your most welcome Mumi......not only does your cover capture the mood and feel of the original song, but....your use of hand pans is in the truest Trent Reznor tradition? as a musician and composer, Trent always looked for new and different sonic ways of expression and that is certainly the case here. I have watched may of your videos and, as a musician myself, I'm ashamed to say that I had never heard of hand pans before? they have an exquisite tone, quite haunting and beautiful.

I have listened to this wondrous piece of art far too many times to continue NOT commenting. The way you cover the nuances of this song, a song that means so much to so many, shows respect to and total understanding of the original. This classic is multi layered in context and content and you do not miss a single beat. A perfect example is when it is seemingly tapering towards a climax but is,in fact, building up to a very powerful statement. It's so impressive that not one bit of this is lost in your rendition. I thank you for a truly magnificent alternative to one of the best songs ever written. Don't ever stop what you're doing.

As a lifelong fan of Nine Inch Nails and someone who loves space drums, this video seemed like it was going to be a longshot at first. After the first few taps I realized I was in for a ride. I love how the voice was muted for the first 4 minutes of the video and then it just comes through clearly in that last minute. Shivers everywhere. Incredible rendition of a great piece. As a huge fan of NIN I'd absolutely love to hear "The Great Below" or "Echoplex" or "Hurt" -- though all three would prove to be tremendously difficult to do on a space drum. Mumi, I just have to let you know, I heard this for the first time on my phone, thought it was great. I listened to it again in my car with a great stereo cranked up, pre-dawn, on an empty freeway... I was brought completely to tears. What an incredible experience. I listened to it right after the original and I like this better even than Nine Inch Nails performing it. I recommend to anyone hearing this for the first time to either have a good set of headphones or an good stereo, it is worth it.

Speachless! This is one of my favorite songs of NIN. You really stripped this song and make it again. Such a powerfull balad and the music composition... I can´t even describe what I feel, overwhelming. Thank you.
The thing I always loved about this track is that I never took Trent's philosophical speculation literally - that is I never thought of him asking whether we are all actually in a dream or simulation or whatever (though this is still a valid interpretation), with or without the question of solipsism attached to it. The way I think of it is about questioning the dogma of your values and ontological beliefs and whether your concept of truth even aligns with what is actually real or not (maybe you're wrong about everything, hence living in a "dream" in a figurative sense) - prompting an entire revision to the way one thinks about the world. Definitely pushed me towards philosophy when I listened to it in high school. I do also recall interpreting the whole album as a kind of coming to terms with human evolution and humbling oneself through all of what that entails when you actually take it seriously (hence the "animal in the cage", probably a chimp or bonobo, realizing we aren't fundamentally different and how arbitrary it is to some extent that we aren't in the cage ourselves)... I think the lyrics of many With Teeth tracks mixed with the live visuals (during the With Teeth tour) consistently hinted at that as a theme. SEE: ruclips.net/video/9_dgIfz876A/видео.html Not the best NIN album, but possibly the deepest. Still hosts a few of my favorite NIN tracks (RWIB being one of them), but ironically none of them are the singles from it.
My original interpretation was actually a lot more along the lines of yours. I thought it was more about taking a critical look at the way that you see the yourself and the world and considering the possibility that you're wrong about all of it. Almost everyone finds themselves afraid to see...
Yuup thats pretty much the point i guess. But whats even the difference between being wrong in your whole worldview or about the existence at all. The consequence is the same. In both cases u lived and decided in cause of a lie.
When Trent first started writing the album that would become With Teeth, he was basing much of the lyrics on The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin. I think this song is definitely one where that influence stuck around.
This seems really simple to me. It's about being on display and coming to terms with what he's become. An icon, musician, etc. "What side of the glass you are on". Is he seeing the animals or is he the animal. The nail in this coffin is the crowd cheering on the third verse in the original.
I think that's a very fair reading of it. The song seems to be about critical self reflection, so I don't think the solipsism is really meant be the position he's staking. It's hard for me not to reading this album on the following one as apolitical given the time in which they appeared. There was a lot of America looking at itself at the time and deciding what was going to be.
I can’t believe this many people were not just willing but inspired to take part in this, from a song that’s so seemingly forgettable, innocuous, understated and, underrated to so many fans. Well fucking done.
Hands down the best cover I've heard of this song. Those handpans work so well with this song it's just amazing. Also the video was very enjoyable to watch. Kudos to everyone involved!
It takes allot for a cover to move me like this one did. Thank you for doing so much justice to this song. The video itself with the choreography it's absolutely breathtaking.
I completely understand. This song has always hurt deep inside since the first time I've heard it. I've been through a great many things and moved from one addiction to the next since then and I've finally at this point come to a couple months shy of 4 years sober. It struck me as almost unbelievable to look back and count those years just now... Point is, this song has taken on many meanings over this time and it brings me to tears almost every time. I always interpreted the last lines as if you could look right through the cracks would you give yourself - or - find yourself afraid to see? And sometimes it's been one and sometimes the other.
@@Steam_Engenius This is a beautiful rendition. I vividly remember the first time I heard the original. I was deep in the horrible stages of opiate addiction. I feel the song shows through words and sound how beautiful a sober life can be when you TRULY decide to exit the illusion of addiction. The music and overall tone and sound PERFECTLY mimicks the message of the lyrics. The idea of being in a distorted illusion and then entering a clear reality. When I was sick I remember feeling how the synthetic bass repeatedly bobbing up and down methodically was like the mechanical cycle my life had become. Wake up feeling dirty and sick, score drugs, get high, wake up sick, and repeat. The only semblance of anything remotely good in my life was the vauge notion in the back of my mind that one day I'd stop. Eventually something has to happen. However it may happen. As scary as that thought was. Like the little piano always above the cycle singing a lullaby that was both comforting and vaugly haunting. And the song sounding distorted, warped, and murky was just like the psychology and emotional space of deep addiction: it felt small, muffled, dirty, confined, and damaged. But I distinctly remember that moment when Trent sang "You could live in this illusion, you could choose to believe..." then slowly the sound of the music seemed to emerge from the "illusion" as the dirty, muffled effect slowly faded back and emerged into an open and crystal clear sounding panorama as bright as sunlight. The sounds of clapping and cheering erupted... Man, I have never been so viscerally and emotionally moved by a single song in my life. It gives me the hope to stay clean and forever away from the "illusion" and as I hope it continues to do for you as well my friend. Peace. ✌🏼
Quite amazing! I like someone's comment comparing it to hearing the original the first time and getting goose bumps. I had a pretty intense emotional response.
I watch this almost every day, often several times a day, since I discovered it a few weeks ago, and truly wish I had the words for what this invokes in me. This is *literature.* My body knows it, too, as it covers itself in chills and involuntary tears come to my eyes, especially at the start of the dance that begins with a single dancer. I find the first dancer to be so expressive in the simultaneous boldness and simplicity of his movements. You tell a *story* with this video, and every time I watch it, I am trying to puzzle it out. I absolutely *love* this. You are talented. You are practiced. You are skilled. Thank you to each person who lent a hand in creating this video. It is absolute literature, and absolute art.
Your words melted our hearts. We were reading your words while in Jacky's studio, working on the next cover and you gave us some extra motivation. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
This is really such an amazing cover. So creative, so "your-own", and like right on the money in terms of how the instrumentation and your voice are making the song work. And the video is just a crazy big cherry right on top. This is one of my favorite NIN songs, specifically because of the sonic transition near the end and you absolutely NAILED that part. Thanks for making this music :)
I don't know, how often I've listened to the within the last weeks. Found it probably when it was new and almost forgot about it, but a few months ago the algorithm reminded me. Since then I listen to it all the time. I was a bit disappointed, not to find it on Spotify, but damn, I really love your version of this classic. I get goose bumps, everytime I reach the point where your voice changes from this light distortion to your pure clear voice. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Just imagine all the really important things you don't know! It's not something very unique you just like it so use Goggle search by genre, covers etc... Put forth the effort instead of whining and complaining! RUclips recommendations are horrible especially with all that money you're paying them! This is unacceptable YT should get it right since they can read your mind!
This is the first of your stuff I found, honestly expected it to be bad cause of how perfect the original is but well, currently watching like everything youve ever done. Excellent work
This is absolutely the kind of work of art I needed to find at 3am... sent chills all up and down my spine, my arms, everywhere. As a lifelong NIN fan... thank you for this. It's such a beautiful rendition. And what an amazing deep voice!
This is stunning. It’s amazing when people can breath a new life into a song which already seemed so totally anchored in another place and time. The version you made absolutely needed to exist!
This cover gives me chills. There's just something about the clarity of the pan drums, the raw, grungy electronics, coupled with the free style of bodies slowly descending into chaos... And then the crescendo hits at the darket moment. Mumi's voice rises above it all, like she's parting the darkest clouds away and leaves you with hope. Everything about this music+video comes together beautifully. I wish Jacky 0 & Mumi collaborated more and did this kind of music again.
The contrast with the analog and electronics is perfect with the text. It is the cracks in our illusion of self. I would love to hear more of you both, the raw and the beautiful. I listen at least once a week, more even than the original, because somehow you nailed it.
@@MumiHandpan no prob just here before you get to famous to react to the comments :D But now do another! I looked at Dissonance, but only the start is something you could try, the rest is too much rock. You can try nZRVLpqMQtA yourself with the voice distortion you used here, or Something I Can Never Have from NiN... but really, do another I really love the contrast!
God this is so good. I'd never even seen/heard of that instrument before but it's perfect for this that's for sure. Also the part where all the people stop running and everything becomes clear is a really cool recreation of how the song clears up in the real version.
@@MumiHandpan Hi Mumi, I was just dropping by to say that I've been obsessed with steel drums (tongue drums, Rav Vasts and especially handpans) for what feels like forever now, and I was trying to figure out exactly when I got a name for the instrument that I love so much, and even though I had heard it before this and loved it, this must have been when I figured out what they were specifically (only 3 years ago! Like I said feels like this instrument has been in my head forever). Anyway I will probably be purchasing one before the year is out and just wanted to let you know that in a way my journey began here with this video, so thank you so much. - Josh

Not the best NIN album, but possibly the deepest.
Oh dear lord. Can I like this video more than once? I love your own original personal spin on this great track.
Thank you so much!
Everything about this gave me legit goosebumps! What an epic cover and I really enjoyed the video, it was an awesome experience!
Thank you so much for your kind words and the appreciation!
❤️🙏
How is it possible that you recreate an already perfect masterpiece of a song into something that is even better? Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
As a big NIN this is freaking AMAZING...the music and the video. I think Trent will approve. Love how the voice goes clear at the end.
Thank you so much! ❤️🙏🏻
That’s just beautiful. A song that doesn’t get anywhere the attention it deserves. Thanks for doing it justice
Absolutely stunning cover of one of my favorite songs. So well done. Bravo!
It takes allot for a cover to move me like this one did. Thank you for doing so much justice to this song. The video itself with the choreography it's absolutely breathtaking.
Thank you so much! ✨
As a person who has struggled with addiction, this song always brings me to tears.
It's indeed so powerful! Be strong man! I wish you all the best!
Peace. ✌🏼
As a lifelong nin fan I have to say...my soul must say...this is beautifully-disastrous.
Disastrous is a great word for it
Beautiful vocals and great work by the sound engineering guy! Powerful cover!
Thank you 🙏🏻❤️
By far one of my favourite covers. Very well done. I keep coming back to this one.
Thank you so much!
Quite amazing! I like someone's comment comparing it to hearing the original the first time and getting goose bumps. I had a pretty intense emotional response.
Thank you!!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
@@MumiHandpan I'm both honored and delighted for you all. If you've any doubts, your work is worthy and worth it. ❤️
If Björk and Trent Reznor had a baby, this would be their child.
maybe we're their illegitimate children
lol cute idea
I THINK SO
Ohhh wow i didn't think of that, your right
ehehehehehe
Much love from us! You're right, we should put it on Spotify! We're gonna work on that!
@@MumiHandpan thank you so much. Carry on that great work.
Greetings and much love from Germany
@@MumiHandpan It's still not there :(
I don't understand, for years RUclips recommends crap videos. This is brilliant! I love it, why am I finding out about this now. full respect
🙏🏻🙏🏻
I really don’t understand how the RUclips algorithm works. I’ll just randomly get suggested videos from 3 years ago like this one
@@zachiswayposi1 😂
Just imagine all the really important things you don't know! It's not something very unique you just like it so use Goggle search by genre, covers etc... Put forth the effort instead of whining and complaining! RUclips recommendations are horrible especially with all that money you're paying them! This is unacceptable YT should get it right since they can read your mind!
This is the first of your stuff I found, honestly expected it to be bad cause of how perfect the original is but well, currently watching like everything youve ever done. Excellent work
Levia Music thank you so much! ❤❤❤❤
My favorite NIN song 🖤🖤🖤 Didn't know this song could be anymore powerful
Thank you so much, this kind of feedbacks, coming from NIN fans and even more from people who love this song, means the world to us.
🙏🏻
@@MumiHandpan You're welcome. You deserve any and all praise given to you.
Again. Blown away!!! This is art and creation at its finest!! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world!!!
This is absolutely the kind of work of art I needed to find at 3am... sent chills all up and down my spine, my arms, everywhere. As a lifelong NIN fan... thank you for this. It's such a beautiful rendition. And what an amazing deep voice!
Thank you so much, reading words like yours from NIN fans and from people who love this song is priceless! ❤️🙏🏻
That was amazing! I was not expecting that. Beautiful performance.
The sound is good and it is a good cover. Having said that, the real beauty of the video is the way it was done in one shot. Stunning.
They all did a great job, it has been great to see them working!
Sweet Mother of God, this cover is transcendental... heart wrenching... addictive. Love you guys! Well done!
Thank you so much for your words, for real!
I wish Jacky 0 & Mumi collaborated more and did this kind of music again.
loved it... unique composition..
it was my favorite piece from Reznor, and now I think you did a masterpiece.
Mohammad Javad wow this means A LOT if it's your favourite one. Thank you so much
I can't stop listening to it, it's in an infinite loop . 😱
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Go to the actual song song by nine inch nails. It’s way fucking better.
Im just now hearing this!? Cant wait to crawl out from under my rock to listen to more music from the both of you
Thank you so much! We have an EP on Spotify, called Circle, but we're gonna work on our new album and covers as well!
same
The contrast with the analog and electronics is perfect with the text. It is the cracks in our illusion of self. I would love to hear more of you both, the raw and the beautiful. I listen at least once a week, more even than the original, because somehow you nailed it.
Thank you so much for your words and for appreciating our version. 🙏🏻✨
Wonderful song. Great tribute, great performance.
Thanks!
@@MumiHandpan 🎶🤝🎶
God this is so good. I'd never even seen/heard of that instrument before but it's perfect for this that's for sure. Also the part where all the people stop running and everything becomes clear is a really cool recreation of how the song clears up in the real version.
TheRoflstranger thank you so much!!!!!! The instrument is called handpan!
- Josh
@@TheRoflstranger this is awesome! You'll love it and you'll see there is a great community around these instruments. They are also instruments very intuitive to play at first, and this pushes people to play a lot and make progresses quite quickly.
Also, if you'll ever want a handpan I am a handpan maker (I love playing them, but my job is making and tuning them!). For anything you can contact us on www.elaiahandpans.com or facebook.com/elaiahandpans of instagram @elaiahandpans 😊
Hugs ✨🙏🏻
I’m so glad I came across this video and discovered you. Amazing cover! goosebumps all over my body.
🙏🏻
Prob one of the best things I could have stumbled upon. Good job 10/10
Alex Sauceda thank you so much!!!!
This is so good, brought tears to my eyes. The steel drum works so well for this song
Thank you!
Amazing! A close friend of mine, a die hard NIN fan, passed away last year around this time. So this hits home. May his soul rest in peace. Love your work!
Been a NIN fan for almost 20 years and never thought of hang drums, but damn that's on point.
Right?!
gives me chills...absolutely beautiful and breathtaking...goes straight to my soul. Keep it! Your beautiful :)
Elly Papp 😍😊
One of the most beautiful and creative thing i found. Some faith in humanity restored.
BlackkkSunrise thank you so much
Holy mother of God, this cover was incredible.
Blown away! Ultra-tasteful, beautiful treatment here, both the video & sound-wise. (+ Kind of addicted to the sound of those handpans now!)
Thanks so much!
awesome. I love this so much. I listen to it multiple times a day. that was amazing! to say the least.
I'm a lifelong NIN fan and this gives me chills more than the original.

Have to agree with everyone else thats written here. What a stunning sound. Just gorgeous. You have done amazing justice to one of my favourite songs!
Honestly, I like this more than the original. Thank you!
Thank you!!
2 years old and I'm just seeing this now? You need to do more covers because this was one of the best of this song.
Thank you so much! A new one is gonna come soon!
Or do some original stuff.
Bloody brilliant!!!

Fantastic cover of Right Were it Belongs. This track has a special place in my life and you really did it some symbolic justice in your cover and performance. Thanks for this
wondrous, epic, massive!! Respect!!!

I honestly love this NIN cover so much. Perhaps at number 2 after Jihnny Cash in my top 5 NIN covers toplist. Bravo..

Thank you!!
Yeah true that.
Way to take an already great track and really put your own spin and style into it. Hauntingly lovely work.

Beautiful! Thank you. Makes me so happy to hear this song again, restructured and with dancers too. Love your voice, and the programming was intense.
