If you connect the QX7 to your computer and use Open TX Companion to upload all the model settings from the radio, you can then create a model on Companion and you get the simple set up system just like the X9D. Then download all the changes back to the radio. You don't need to change the firmware to get benefit from Companion. This sounds a lot of effort with USB leads etc, but once you know how to do it, its a really quick way to create a model. Especially a wing cos it does all the mixes for you.
It sure does. Not all pilots are willing to go through that and being able to navigate the menus is a very useful skill to have at the field. Thanks for posting!

Still, it would be nice to have the wizard on the qx7. It's already August and it's only a software issue, not hardware

In your video where you setup a plane you are about to take off but realise 2 of your stick assignments are wrong.
You then say its easily fixed! Please how did you do it? Ive tried but now my setup ignores the left stick completely. Ie no throttle or rudder. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Robert

I've had my QX7 and a few quads for q while and while I'm somewhat comfortable in setting them up, I'm always learning new things and the video pointed a few of those things out.
Excellent video too for helping set up the TX for the wing that I'm planning on adding in the very near future.
I so appreciate the way you go over everything and kinda' leave out the "fluff." It helps move the video along... And when more info is needed, we have the comment section, and I must say that you've been very prompt and helpful in replying to my queries, when Ive needed to ask more questions. Thank you for that! And that Sir, is why I am a subscriber and will help provide means to help keep your channel alive and growing! Theres a few folks that are worthy of helping along and others that, well, less just not think about them... but I have to say again, that Ive learned a great deal from your videos and will keep coming back to check on content and answers, to the questions that sometimes I cannot find anywhere else!

+interman 77 yep, OpenTX is the most powerful radio firmware system I’ve ever used. It makes you think a little for anything more than basic setups so for some it’s simply too complex to use. For me - I wouldn’t use anything else now...

I have followed the instructions for the wing model, but the aileron is upside down, the right one is left and the left one is right so what is the solution?

Hi. Just a quick question regarding helicopter CCPM setup for this radio. Just bought my first open-Tx qx 7 and is a little bit overwhelming compared to spektrum tx setups. Just want to setup 0~100 pitch and throttle curves, channel reverse and end points. If you could shine some light on this please.

i had a question, i am trying to add other channels (switches) to my Qx7, but can only use SA, SH and SD (only switches to two positions not 3). I followed directions INPUT, label, then Mixer input..some are showing up but not all. I have Rx X4rsb.

I have a Taranis X7 which had 2.2.2. OpenTX firmware. The Mixer menu has disappeared from it. I have tried to update the firmware to 2.3.0. but still no Mixer menu available. How can I get it back, please?

@@Painless360 Sorry. I have had a short-circuit in the brain probably. Figured it out. I have been into the radio menu, never have entered the model menu.
Now I can enter that (figured out how) and all the options are there.
Silly mistake from me....
Update, I went through the bind procedure. I think it worked. The receiver is the XM+. I wasn't sure which protocol to use either D8 or D16. I left it at D16. Now when I plug in the quad, it's beeping. Any idea what causes that? Thanks Lee.
Could be a few things but no RC signals would the thing I'd check first.. Best of luck
@@Painless360 you were right, went through the entire bind procedure again. I had to move the plastic cover from the RX. This time it worked, no beeping. Thanks for your help. Onward.

Hi Lee I have had to setup my flying wing again after putting in a new receiver however I have used the wing wizard on the qx7 My channels are in the order of throttle aileron elevator and yet channels 2 and 3 on my radio are switched! (Ele now ail) It doesn't change if I swap the servo leads either? Any ideas as to what is going on? It's really doing my head in!!

You can swap the servo wires on the receiver or you can move the outputs on the radio. Both will work. See my Flying Wing for beginners series that goes through it in details.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Hi Lee, I did try swapping the servo wires but I still had the same result, both channels were behaving like ailerons. I then tried moving the minus sign on the mixer and it turned out that I had to use the minus sign on one of the elevator outputs! Odd but since doing that it works which I suppose is what matters.

What about Helicopters? When i copied my old helicopterfiles from my x9d to my x7 the x7 didnt show anything on the screen after turning it on. I had to reset everything to get it working again :( Also when i updated the Firmware from my x9d to the latest one, the helicopter Profile didn't worked anymore :(

I got the mode switch to work but the arming switch wont-work And the mode switch works on Beta flight But not the arming switch what's wrong
Very tricky to help without you being a little clearer on what you've done, what's happening and what's not. Is the AUX channel indicator moving for the ARM mode? This is so helpful mate. I used your video to set up a v tail and my only issue is by using values of 50% i only have 50% elevator/rudder servo range
There is only so much movement the servo can handle and as it has to do both controls the same time you need to be able to mix both for maximum effect. The weight setup is how it’s supposed to be, if you increase the value of 50% then it means that there is less travel available for the other control. Planes are set up with a V tail with this in mind so that there is enough authority with the settings as shown. Best of luck..

Hi and thanks for your useful videos. I've just bought my qx7. When I flashed 2.20 I may have selected TAER in the settings tab (copied the settings on the tutorial video). Now I'm trying to setup the Arfun 95 Pro with frsky D8 receiver. I noticed that it's also possible to choose a drop down box under receiver in betaflight to specify AETR etc. Do I need to match the order on the qx7 against the receiver drop down for D8 receiver or is it vice versa? I've bound the qx7 already to the receiver so do I need to re-bind if I make any changes to AETR settings?

Depends on the receiver you're using. If it's an X series with a connection for SmartPort devices then you can use the LIPO sensor - see out video on that.. Best of luck!
Here an important question to me. When the final firmware is released including that model wizard will it be necessary to start all over from the beginning, re-create and set up all your models again?

hey I was wondering, I have a sma vtx, and could I use a rp-sma goggle receiver. and if not, what is the omni directional antennas do. would they fix it if they aren't the same. polarization

Sorry for the bother but I have another question.
I went to the FrSky/Q X7 download page, downloaded, unzipped and copied the files to my SD card. When I restarted the radio I got a big: S.D. CARD WARNING: Expecting ver 2.2v 0006.
When I looked back saw the update time one the site was 2017-92-14, version 170213 and on my radio the update time was 2017-02-23, version 2.2.0 (0857e276)
When I did the "Press any key" the X7 did run but as if there were no card in it. Didn't talk or any other difference, card or not.
Am I right in assuming my unit has a newer update and their not compatible or did I just do something wrong.

It was strange it worked somewhat when I did it the first time but when I redid it to try to add more dialog it screwed up. Leave it to me. LOL Thanks for taking time to make such great helpful videos and helping us noobs so much.

The SD card warning is cos you have the wrong version of SD card contents for the version of firmware you are using. If you go here downloads.open-tx.org/2.2/nightly/sdcard/ you can download the version your radio is asking for, unzip it directly to your SD card and once its back in the radio the warning will go away. And the sounds etc will work. :)
+Jack Cook is correct. I had the same problem. I also found out that my backup copies of my models didn't convert over correctly from my Tatanis Plus. I had to delete all of them and start over new. All in all, I like the Taranis Q X7 better than the Plus. May just be me. Good luck.

Hay painless360 can you do a video on setting up rssi to show on the radio? I followed your older guide but couldn't find rssi in the list when trying to show it in the telemetry screen. In the menu I can set up a warning on the telemetry once it gets to a certain point but can't see it live.

Eej i got a question, i got it to bind it works , and i set some switches but if i want to set a 3 position switch it only works like an 2position switch ,do you know what i should do?
+Bennie Leip are you saying that you're 3 position switch only gives you two positions? Are you sure it's the three position switch you're using?
Painless360 yes if i go top position to middle position it change and if i go to bottom position it switch back (so the top and bottom position he reads the same thing)

Hey Painless, Really like your videos, there great. Hey I just got an QX7 and I am trying to bind one of my Orangerx RX, it binds with the Irangex installed its works, but my trouble is that my thr only works on the Ale channel on the RX and the Ale works on the Thr channel ???? I don't know the radio that well yet. Would you have any ideas as to what is wrong or what I have done wrong. Thanks for any help.

The OpenTX setups are in the video the latest versions now include wizards that will help. Or, you can use OpenTX Companion to setup the model.. see the OpenTX mix school playlist. Best of luck!
On my Taranis the throttles minimum is set towards the center position of the stick and the max throttle is set towards the edges. How do I change that so that the throttle is at minimum when pulled all the way down and maximum when pushed away from you?

Your TX battery's voltage is going down fast. I'm using a 2000mah 2C Lifepo4 battery that lasts a while. Great videos!!!!!!

First thanks for this video, it helped me get 95% of my planes setup. The 5% I'm missing is trying to set up a V-Tail with Dual Ailerons (I like to have individual controls if I have the extra channels makes for easier trimming in the radio) Maybe something to add to this video? Thanks again.

I am running a variable, global variable on channel 10 using a curve and pot S1, which I run very successfully on my Taranis X9D but I am having problems on my Q X7. Can you please show me how to put a global variable onto an imput or mix, and we're are the GVR's listed on the X7 menu. Thank you.
Sorry, I'm not looking at much on OpenTX 2.2 until it's formally released. The OpenTX 2.2 on the Q X7 is not a final version so I'm hanging on looking at problems on it I can work on an official release.. Best of luck with it in the mean time..

Thanks i was able to set up my delta jet using the flying wing setup you explained above. my question is '' is it necessary to put the weight down to 50,50, -50 etc ? I realised that by doing so i am only getting half throws on my elevons 50% of what i would get with my previous radio. How can i get full throws using elevon mixing? I also want to set dual rates, although i was able to do that for my 3d plane im not able to figure out how to set low and high rates with elevon mixing.

You can increase that amount but then you'd get more than 1005 throw if you have full aileron and elevator deflection..
Which is the problem i am facing, in my previous radio i was using 100% ail & ele throws without going more than 100 when i have full aileron & elevator, stick in corners. This means there is a huge programming problem in open tx?

I have a small 3-channel V-Tailed aircraft.
Actually, it belongs to someone here at work. He built it as a senior project in college.
It has a V-Tail, with one servo for each control surface (Elevator/Rudder/Aileron function).
It has flown before, but not for awhile.
I have a Taranis QX7, and a V8R7-II Rx for it.
It already has the ESC, Motor and Servos in it.
Can someone guide me, or point me to a guide, on how to program the mixing on a Taranis QX7 so that the
Right stick will control the V-Tail (Pitch & Yaw mostly, but possibly some Roll by differential L&R elevator control).
I have set up a model in the TX and named it.
I copied your Flying Wing Mixing Setup - which I think should work since I want the V-Tail controlled
by the right stick, which is how a flying wing would work.
Am I on the right track?
Sort of. A v tail is normally only a mix of rudder and elevator.. best of luck!

Not sure what you mean but you can create the model in companion or the radio and copy them between to two.. See the videos in the 'OpenTX Mix School' on managing model memories.. Hope it helps.

I am loving my qx7 and working with your essential videos.... 1. is there a site with a set of basic models available to download? that would save time..and 2. what is the solution to getting full aileron or full elevator deflection on a Vwing when the weights are reduced to 50%..thats been puzzling me.. or is it not a reduced deflection when set at 50..edit.... 1) Sadly no basic models on the radio or a nice Wizard to help set them up (what a huge oversight by usually excellent OpenTX team). Hence this video :D 2)It is, that's the way otherwise you could get maximum deflection with just one control and then no movement for the other. You can set it up differently if you have a better way than this model staple..

If you use the mix with 100% values then at maximum aileron or elevator deflection you have no movement available for the other control. Try it and see. Best of luck with it
damn, I had the explanation all typed out and lost it when the video moved to another... I have been playing and 100% does work.. its how to get a full deflection on either the aileron or elevator when used by itself.. the combined effect does result in that while one surface is at its max, only the one other surface will adjust.. depending on your input..but that's the same as for any radio system.. adding the two will not overdrive the servo.. using 50% you will get a reduced max throw on ailerons and elevator..
Let the OpenTX developers know, maybe they are missing a trick. Happy flying!
Ive been playing with the companion..it has a model wizard built in and using the wizard the basic models can be set in seconds rather than minutes.. the models can then be edited to get expo and multi rates.. and when done they can be transferred to your TX..
