A lot of people seem to say that recasts are bad quality and bad for the industry, but if you find a good forge, like the one in this video, it really is a no brainer. I got into 40 properk about 9 moths ago, before that playing on Tabletop Simulator, and wanted a krieg army. FW wants 60 euros for a single infantry squad. How am I supposed to buy a brigade and eat at the same time. On the other hand I want to support my local 40k club, we don't have a GW shop in country, but we do have clubs that import some 40k models from GW. I found a middle ground, get all I can from my shop and in the case of krieg get conversion bits like for the mars pattern leman russ. Very good comparison. Pure detailed inspection and not ranting about morality. TL:DR Get GW models from local shop and convert to FW armies if possible. If not get recasts.
Overseas prices look crazy - I wonder if GW/FW have thought that if they reduce their prices then they would make more sales and encourage people to buy more from them.
There is no competition to gw. Maybe if the recaster if more people would buy from recasters Gw would be forced to be more consumer friendly and get better pricrs
From what i can see. the quality angle the recast looks as good or even better than the forge world one, since the recasters are taking their own time to trim, sand and correct any imperfections in the model. (Atleast the recaster that you bought from). And sure, legally its a gray to black area, but the price does help if people want to buy forgeworld models to kitbash or experiment modifying the models, and because the cost is cheaper than forgworld, they arent that worried if they ruin some details at times.
It's remarkable the care and attention this recaster has gone to, it makes you thiink that FW could kill the pirate market stone dead with just a few tweaks such as: making sure all the parts are good, trimming off the gates, keeping a full range available and taking another look at their profit model (especially overseas)
@@squadmoralerestored (insert sarcastic voice) no no you dont understand. Forgeworld knows their customer very well and they will happily even get defective models from them
@@sami300war You have a point that fault tolerance among FW buyers is high and that helps perpetuate the status quo. I'm hoping videos like this show how resin casts should be done and hopefully improves the standards that FW use.
@@squadmoralerestored so it brittles easier would you say? 95% similairity sounds close enough for me. The size was not any different from the original either right?
@@johan556 The smaller, thinner parts snap more easily but can easily be superglue back together. I looked for size differences but forgot to mention it - couldn't see any difference to be honest. The weight is a teeny bit lighter, you wouldn't know. Paint etc goes on just as well too in my experience
Bought a back of 5 sanguinary guard jump packs from a recaster, not only were they actually available seperately unlike at FW or GW they were cheaper than the ugly bulky jump packs GW sells and of an actually higher quality than those.
I play Imperial Knights and Custodes. I plan to get recasts because most of my armies range (and best units) are on FW. It sucks that FW Imperial Knights are so damn expensive. This hobby is already expensive enough and I don’t think paying FW absurd amounts of money and rewarding them for their insane prices is the right way to go, for me at least. This video has convinced me to get a recast Porphyrion (which would cost less than a GW questoris knight)
Just got into the Yoyhammer subreddit but I am annoyed at how hard it is to find the info to order. Anyone have contact info for "Z" or other recasters. So far I know WTG and TPC . Would love info for the others . just DM me.
Amazing video! Thanks for making it and being honest and fair. Wanted to ask, if you feel that the resin is more sturdy or stronger on the recast compared to the original, or is it the same, talking mostly about resistance. Would be amazing if you can compare the kingdom death recasts, as buying them from the store is such a pain, there are scalpers that finish the supply in minutes! Some models are quite difficult to find, and i am intrigued about the recasts quality Thanks again!
I buy recast for most of my FW models. I would get Russian recast if it was for a character, but chinese recast is at the mid to lower end of FW quality so I don't mind getting some green stuff, plastic putty, milliput etc. to fill in gaps and details. It's significantly cheaper than even russian recast, you just have to be patient enough for it. Ever since I started buying recast I've been happy with it and happy with the price. I'm not a rich man, I enjoy the hobby, if I was making 100k USD per year I'd buy fw, but I don't. The only times I'll buy from fw is vehicles because I haven't heard a whole lot of good about the vehicles
Interesting video, lots to think about. FW is very overpriced in my country, I doubt I'd buy them at all. Now getting some of the exclusive models does sound like an idea..
The day i bought recast Lorgar as gift and when i saw that it was better cast then my original FW, well thats when i said fk GW. My entire Word Bearers are recasts , Prospero box and original Lorgar + Gal Vorbak. Never FW again, and only GW box if quality of Prospero one…. Fk GW.
Once you Paint and Base them....No One Knows the difference...I have tested and tried it Multiple times in fact it sounds as if when holding them both...that you're reaching and trying to find a MAJOR difference between the two
Hi M D, You're spot on with me reaching. I so wanted to be able to conclude that the original is obviously better but on the evidence of these two casts it really isn't. If you find a decent recaster it seems that it's nigh on impossible to tell them apart. And, as you say, once painted and based it's even harder to tell
Resin's a garbage material and the sooner forgerworld switches to plastic the better. There're so many models on forgeworld that'd be amazing if only they weren't in shit tier resin.
They won't because resin can be hand-moulded while plastic requires industrial machinery with machined dies and much greater floor space. For a company like FW that does small production runs, that's just not worth the expense.
In germany the prices are horror. I have no moral concerns to buy recasts anymore.
Where do you buy them?
@@FannerCode i haven't found a dealer yet
For legal reasons I can't say where but I would suggest looking at Russia
@@squadmoralerestored Haha Thanks

This Video convinced me, the next time there's some from FW I want I'm going to try out recast
Really well made video and I appreciate the honesty
Thanks Kaj!
The original has a gap on the loincloth between the first 2 scrolls. The recast almost fills in that defect.
Where do you guy's get them since the main web site shut down recently?

I have this model (Forge World, not judging anyone who does otherwise) and this has made me want to get it washed and painted. Good comparison vid.
Love the name of this channel.
@Squad morale Restored, did you try to clean the recast? Was it less shiny then?
Hi Johan, yes I gave it a fairy liquid (detergent) wash and it was fine after that, thanks for your question :)
