it does not move up, it just goes from side to side.

I realize this video is a few years old, but has anyone did a lower profile back grips?
I haven't but that's an interesting idea. Have you removed the grips? Is the shell flat under them or is there a hump? I don't own the radio anymore
@@muteFPV Just went back through your video and at 7:39 it appears that there is a hump there in the casing. I started this journey of back grips because I just got the Radiomaster t16s max and the grips are HUGE compared to the Jumper and QX7. After measuring things to see why the QX7 fits better in my hands, I noticed the back grips on the RM. I may end up buying another casing for the RM and seeing if I can cut down the outside grip part. Same thing for the QX7, those grips just get in the way when hybrid pinching.
I have the same "problem" with the TX16S but the solution is much more simple: get a rear shell from a Jumper T16. As far as I know it fits with very minor mods (maybe a little trimming around the battery plug). I will probably do it too but things take forever to arrive.
None of these mods help your flying, drains your modelling wallet.. LOL
Well, it is nothing compared to what we spend for this hobby :P
Sorry take your time, but is it possible assembly all 6 switch knobs ? Are all them long or is there any short? I ask because my X7 just will arrive Friday. I don’t have it here now. I intend to buy 3 kits (W7502). I think are 2 shorts and 4 Longs. Am I correct?
There are 2 short and 2 long that are flat like an "I" and there are 2 long that are round like an "o". The metal switch knobs can be screwed on the round switches but they will spin around and you will not like it. Better use heatshrink on these two round switches like I did, or maybe a thin silicone tube if you want to add color.

@@muteFPV I bought read nubs for the front, also the hanger in red and the stand in the back in blue. Looks neat but it's still pretty dark I might put some vinyl on the case to make it more unique. But thanks for your vid because that's what helped me transform my QX7 enough to make it look cool!

Not sure about that, if I remember correctly it comes with an illuminated back panel instead of smd leds with diffuser, like in the X9D.

hehehehe :) Are you not happy with it? The main thing I disliked was the position of the switches above the gimbals, I am a pincher and I always jammed of fingers on those switches on the QX7.

What’s the LBT and NON LBT mean when I’m buying it
Hello! EU/LBT version is intended for people living in Europe, in order to abide the European laws. This version does not do D8 mode and may have limited transmission power. The non-LBT (FCC / International) version is for the rest of the world. Many people in Europe fly FCC / International radios. Whichever you choose, you need to make sure that the receiver is also flashed with the corresponding firmware (for EU/LBT or International).

Noted, I wanted to keep things simple for the first video but I will most probably do that in both the Q X7 and the X9D.
It is not "needed" but it does increase range. You must be aware to have the antenna length facing the direction you are flying, especially in high-gain antennas.

Thanks :) As I said in the video, the battery pack I had ordered had not arrived (and still hasn't...). Very few vendors ship batteries to my location, it has been hard to get lipos during the last few months!
But I agree, it is a must to replace the battery box.
The charge kit looks nice, I was not planning on adding one.
