Did you use any type of filler adapter? or just drain from the plug and refilled from the dipstick? Also I spoke with my dealership, they said 5L when refilling. what's your opinion about that?
I drained it from the plug and refilled it from where the dip stick would be. I measured what I drained out and added that amount. Like the oil you don’t want to over fill it.
Does it matter what brand cvt transmission you get? I read in the manual that Nissan is the best brand. Because other brands can potentially damage the transmission
No as long as it’s the right type that’s all that matters. That info I got from a Nissan tech. The car in the video I’ve been doing the trans change and flush since the owner got it a few years ago
I have a 2020 Nissan Sentra with 59,500 miles. Does the dealer do it any differently then say a automotive shop? For example the shop I got to says they us the machine method to suck all the fluid out and fill until the fluid is the normal color. Then once it is then fill it and do the post checkouts accordingly. It doesn't sound like they do a drain from your video example. They do not do a drain and fill with pan dropped and screen and magnets cleaned whic is what I have been also told is the 100% way to do this right. I mean if the dealer is charging $320-$400 for this service and the shop I go to is $189 I am option for the shop vs the dealer. But I want this done right and not risk the CVT in the future. What are your thoughts and recommedations?
Yes that’s the common method is to use the machine to suck it all out. I’ve never liked the way the dealerships over charges the customers that have already are spending their hard earned money. It sounds like as like that shop is being honest about their pricing. Mainly they suck it out because you can damage the pan since it aluminum if you over tighten. To avoid that they suck it out. Now the method I showed doesn’t completely drain all the fluid since the torque converter holds a lot of fluid too. The machine way actually sucks all of it out. I’ve never had an issue with any of the cars I’ve done this way come back with transmission issues and I’ve been doing it this way for years. But in the end it’s up to you and how comfortable you are with either process.
My girlfriend has a ‘21 Sentra is approaching 52k miles and has never done any servicing to the transmission. I’m planning on doing the fluid and cartridge filter sometime this week but I’ve been debating on doing the skim filter on the inside of the transmission too. Not sure if you think it’s worth it to do the internal filter with the current mileage and lack of service history or skip out on it and do the normal fluid change with cartridge filter.
I just did a full trans flush on this same Sentra in this video. I did change the cartridge filter and changed the fluid. I planned changing the Skim filter but the dealership was out of stock. So the owner decided to do the flush without the skim filter. I do say to change it out when you can. After awhile it'll start breaking down. The dealership only does a fluid change when they tell you your car needs a flush. The only time they change those filters out is if they are going to do a transmission rebuild. I hope this answers your question.

Let any vehicle oil changes should be frequent. Depending on the oil type each car needs it should be done from 3k to 5k miles. For the transmission it should be done every 60k mile. It also has a strainer and filter. The dealership states they don’t change either one of those unless they’re rebuilding the transmission. I personally change those out every other service to insure there’s no clogging of ether one. Now doing it the way I show in this video and another I’ve made doesn’t get all the fluid out. The torque converter hold the rest of the transmission fluid. After draining the fluid you disconnect the return line from the transmission and drain the rest that way. Then you fill it with the proper amount of fluid

You want to run the car to get it to operating temperature so you can get as much fluid out as possible then shut it off. While working on the car you don’t want to have it running because you can damage internal components since there’s no fluid in it.

Yes, it’s the same transmission so it will be the same. The Valvoline CTV fluid but as long as the CTV fluid is NS-3 it’ll be good. I go by the service manual which it’s every 30k miles. I just did a total flush on this Sentra just over 60k miles. The owner hasn’t experienced any issues since both services were done.

You’ll never get all the fluid out unless you remove the transmission and remove the torque converter. When a fluid change is done it’s only removing the old fluid and then adding the new fluid. I ran the car for 10 minutes before doing the service and when I drained the fluid it measured out to be 3.8 quarts. I used an empty 5 quart oil container and used that to measure how much fluid came out.
There isn’t a way to check it without a dip stick. That’s why you have to check the owner’s manual or contact a dealership. I had the owners manual when I did the service.
The people I know that have a it haven’t had any issues with it. As long as you’re doing the service on it it’ll last a long time. But with most that go bad it’s because of improper maintenance. Not doing the fluid change will when you should after time will damage it. If you’re looking to buy one with that many miles I’d ask about the services and see if there’s any documentation to make sure they were done in time and properly.
my last car i got under there, loosened a screw, let it drain, filled it up, took 10 screws off the pan put in a new gasket and called it a day. this is gonna suck to work on lol
Total it’s 4.4 quarts but when doing this service it’s always best to have an empty oil container so you can poor in the old fluid to see how much you took out and put that amount in. Since the torque converter has fluid as well but that fluid won’t come out with the rest

Some jobs are tougher than others but when it’s done you get that feeling of accomplishment. But yes some jobs can be a pain lol
