Unfortunately, because Peter is not of royal blood, their children would never be able to inherent a royal title (this was long before Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the rules towards royal marriage were much stricter then). Margaret did not want that and eventually broke up with Peter. Even Peter admitted in his memoir that Margaret loved being a Princess more then she loved him.

Queen Mary was German, Queen Alexandra was Danish and German, Prince Albert was German, Queen Victoria’s mother was German AND the aunt of Prince Albert, and all of the Hanoverians before them married Germans. Basically the entire family is German until you get to George I’s grandmother who was the daughter of King James I who was Scottish and English. Utterly ridiculous and hypocritical.

I don't buy that Elizabeth EVER swept Phillip off his feet. His uncle, the ambitious Louis Mountbatten, pushed Phillip into it, I think. For Elizabeth, she always knew she was destined to marry a royal and Phillip was probably better looking than most. They made the marriage work and it can be called a success. At least it lasted a lifetime and they seemed to give each other room to indulge in their own passions while respecting what they represented to the world.

@@GodisMyNo1D You may be right. We will never know, but I DO believe that Mountbatten was a scheming man who pushed his own family's welfare when he could. Nothing wrong with that. There was a story years ago that he hosted a party in which he toasted the "House of Mountbatten" as the new ruling family of the UK. Churchil put a stop to it. Philip was a handsome young man in the style of the day and the Queen may well have been totally "in love" with him. He on the other hand, probably found her to be tolerant, good company, well connected, and very pretty in comparison to many others.
I don’t think she really needed to impress him, hello she was the next Queen of England! Who didn’t want to marry her c’mon, and with all respect for Prince Phillip I think he also wanted the power he could get by marrying the Queen to be.
First of all we know that this was more of a carefully orchestrated marriage. Phil thought that he would be King but was denied. Other sources said that she met him as early as 1934, but she allegedly fell in love with him in 1939 (She was 13 while he 17 by the way). Anyways I just don't see what's so special about them besides the fact that they were born into money. I'm pretty sure there's millions of other people who could do their "job" as well if not better. They're simply humans with some money and privilege that's founded by centuries of killing, stealing, and slavery of other peoples.
