Been thinking about going from tko to a tkx for a good while. No problems with tko though. Just been wanting to turn up the the power a good bit on my procharged setup so been thinking maybe would be a good idea. Nah. That steeda tri ax aluminum handle broke on me at the bottom of the threads years ago . Went back to a steel handle on the same shifter
My t5 is crying in a turbo 5.0 wagon qt 3700 pnds. But still shifting good. Just waiting for input shaft to give out. Then save for a tkx
After seeing this video, I will not buy a TKX. Lol
They shift really good 🤷🏼♂️
I've been going back and forth between the TKX and a G101A for a 66 Nova project. LS7 441 NA. The G101A is the best choice for drag racing, but it is tough to give up that overdrive. I was leaning TKX, but now I'm not sure.
lol I feel the same! I want overdrive for drag and drive events
Hell yeah man you got my 96 camry coupe on video
Hell yeah 🤘🏻
Just found your channel. I’m considering a TKX. Did your TKX have the cryogenic gear treatment? They are supposed to handle 985 ft/lbs with the upgrade. It’s like $1000 extra.
It had everything. Spent a ton of money on it.
Ever consider the GR3650 from GForce? I have not heard too much about it but GForce claims it is stronger than the magnum
I talked to them and they say not to do many street miles with those 🤷🏼♂️
Ever thought about running slicks instead of the radials?
Yeah, definitely thought about it. Most the classes I run requires a radial tho
So no more tkx for this car ? Damn your making me not purchase it tomorrow lol . Would you recommend the tko 600 then ? I’m just a h/c/I with a blower 2.87 pulley . Tkx really shifts better ?
TKX is the best shifting tremec I’ve ever used. I think the TKX would be good for up to 500-600 ft lbs of torque…
@@BMF_Garage appreciate the response man !
No problem!
Damn I’m glad I dont kill Tremecs like you that has got to be getting expensive. Just make sure no matter what you make it to Rocky Mountain and bring the TKO as a back up and if you don’t mind me asking what clutch are you using in that car because damn that thing grabs good too good
I run a clutch slipper on the clutch pedal and use a McLeod rxt twin disc clutch setup
@@BMF_Garage That’s fantastic news I’m just changing my clutch this winter from a single disk to a twin and I was thinking I might regret my choice and wish I had bought what you got but I already do so thanks for letting me know and now I’m damn excited to get that clutch in
I love the twin disc. If my transmission gears weren’t made of glass, it would work pretty awesome
Good luck with the Steeda parts. I knew Dario when he was just starting out. His stuff was good back in the day but he's gotten slack on quality lately
It seems like a good part 🤷🏼♂️ definitely better than the wire out one that’s on there.
@@BMF_Garage I hope so. It looks like a good part. I haven't seen him in 27 years. That thing looks like a pro 5.0 clone. His 2nd generation shifters had some issues.
@@billmadison2032 hopefully this one gets it done for me 🤘🏻
@@BMF_Garage I sure hope so. I was converting my car to an auto when my son came. So car had to be shelved
That is terrible here in Australia $7000 for tx
Did you ever figure out what broke on the tkx this time?
Never opened it up. Sending it to tremec
That sucks man. I'd heard such good things about the TKX before I bought one. I'm at a lot less horse power than you, hopefully mine lives for a few years.
I really don’t feel like I’m making that much power… most I saw on the dyno was 650 Hp at 18 psi… I’m launching at 3500rpm at 2psi…
I haven't got mine on the track since I've put it in. I sure like the way it shifts on the street. I'm bolting the slicks on for Sturgis, so we'll see what happens. I did buy a winch so I can get it on the trailer just in case😂
🤣🤣🤣 good plan. I’m bringing my winch with also!
@@BMF_Garage what are the details on your engine, heads, cam, intake? I’m putting a 347 together that I expect to make about 1k near 20lbs of boost.
Stock block 414w stroker. Forged crank, rods and pistons. Girdle. Blueprint engines 205cc cylinder heads. Trick flow stage 2 cam. Truck flow box r intake. 76mm turbo.
Needs more cam, cylinder head and turbo. All pretty small for the cubes I’m running but its all I could afford at the moment.
Man you stick shift guys are hard on stuff :P
🤣🤣 I didn’t even leave hard!!
@@BMF_Garage 😀
Are you on a drag radial
Yeah. Mickey Thompson et street r
@@BMF_Garage they are trans killers lol
What do you run for tires?
Mickey Thompson et street R
@@BMF_Garage the bias ply version?
@@noodlessmith1796 I don’t know if it’s bias ply or not… it’s the et street R… there’s only one option
There is a radial and bias ply option for the et street r
That’s news to me lol. I go to summit, search for et street r and select my size 🤷🏼♂️
That sucks, The magnum might be the only synchronized manual that will hold up in a heavy car like that with out going to a long style clutch.
Yeah, you’re probably right
Heavy car lol at 3,000lbs race weight thats still pretty light vs a new s550 or s197
I’m 3470 with me in it. Less weight but same power rating as the trans I just destroyed
@@BMF_Garage god damn your car needs to go on a diet . Lol
@@boostedsaleen6146 yes it does. T top car doesn’t help. Trying to get a fiberglass panel made to replace them. There really isn’t a ton I can remove at this point… power windows and locks… HVAC box… tube front end… fiberglass hatch… all it takes is time and money 🤣
Boi the tkx is only rated for 600 ft lbs of torque, you were just asking for it with a car that powerful on a drag strip no less
Launching at 3500 rpm at 2psi of boost… it makes 650hp at 18 psi…. You do the math… it didn’t even get to 5 psi before it broke.
I’ve been launching harder on my tko 500 for longer with zero issues…
@@BMF_Garage that thing popped a wheelie with only 650 horse?
@@MRMechanicRC yes it did. I was pulling the wheels running 13s in this car
@@BMF_Garage jeez, how much does it weigh? This is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos and when I heard the car and saw that thing come up I coulda sworn it had 1000hp or so
Damn that really blows
Well… we know the TKX is definitely made of materials worse than the tko now 🤣
I got a tr6060 out of a Gt 500. And it’s for sale
Nice… don’t know anything about those… what does it need to fit in a fox behind a Windsor? How much?
@@BMF_Garage not sure what’s needed to do the swap. It has 16,000 miles and looking for $2,500.
Thanks for the offer but I need something that will handle double that power.
It will 1000hp 4000lb cars running em lol
I don’t see them doing 1.2 60’ times @ 4000 lbs. guidos normal is 1.45 ish and Bills Fairlane about the same but neither are running a STOCK TKX. Ones a t56 and the other is a g101a. Give me someone else that’s put hundreds of passes at 1.2 60’ on a bone stock TKX with no issues.
Go t56
Probably not. For one that will handle the power I’ll be making next year it’s almost 12 grand
@@BMF_Garage ufff I hear you brotha that’s expensive. I got the tko600 right now and so far so good but I’m only making 10lbs on a supercharged 302. Good luck 💪🏼
@@mike4fo thanks 🙏 I’m putting my tko500 back in for now lol it’s never let me down!
Glad I didn't buy one man
They aren’t what I was expecting….
@@BMF_Garage yeah I see brutal and neo mustangs transmissions for the TKX and they're saying that they're great and this was like 6 months ago so I re googled again broken tkx and sure enough so I had to make sure I did my research first and I'm glad I did thanks for posting this up
Yeah I even paid extra for one of them to get built to supposedly handle 1000 ft lbs and that one broke bad…. I’m less than impressed…. One of the best shifting transmissions I’ve even used, but not any stronger than a tko…
Time to go auto
Well, it’ll be time when I save 8-10k up. For now it’s time to eek by on the tko.
@@BMF_Garage just have your boy Mike A fix one up for ya. Can’t imagine it would be that expensive. In fact he’s not even using his at the moment. Just borrow it for a little while.
@@mandagrath 🤣 I already asked to buy his. He said no way. I’m working on getting something…. Just takes time buddy
