  • Social competence is about getting along with others. For students it is the ability to work together, and possess social and emotional well being in the classroom. As a teacher we can help develop this in young people through effective classroom management and providing a positive and engaging learning environment. There are five key ideas discussed: 1. Classroom setting 2. Know your learners (relationships) 3. Lesson planning and preparation 4. Learning to collaborate (roles/groups) 5. Having high expectations for all students.
