This has always been on my list of desserts to try... NEVER HAD ONE! Now, I think I'm going to give this a shot at making one. Might even do the baking part in my BBQ.

oh it will eventually melt but its frozen so it takes awhile to thaw out so eat within 3-4 hours out...
totally, a lot of icecream but perfect for a bunch a friends it was gone before you knew it:) xoxo
yea, especially if it's a really hot day!! keep it in the freezer right before you flame it:) xoxo

This cake is no fail, it was one of my favorites yet, and I am not an ice-cream lover..Yes, ice-cream melts especially during the Forth of July when its hot outside and your freezer is full of hamburgers and booze.. not much room for a huge ice-cream cake to sit..LOL ---so you eat it as fast as you can:)

yes on broil in your oven place it there for 1 -3 mins till brown:)

That's how meringue is done, like if you're making a pie, you bake the pie part first then top it off with meringue and only bake it until the meringue is browned
This looks delish! I've never had Baked Alaska but now I'll have to try it! Guess I can make it with any ice cream? Salted Caramel would be yummy

this is a baked Alaska, I prefer a bombe Alaska, that is drowned in alcohol and then set on fire and served on fire :D

Sorry, but, that looked absolutely Disgusting and in all honestly you ruined a perfectly good traditional desert.
The "Flaming" was way over the top too, and far too much, in fact it was pretty much Burnt.
Why didn't you just use a flan base and for the finale just pop it in the oven to make it more uniform, and then flambé if necessary?

What do you mean
Kind of a fail... The whole point of a baked Alaska is that when you bake it the ice cream doesn't melt. That is from the insulation of the meringue. And you have to put cake around the icecream once it's frozen THEN put the meringue.
