- Update 30.08.2014 - About Sherbert/Rickshaw
"Hello everyone. It's nice to see so many as passionate about stoner and desert rock as I am. This video has been on the internet for 5 years and I have not been delving into this old qotsa songs for some time. A fellow desert rock friend of mine pointed out that this is version of rickshaw is not called sherbert, Thus, I have changed the name to Rickshaw; I don't really have a clue what it is called anymore."
Quote from thefade.net
"This is the first demo QOTSA did prior to releasing the first album. It was recorded at Jupiter Studios in Seattle in either late 1997 or early 1998. The line-up for the recording was: Josh - guitar, John McBain - guitar, Mike Johnson - bass, and Alfredo Hernandez - drums. This demo was made to give record companies a taste of the band, as QOTSA was unsigned when this was recorded."
Tracks:
The Bronze
How to Handle a Rope
Mexicola
Oppenheimer's Brother
Sherbert
I got this song from an old Rekord Rekords Forum thread. As you may've noticed, this song is VERY similar to the song 'Rickshaw' featured in The Desert Sessions. The song is from the Plastic Turks recording session. It turned out, after a conversation between McBain and RUclips user desertblitzkrieg, that Sherbert was an instrumental he composed. - Видеоклипы
this is the heaviest calming song i've ever heard
Why it’s probably my favorite song ever
Like a blanket distorted and in overdrive
Bruh
That's QOTSA, baby
@@YourMom-mt9ld weighted metal blanket
Can't get enough of this song. It should've been on their first record!
Agree. It's my favorite song they've ever done. It's beautiful!
It's a great song i love qotsa
This came after their first record I believe
I might be QOTSA's best
Felix Morrissey rickshaw was released one year before self titled in the plastic turks sessions. Born to hula is the oldest Qotsa song afaik, it was already around when gamma ray was a thing
Why is it so hard to meet people IRL who listen to this music?
all in asylums ;)
DesertSessions93 cause people suck.... bad!
Nice username! Joshua Homme is one of the best guitarists/vocalists/writers ever!
o/ I escaped the asylum
i scar people.
wait...i scare people.
That's one of the few songs that i can listen like ten times consecutive without getting bored! I miss this kind of kyuss/qotsa vibrations
Try the albums "Delmar" and "Ciudad de Brahman" by Los Natas which honestly is kinda similar especially the tracks "1980" and "Trilogía" off "Delmar"
Couldn't agree more. I've never gotten bored of this song. And it's so simple. Just glad it exists, and in multiple forms.
I love the low end sound of this song.
true...
Indeed
This song strikes a chord in me. Takes me somewhere I didn’t know existed. I prefer the other version but this one makes me feel like I’m in the desert at night all alone but not really alone.
Yea, exactly. This reminds me if my early 20s walking miles in the sticks just to get anywhere. There was peace in it and freedom I could never have now. No kids whining, no job to be tied down to, no husband to keep a low profile for, no friends to maintain social connections for.
The sound quality and the low bass of all instruments is haunting.
the difference between the desert sessions version and this one is sativa and indica lol
this version's heaps better!
i prefer the desert sessions version, its a little more lively sounding
@@KrushKrills I mean, its just as great, I feel this is a more deep and heavy version of the old school sounding Rickshawn from Desert Sessions 1999
indica is better in any context lol
That drum intro sure sounds a lot like my God is the sun
+Jethro Ireland Totally.
Good Catch!
12/4
But more than 20 years before ;-) Alfredo's very good drummer though.
Henry Foolman Alfredo might be my favorite QOTSA drummer. Grohl is obviously one of the better rock drummers ever and has a distinctive style that fit the SFTD era tunes well. Castillo had tempo issues but was an extremely powerful and propulsive drummer. Jon Theodore could be the most technically gifted of the bunch. Dean was great too.
But Fredo just had that desert groove. While there are certainly a lot of highlights from the other guys, Fredo just had a feel that they never got back.
If guitars were around in the actual stone age I reckon the cavemen would come up with something like this
😆👊🤘
top comm👌
It's got a very Kyuss sound; definitely dig it.
I can't be the only one who love these last few acords of bass starting at 3:24..
I wish the original lineup of QOTSA had released more recordings than they did. Rickshaw/Sherbert and Born to Hula are so awesome.
Check out 18ad & Oppenheimers brother by the original lineup
@@daddydolla521018 ad is Dave Catching and the rhythm section from Beaver
Dude, all until the afterwards of their first album was savage af. Alk my favoirites are from there . 18 ad, born to hula, infinity and so many others
@@Rickshaw_the_heretic 18a.d is🔥
I played this song so loud in my car is broke a bracket for the speakers!!!!!!!! QOTSA FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, this sounds way more like Kuyss and nothing like qotsa (josh homme played in kyuss before qotsa was born).
All the crap qotsa makes nowadays has nothing to do with this. Try listen to Kyuss and other stonerbands. Might suit you a whole lot better than the qotsa albums released the last couple of years! :)
Welcome to sky valley, you see in this 'video' is a Kyuss album, and a very good one too!
Jekzor Suchdoge Or...you can listen to both.
Yeah, I know Josh was in Kyuss before QOTSA, and I do like real Stoner Rock better than their last album. But, you should listen to both :)
Personally i lost interest after Songs for the Deaf. I feel todays qotsa albums are pretentious artsy stuff. To each his own, i suppose.
Rock on \m/
Jekzor Suchdoge yadda yadda yadda. QOTSA is far better and all the wicked riffs in KYUSS were written by Josh anyway
10 years later I still fucking love this version
I love stuff like this...when theres a deeper history to the song you love....old music makes me shiver....Its great to see what people could do then...music is becoming less and less potent with feeling....I'm just glad Josh has brought all this and more to come
Wow been a queens fan for 13 years and somehow never heard this. It sounds just like the Gamma Ray or split ep production wise... but it's crazy that the intro and outro drum riff sound surprisingly more like My God is the Sun than Rickshaw!
The entirety of this song is amazing and has me coming back to it like when I first came across it. Sensual, soft, intense, dreamy, driven- everything, but what gets me the most is that hint of a bassline towards the end. So. Freaken. Beautiful.
I want the Mexicola demo so hard.
That would be a ripping demo to hear, that song is pure power.
You and me brother, you and me ...
I'm just finding this now? I absolutely love the Desert Sessions "Rickshaw". Had no idea another version existed.
This is the best version for sure
Just arrived, September 2023.
I love this song, makes me feel strange... in a good way.
Why isn't this beautiful beast of a song on Spotify?!
Man, I came here cause I couldn't find it there. You're absolutely right!
@@kylethomson7583 I like that this and the desert sessions stuff isn't on streaming platforms, makes it more special
What a Beautiful song just absolutely beautiful
With the chorus FX on Josh's voice this kinda sounds like AIC, love it
I am pretty sure this is a leslie speaker at work but of course you never know....
Vocal effects sound a lot like Planet Caravan, damn
It's a Leslie-type rotary speaker, so the same kind that Ozzy's vocals were put through in Planet Caravan. It's (or rather was) commonly used for organ keyboards, but also with other instruments, like chimey electric guitar parts in Black Hole Sun.
@@djdamagedome and also impossible to record because of its acoustic 3d qualities
They were so much better back then. They made strange music and made it so memorable. The last Kyuss album, the first couple QOTSA albums, and the early Desert Sessions were the best of this genre. They were on to something unique and weird, but did it so well. It won't be duplicated. The desert era is over, done. But what a ride.
+Paul Eb It lives on if you believe.
They still do strange music today. ;) A band's gotta change, you know? Unless you're AC/DC. But then it gets boring quickly.
ottifant64 Oh I agree. I prefer the raw experimentation of the old stuff. You're completely right. They would have never lasted playing desert sessions like songs forever. I just think of that as their heyday. They were breaking new ground. They are still great, but I miss the old sound and experimentation.
Ogre I get what you mean. The end of Kyuss, they were still finding their sound. I really like these old demos, and the first Desert Sessions album is also my favorite.
Ogre it's not done yet buddy...I haven't finished the great road, and I hope I never do. Desert rock can't die, I still feel it deep in my gut when I hear these songs. It's still kickin.
This is one of my favorite queens songs
Just something about desert rock man...
I love rock and deserts so this will always be my cup of tea ;)
Keep this song playing, open a new tab, type in on youtube queens of the stone age- my god is the sun, when this song is near the end quickly press play on my god is the sun, it works perfectly hah
Holy shit you are right, it's the same haha :O !
First time hearing this!!!! ✨💆🏻♀️✨
Guitar harmony at 1:52 blows my mind.
Very Kyussish. Awesome!
Kyuss of the stone age 🏜️
Great song. Drums remind me of future qotsa song my god is the sun.
This is what it's all about man, couldn't keep on this sound for ever, but this is far better than the new material
You can thank Alfredo Hernandez, Nick Oliveri and John McBain for that. I think working with them influenced his sound.
are there any more songs like this one? this is magic...
Yes, there's massive amounts of stonerrock availlable. You never heard it cause its quite obscure. Try Kyuss and go from there (:
Jekzor Suchdoge
Eugh, stoner rock, that's nothing like it. Leave.
Ottifant
This isn't. This is the real thing. Stoner Rock is the copy.
Thee Ol' Boozeroony How can Stoner Rock be the copy, when Kyuss invented it?
Well Stoner Rock isn't really the thing that Kyuss is. It's rather Punk.
sexcellent. I love this version and the..the.. well, the real rickshaw. And all is right with the world...my world that is.
This song is stuck in my flesh
I love the huge sound of the guitar here.
Love that version more than everything. It's the sonic equivalent of sedimentary rocks.
Dat Vocal effect
I always wanted a rickshaw. This will have to suffice. Love your work, Homme x
I absolutely love this!!!
wow... i never knew this song was out there. and rickshaw is about my favourite song ever. now i know. yay.
Ugh! That bass line that comes in at the very end is amazing! Such a tease though.
guitars mellodies are great, some break and afterburn moments are quite polite and beatifull, in general can fly around any history. simply ,great.
love it. its so good man
amazing stuff such a hypnotizing song
Such clean and nice audio wow
Greatest song ever.
this is just perfect
Banging tune
This song is hypnotic.
Great! Thanx for posting! I got the The Desert In My Heart! And Rock In My Veins!
The perfect melting of Kyuss and QOTSA.
Palm Desert was beautiful, especially during the morning hours.
Whoah that's Josh singing? Interestingly he is basically emulating John Garcia's voice, he has the same inflections and everything.
And then later he'd start to sound more and more like Elvis
Oh yes. I love this.
my favorite QOTSA song
This excellent song listen when you fuul & completley STONED!!!
duuuude
yeahhh
Gives me ...and circus leaves town vibes.
This is fucking pure ecstasy ..
Thanks dude appreciate it.
I could fall asleep to this
Thanks man
The only true version of rickshaw!!!
.......So cool.....
the most philosophical-sounding stoner record ever created
Dirty guitar, party of one, your table is ready
This song is just pure fucking magic.
Sounds good coming out my space cruiser cockpit stereo 🚀
What a chorus
4:20 !!!smoking OG oil to this Awesome jam.
Superunknown vibe
This sounds so similar to the end of spaceship landing - kyuss ( the secret song after that 25 min long wait of silence or so)
Maybe it's just because they both open with rim shots/a stick count but My God Is the Sun seems to be calling back to this song.
I’ve only just noticed this!
drunk out of my mond but that just makes this shit better
Superbe. On ressent un peu de "my god is the sun". ❤
Genius
it's an early version of Rickshaw, which is Desert Sessions
this version was not on the desert sessions.
B scott indeed, theres a version of rickshaw in 1999 desert sessions, but clearly not this one
i have this picture on my desktop haha its great listening to qotsa or kyuss and staring at it
this is rickshaw, from vol 5&6 of Desert Sessions
I play it like C5, A5, E5, and the C with the open String but with 14th fret on F-string/A-string..sounds kinda accurate but I'm not sure.
@Multibjarne Thanks, man! New wallpaper.
how can these guys be so fuckin good
Love to see a return to this stoner sound, not digging modern day queens. They still come out with gems but sad to say a lot of the pop rock tracks make me cringe. Rated
R is a masterpiece
sountrack off my Life QOTSA I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!
Is it still?
They have come a long way, technically and "sound-wise", but this song is still great. If it was recorded now it would stand up.
Yeah, I remember! I will write it on the info right up. I thought he wrote only the riff
you are not alone
Drums reminds me about Bela Lugosi's dead by Bauhaus...anyway..awesome song.
I can hear why Josh changed it up so much...I like this one better but it sounds like it came straight from a Kyuss album.
@desertblitzkrieg
no problem x)
Don't plan on marrying me
I'll get you what you need
Not too far to go on
Not too far to bleed
You can ask to take it easy on you
Be careful what you wish for
Ooh yeah
Ooh yeah
Ooh yeah
And I could
Better put your ashes on you baby
I'll get you what you need
Not too far to go on
Not too far to bleed
Not too far to bleed
Not too far to bleed
perhaps that's because early QOTSA was basically Kyuss minus John Garcia?!
Tripy
yeah that's what I thought too
desert sessions 5/6 and 6 on "10..... after Kyuss before Gamma Ray an QOTSA.....
I'd really LOVE to find this song to download. Does anyone know where I can find it?
sick shit i really like it.
