When we were visiting a small gem & artisan made jewelry store last year in Lancaster PA, I purchased some very small and raw pieces of Chrysocolla…I think that’s what it was. It reminded me of turquoise, which is why I was drawn to it. But really, the blue was even more vivid than what I’ve seen in turquoise, though it was pretty chalky, but gorgeous. I would love to see it in some jewelry.
Thanks for all your great info….as a reseller of vintage collectibles and vintage fashion jewelry, I sometimes come across some real stuff. I really want to learn more about gemstones and the “pretend” jewelry too so I will know what I’m looking at, for buying or selling. Thanks!
Paul! It's so great to see you online here. I've been following you since the QVC days and Judy also. I wish she'd stayed with JTV. She brought a level of class and style in the Stratify Collection that previously never existed. My mom adores the rose gold floral rhodolite, chrome diopside and ethiopian floral pendant and ring but can't find any earrings anywhere to match. I'm excited to view all the lessons you post. As a GIA grad, I'm very much a gem snob and guides like yourself, refine my selectiveness.
Wow this was a great lesson , a quick question what are the 3 best places to know to get Turquoise from , or should I say countries that have the best Turquoise, Your lessons are awesomeness for this collector !! a have a great weekend Judy and Paul !!!
Tommy, you ask awesome questions-that's I why I read some of them at the beginning of the lessons. The world's biggest producer of turquoise is China. That said, most experts will agree that the USA has the best quality overall than anywhere else. KIngman continues to be an important source (and it is easily accessible if you wanted to arrange a visit). They won't let you back where the mining takes place, but they have a storefront right on the property just north of the town of Kingman. Lots of great turquoise throughout Nevada as well as Arizona and Colorado.
P.S. Forget to mention you must go to Sunwest Silver in downtown Albuquerque. I mentioned it on the lesson. It is Ernie Montoya. He is awesome and the store is spectacular. Lots of collectors items as well as Native American hand made jewelry.
@@pauldeasygemstones thanks so much again Paul and sunset silver is on the list , with the way the world is now all our travel is on hold , but at least we have a it all planned and written out in a vacation planner ,
Hi new subbie, can u plz say if u dont see even a speck of copper in the piece such as in the all blue sleeping beauty but thata a true turqoiuse correct?
The price of real unconstituted turquoise is out of this world, It seems that if someone can produce a copy that it takes an expert to tell the difference more power to them! Purity only benefits the mine owners!
Thanks, James. It would be impossible for you to be stupid. After all, your were smart enough to watch my videos! On a serious note, I would like to accommodate your request in the future. For now, remember that there would be no turquoise without copper. Turquoise it a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminum. If there is no copper, it is not a turquoise it is a veriscite. Ergo, it is possible to have copper matrix in a turquoise stone. That said, there have been other turquoise products that had bronze in turquoise. My friend Marty Colbaugh who is the leaseholder of the Kingman turquoise mine, had a compressed stabilized and dyed turquoise with bronze in it. Was it natural? No. But as long as you disclose the treatments (which I always do), it is fine! Hope this helps!
Great question, Jane. Most people I have spoken to-even in the jewelry business get this one wrong. And there are a lot of people who try to get howlite or calcite and use some sort of black dye. None of that is legit. Most of the White Buffalo I have dealt with is from Nevada, and is calcite and quartz. which can morph into dolomite. With its high silica content (quartz), it is much harder than howlite
if you scracht a real turquoise, it will have so sort of white powdery dust coming off? i did the test with acetona, and yes, did not came any painting on the cotton. when i scratched it, some powder came off. and i know is not plastic, because i burned already and didnt burn. thanks, best wishes.
never got excited about turquoise because it's mainly plastic and or fake never really saw that many good pieces plus even the fake crap is expensive now and it's like whatever
I happen to love turquoise and have enjoyed visiting many turquoise mines. The good news is, you know it is not your cup of tea and there are many other different gems in the world are available, and it is a very personal choice!
Sounds like you are a big fan! All joking aside,, sounds like you need to find a new channel to follow. It could be worse. I could have charge you by the word. But I didn't, so you got off easy.
This would be good if you kept it simple...just wanted to know how to tell if turquoise is real...not a college course in gemmology...thanks anyway. ...I'm 15 min. Into this...now just confused...
Sorry you feel my lessons aren’t for you. Truth is, just wanting to “if turquoise is real” isn’t that simple-especially when the GIA (gemological institute of America discourages making an identification simply by looking at a gem. At any rate, I’m sure you can find a RUclips gem channel more to your liking
Please don't ask to subscribe at the start of the video. How do I know if I like your video if I haven't watched it yet. Ask at the end. We all know to subscribe if we like the vid. I just had to say it.
Hi Simone, Thanks for your input. I am a 61 years old and a relatively new you tuber. Most of my subscribers are of a similar generation. The truth is, most of them don't know how to subscribe or they are afraid to subscribe because they think it will cost them something to subscribe. It is important to me to continue to make my lessons free to anybody who wants to watch them. By getting more subscribers (which is working for me by asking for them), I can make a small amount of money from those ads so my content remains free. Furthermore, when you look at the analytics, the average view time is less than the actual length of the videos. That means if you only ask for subscribers at the end, it is a futile and failing business model. If it bothers you so much to spend 7 to 10 seconds of my asking people to subscribe at the beginning, then my all means don't subscribe and don't watch my videos. I promise I won't be offended. P.S. I noticed you have 3 subscribers. Maybe you want more or maybe you don't. But if you do, I would recommend you ask for people to subscribe.
Thank you Paul for this lesson turquoise... I just got a turquoise bracelet gift today .. is useful info to me
Glad you enjoyed it. Turquoise is still one of my all time favorites!

I do love chrysocolla, and have sold it on shopping channels in the past. It is similar to turquoise, and is usually stabilized just like turquoise

I suggest that you show the gems longer. They are only up for 1-2 seconds. It is good to see more of them and less of the speaker.
New subscriber! July 2021.
Love your presentation but also your vast knowledge and experiences.
Thanks 🙏 Shaun
aloha from Hawai''i braddah.. mahalo for the info! u r the first gemstone-channel that i have decided to follow - i like the vibe *shaka*
Another informative lesson!! The purple-colored turquoise is certainly a fun color!!
Yes it is. Still one of the top selling items I had at shopnbc years ago
Спасибо, замечательная лекция! Привет из Крыма!
the diamonds ice because it feels cold! that a great tip, the lip test.
I loved my lesson with turquoise! Great job, Paul. I know how well you described gems and their process from ShopNBC days. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the lesson. I am a Turquoise lover in the Northeast where it is difficult to find real turquoise!
thank you ❤
Very informative - thank you!
Can i send you some pitchures of kimberlite. What i think is ? I would apreciate.

So many sellers have no idea what they are actually selling. So many sellers have dyed howlite and honestly think it is turquoise.
I would like to know what if there are any alternatives to simulate the sone color change alexandrite
On Etsy I see what they call Natural Mojave Green Copper jewelry 😮
if howlite is naturally white - what is white buffalo?

I love turquoise. I have a ring that is supposed to be Sleeping Beauty. How can I determine if this is true?
Is beautiful. Marimar geme

No cheap shot meant. Just explaining the ways of youtube. Seriously, no hard feelings, but I will still ask for subscribers.
