I saved up and bought a gorgeous 7x9 mm oval rhodolite garnet ring. I've always wanted a ruby, but didn't have tens of thousands of dollars to spend to get a quality stone. Everything commercially available in my price range was opaque and milky looking, not what I wanted at all. The garnet I ended up choosing is almost purple and shows intense flashes of fuchsia inside. I cant stop staring at it, lol.
Really enjoy your videos. Garnet is one of my favorites of all gems. One because of it being my birth stone and then learning how many different types and colors there are. Fascinating gemstone.
I am surprised when people mention where almandine is found but fail to mention Austria..in fact if you look up Garnet Gate Lake in Millstatter See in Carinthia you will find a mountain that is just so full of garnet that it is actually hundreds of thousands of them in the rocks and even pathways walking to the Garnet Gate at the top of the mountain...literally TONS of garnets were used in the making of the pillars for the gate itself..it was mined at the foot of the mountain and made into the famous Bohemian Garnet..you should have a look at this and if ever in Austria IMO it is a MUST see and you can easily find garnets everywhere on the ground surface. Amazing place but people always fail to mention it. If you like garnets this is a must visit IMO.
Normally I am not into gemstones and am interested in geology, however I just found a granite erratic with garnets so I wanted to learn more about these minerals.
Paul, I am enjoying your course immensely. However, learning about these wonderful gems makes me want to own a few. My problem is, I have no idea where to go to get quality stones at affordable prices. Could you maybe give me, or all of us, some ideas concerning where and how to shop for these beauties? Thanks for all your work, it is appreciated.
Hi Paul, I am learning so much from your gemstone academy lessons. Does the cut of a gem stone add to the value of a gem? For instance, if I were to purchase a tanzanite ring, would a faceted cut be more expensive than a cabochon cut? Thank you!! Glenna from Orlando
I have two pieces of garnet both of which are "very dark" I don't know if that is because they are over 100 years old and darkness is because of aging???? How can I clean this ring and pin and not damage the stones
I have a small crystal, but I can't identify it. It's a deep red, it's see through, when you look through it it has what looks like splashes inside, but when you shine a light on it, it has a shimmer like a lepidolite....do you have any idea please? I can send a picture if that helps. Many Thanks
Hi Yuri, thanks for the input. Look on the bright side. It was worth every penny you spent on the lesson. Oh wait, you didn't spend anything on the lesson. It was free. You're welcome!

That's awesome. I have been the biggest proponent of garnet for 20 years. Still an incredibly undervalued gemstone!
Very informative videos. I got a good knowledge on Mineral Garnets. Thank you. Please make videos on Synthetic Garnets also.

If garnet is your birth stone, can a birth stone be more specific within the garnet family? Like almandine? For any individual person so to say...

Where is this business in Zambia and how much the price pay killogr am?
Can you link the Garnet 101 episode?
Garnet is January's gemstone, it's not specific to astrology. February is amethyst. If you're born in January, then your gemstone is garnet.
nice
