The old dwarf they run into at the small village that they add so much heart and some sadness to, with his failing memory of his wife, but he endures for that unrecalled memory in protecting the village.
It does so much with so little. The last two scenes with him and Frieren could’ve filled an episode. He reveals that he can’t remember his wife’s face and that he doesn’t know how long it’s been since Frieren first visited the village. This implies that it’s likely been 50+ years since memories of his wife began to fade. But, when Frieren departs again he tells her that she “shook something loose” and his wife appeared in his dreams again. Such a beautiful story told in a handful of scenes.

It's easy to forget that Stark absolutely BODIED a dragon solo. Mages might be OP with magic but when they're not casting, they're just normal people. Stark's hand to Fern must've felt like the hand of god coming to take her.
It almost dislocated her shoulder, he was putting his body weight on that grip as well , like leaning on a person. Frieren probably would've been shocked if that happened to her and might have pulled out her Shinra Tensei . Stark was so tough that Eisen was scared of him and it wasn't an irrational fear . Stark severely underestimates his strength, while dealing with enemies and friends; this moment was another testament to that.
Add to the fact that he's a man and shes a woman, alot of time men forget how much stronger and how scary they can be to women in general, not in a bad way necessarily but in a "that guy could effortlessly yeet you" sort of way even though he wouldn't, it's important to always be tactful and considering of these things, but then again the two of them are also sort of baby in their own way.
@@aminulhussain2277 Frieren was using mana to stop MAGIC from killing her, but Stark was directly touching her, so, in that moment if he wanted to he could have killed her
It wasn't just that Stark held Fern's shoulder down. She remarked that his grip was painful, and that it hurt her because he wasn't controlling his strength. It's easy to marvel at someone's physical prowess, but only when it's used against you does it suddenly become terrifying.
As a woman that moment was instantly relatable. I'm not afraid of men but when you're smaller than most men you can't help but feel instinctively intimidated by innocent actions unless you're very familiar with them. My boyfriend isn't super tall but has been weightlifting for years. When we first started dating I sometimes had to politely remind him that he was stronger/heavier than me and could he please be a bit more careful with how tightly he gripped me etc. None of it was intentional, he simply didn't realize he was doing it. In Fern's case especially she doesn't have a lot of experience with men touching her and how to articulate her boundaries and discomfort, so I totally understood why she acted the way she did.
I don't know if its was my traduction, but for me they didn't say that it hurt her, the problem was that she wasn't able to move, like he was restraining her
I don't know if I'm making shit up, but I believe there was a notion of Stark holding _onto_ Fern's shoulder, which gave her the impression that Stark didn't want to give her the opportunity to run away. Something this subtle is something that wouldn't even cross some people's minds, as it didn't with Stark and myself watching the show. I can't remember if it was past trauma or just what Fern has grown to have implied with such a gesture, but I feel little things, exactly like Fern's really add the kind of depth to a character only well written ones as well as real people with myriad of varied backgrounds can have.
It's not just that, it's the realization that if Stark ever wanted to hurt her, there's not much she could do to stop him. It's easy to marvel and being impressed by that strength. It's another when you realize that strength could completely and utterly overpower you. It ultimately becomes about trust.
@@burnttoast.2017 Yeah.. It'd be like living with a pitbull. At any point if it wants to rip you to shreds... it can. And there wouldn't be much you could do.

Agreed. I always look for shows where characters develop and become more and more interesting, but they're hard to find. I think netflix actually does a decent job of curating (or did at some point) but I've been using crunchyroll mostly in the past years and it's filled with nothing but isekai and OP main character gets revenge stuff.
Its actually crazy how a show is able to make you like or at least respect every character that gets introduced. Best example would be Denken. I thought he would just be a generic bad guy but instead became a total gigachad.
For real, all characters introduced in the First Class Exam seemed weird and cliche... at first. Then all of them showed surprising depth and now I love them all. From how much of a softie Wirbel is, to Deken's sad backstory (and uncanny ability to just adopt another teenage mage as his own granddaughter for absolutely no reason), and Ubel terrifying concept and use of empathy.
two of my friends keep saying that I'm overhyping Frieren. but I think that's because they only watch it on the surface level. they're not paying attention to the characters themselves or the music or all of the other undertones of the show. glad im not the only one that appreciates the shows deeper messages.

I have to agree with your friends. I did enjoy it but people are reaching a bit calling it a masterpiece, I’ve even heard the best anime ever, which is ridiculous.
I honestly think you can’t enjoy this show on the level it deserves until you’re a little older and have experienced the loss of someone you love. It takes that pain that so many of us have and turns it into something beautiful. I’ve never had a show change the way I live until I watched Frieren. Now I make a concerted effort to spend as much quality time with the people I love as I can.
Yes... you need to cry your eyes out in the first episode and let that old pain and remorse hit you, then let it simmer for a bit. After that, everything is beautiful, watching Frieren enjoying life and her time with those she loves.
Frieren's reaction after she realized that Himmel was gone while she failed to know him better even though she had all the time in the world was too real for me. Made me reflect on my relationships with my family, they whom I care the most in life. Frieren broke my heart from the first episode. Gotta be honest, I was afraid to see the rest of the episodes,.. until I saw clips of Methode and my horniness got the better of my emotion.
@@MN-jw7mm You can be booksmart and still oblivious to social cues. Again, that's an exploration of a complex character who, despite her age and experience, isn't perfect.
Frieren for me was a show about how the passage of time erases everything, even memories. We have Himmel, whom we are shown to be 'The Great Hero', only to have his friend Heiter pass away decades later with barely a recognised funeral. Then we meet Kraft, whom unbeknownst to everyone was actually 'The Great Hero' of a time long forgotten that were it not the statue of him, no one would ever know. Himmel himself said that he had statues of himself made everywhere so that Frieren wouldn't ever forget their adventures when she traveled. Perhaps he knew deep down that he could never be with Frieren and have a family, hence why he had them made as he knew he'd never love another enough to want to start a family. So many times in the first episodes we are shown how much time passes. Himmel's victory is the starting marker but that quickly gets replaced with "XX years since Himmel's death". Towards the last episodes, we start to see the memory of Himmel and his achievements start to fade of the collective human memory, as those that were alive to hear of him become old and few. One important note too, when Himmel bought the ring and knelt on the ground to present it to Frieren, he did so infront of the clock tower. A nice gesture until you realise that the only thing between Frieren and Himmel, is, in fact the difference of time.
It also shows how as time goes stories change from person to person, so we would never truly know who/what someone was like when they were alive unless we knew them personally. I don't remember if this was in the anime or manga, but there was a scene, where people in a village talk about how Himmel killed a giant snake like 100 feet or something, then after some time that number changes to 1000 feet, showing how stories can change from person to person, it can be due to a faulty memory or just wanting to exaggerate things, but in the end it changes how the story really went. In the end frieren is the only one who actually remembers what the true story is. This can also easily apply to our life as well, because who knows how much of the history we read is actually right? Who knows how good or bad all the people from history are? Especially from a long time ago?
@@yeetusthefetus3465 aaa that is true, It make us think about the stories and legends about our past heroes in this world. In my belief, I think this is the exact way how I would explain why "the boy and the heron" won the animated film of the year instead of "spiderman into the spiderverse". It wasn't because it was the legendary Miyazaki's final film but because of the humanity shown within.
Except, I didn't find many characters from the Boy and the Heron that I liked. Whether it was the Boy or the Heron or one of the other side characters they ran the gamut from boring and one dimensional to assholes or selfish pricks that I just was waiting to get their cumuppance. I'd say the Boy and the Heron was the antithesis of what this video is praising about Frieren. Succeeding in spite of the lack of charm in its characters.

that fern/stark moment also has to be put into perspective, Stark is *strong*, like REALLY Strong. and even if he held her shoulder gently yet firmly, it mustve felt like an immovable object on her shoulder
As a side note, Fern wasn't bothered by Stark touching her shoulder either. The problem was he used too much strength, which frightened her. Stark's a strong MOFO and he didn't realize his own strength. In the end she told him "be more gentle with me", which will come in handy when they finally do it.

"I cared about everyone I met" that is one of the major things that sets it apart from other shows, every side character, whether they were around for half an episode or a whole arc had just some amount of depth to them that it makes them so memorable. Other shows just show they have "a thing" and thats it, thats their entire character, but Frieren makes you come to like them, even love them, there isn't a single character in this show that I didn't like when I wasn't supposed to
This is one of the best video essays ever, short but detailed, concise and focused, it proves that you don’t need to do hour long super massive videos to say something meaningful about a show!

Amazing video, really good job. I appreciate how you were able to quickly explain in detail your thoughts while weaving in the strengths of the anime. Masterpiece anime that deserves all the praise.
Frieren is like a beautifully crafted cocktail or a bottle of perfectly aged red wine. Slow, steady, with high and relaxed notes, such a masterpiece that is best enjoy leisurely.
She was scared by how strong Stark was, she didn't mind him touching her, she was upset with how much strength he used (accidentally mind you) when he touched her. She said he wanted him to be gentler in the future. 😊
and also the fact that almost all the name of people and places and even some spells have a hidden meaning in german this just goes to show how much thought and effort was put into making this absolute gem of show
This video is the best RUclips video I’ve ever watched I’ve been saying frieren was my top 1 anime but when someone would ask me why i couldn’t ever explain it but this video is like all the thoughts buy into 4 minutes truly beautiful
Honestly that moment between Fern and Stark was extremely well written I too thought it was just going to be another trope but the moment Fern stated it was like her should was pinned under a bolder and she couldn't move at all it made perfect sense on why she was scared and angry.
As a German the show is funny because of the names of the characters which are all in German but they are not actual names but rather places or conditions or descriptions. Himmel is heaven, Frieren is the feeling of being cold and Stark is strong. The show is very good and interesting too and one of the best.
thats what i loved about it, as a german speaker, you could get clues on the personality of each character, Frieren (freezing or cold) is distant in nature and mostly monotone, as if shes giving you a cold shoulder, Fern (distant) can hide her presents that even Frieren has trouble locating her like if shes too far away and Stark feels like shes unaproachable, Stark (strong) is just strong, mentally and physical, Denken (thinking) is a wise old man who uses his intelligent and experience to come up with plans that benefit everyone, Flamme (flame) i think her name means that she is the flame of humanities mages, she pushed the research of the human magic system and was the greatest mage that ever lived being like a beacon of hope for every aspiring mage, Lügner (liar) uses lies and deception to get what he wants, hes good with words and can wrap you around his fingers, Linie (line) she can see the mana flowing in the moves of anyone, and is able to imitate these moves by following the flow of mana like following a line
@@nickhanisch1501 Flamme being the "flame of humanities mages" looks a lot like a parallel to the greek titan Prometheus (also the god of FIRE), who is best known for taking fire from the gods and giving it to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge, and civilization.
I agree so much with this and even how meeting strangers sometimes touches us so profoundly either in a really intimate interpersonal way like splitting a table spontaneously at a restaurant with 2 strangers for 4 hours to having a brief but interesting conversation in passing with someone you never saw again on the bus and thinking about it for years

This video encapsulates the reason why Frieren has become my no.1 anime. Frieren has all the tropes and elements that we've seen in manga/anime and fantasy and yet it feels refreshing. The story and characters feel human. It's a harsh world but the people didn't loose their humanity. And this show have subverted a lot of stuff for me. I never a big fan of elves but I love the elves in Frieren. I was in awe seeing dwarves as truly powerful warriors and extremely loyal friends instead of the typical Hollywood stereotype constantly blubbering about caves and mines. Crybaby characters annoy me but not Stark. I hate psychopathic characters(I still do and why I don't watch Arcane or anything with Harley Quin or Joker) but Ubel is fine in my eyes.
Thats a very silly reason to not watch Arcane. You are missing out on one of the greatest shows ever made! Not to mention that you are basing it off false assumptions, Jinx isnt a psychopath.
@@dareka9425 if we are talking Jinx in the game League of Legends then yeah, totaly. But Jinx in Arcane is an entirely different character. Insane and traumatized from the suffering in her life, absolutely. But very well written and compelling. But i suppose if you cant handle realistic depictions of Trauma and mental decay, then its sadly not for you, yes.
Too often, i find anime that I like but can't quite describe whats so great about them Its nice to come across a great video that puts those feelings into words
The other ‘thing’ is that the older you are the more you can appreciate Frieren. You need some life experience to be able to fully understand the motifs and themes. I am 40 as I post this. I don’t think Frieren would have resonated with as much with me in my mid teens.
Another detail that I remember was when Frieren and Wirbel were sitting on that bench and talking, the moment Wirbel said "Himmel" you can see Frieren's eyes twitch and widen on the side of screen. It's these little details that I love so much.
It’s not about budget, it’s about the feeling you get with this show. You just feel the LOVE that was made with this show, like a warm pho or chicken noodle soup in a cold day. It’s comforting, exciting and made with love and care.
I ADORE how 'Laufen' becomes a granddaughter 'just like that' XD She and her new 'grandpa' simply get along so well like it was always meant like that... they simply are on a wavelength and embrace it without questioning their gift.
That video gives me nostalgia. I've seen videos about Frieren's combat, animation, storytelling and the all rang true. Add this one to the list. Best anime I've ever watched.
What really struck me was how well the show handled what it's like to be long-lived. Frieren really struggles to relate to a human timescale. To her, 50 years is equivalent to less than 5 human years; and that's five years for an adult human. When you really sit down and think about it, what seemed like Frieren being odd was just the disconnection between her timescale and everyone else's, including the audience. Ten years in a forest? Just a year on her scale.
I loved Frieren. I Even watched it again with my mom with German dubbing (she isn‘t a subtile person) and she loved it as well and we regulary talk about the show. About the funny things, the music, the animation, the importance of cherishing and using our time, the loss of Himmel and Frieren‘s sadness and all the flashbacks (and the fact, that both loved each other). It‘s not just about all the things above but also how this show catches you on a deep emotional level.
it's been 4 years i lost my mom (yeah sad ik) and i'm telling you frieren hits so hard 😭 i'm so happy this anime came out because it speaks so much to me...
It's one of the rare shows that I don't subconsciously predict what's going to happen long in advance. It's probably the only show that's made me feel deeply connected to the characters in a realistic way. It's the only show that's ever given me a sense of nostalgia despite watching it for the first time. It's the only show that's ever provoked both tears of joy, and sorrow from me. It's an absolute masterpiece and I hope many more come to find themselves watching and enjoying it as I have.
stark held her shoulder down **and didn't realize how fucking strong he was and that she was overpowering her** and that scared her. well done though on this essay! love seeing good simple content like this again on YT
I distinctly remember after watching the scene of the leaves circulating in the fountain, I remarked out loud to myself, "Man, this almost feels like a Studio Ghibli production." The human-ness of this show and it's ability to invite the watcher to reflect on its characters is just off the charts and is gonna end up as a timeless classic.
After reading the manga for so much time, I’m so happy to finally see it getting the love it deserves and see people recognising themselves into the character and loving the story
i think that Frieren does a very good job exposing so little of the characters that has the watcher wanting more of it, but then goes on to repeat the cycle
I fully agree In Frieren, I care about this random old mage who just wants to visit his wife's grave In Demon Slayer, I don't even care about the main character
@@Gecko3456 No, Demon Slayer is pretty cool, I don't want to bash on it. It just doesn't really have the most compelling cast of characters. There's pretty much only 2 characters I remotely care about in the whole show and neither of them is Tanjiro.

Doesnt mean its bad, but lets be real, if it wasnt animated by the Wizards at Ufotable with the Animation and Soundtrack fireing on all cylinders, most people wouldnt care about it. Madhouse has a way of making anime with extremely interesting concepts. If feels like the hypotheticals you think about in everyday life when you're lost in thought or bored is turned into one show after the other. "What would happen if you lived for thousands of years" (Frieren) "What would happen if a superhero one punch any foe" (One Punch Man) "What would happen if you were put into your last game" (Overlord) "What would happen if a normal student could kill anyone by writing their name in a notebook" (Death Note)
It always takes two watches for me to fully appreciate a series or film. I completed my second watch of Frieren this week. This is the only anime that has ever truly made me cry.
What I love about the Frieren is that each character you meet has their own journey. That is what the premise of the anime is. Everyone has a journey in their life and it's how they go about it
Me watching this with my parents pausing every few minutes: “did you catch that? I mean, it’s not that important, it’s a really small thing, but it’s just a really cool moment about this character that personifies them”
The scene where the demon child tries to make amends for killing that woman’s child was so well done, it makes you see how the demons see and that they *might* be capable of true emotion just in a messed up way
There many things I like about Frieren but the one that spark the most is how amazing the 'magic system' in Frieren. Magic is a visualized but visualized something nonsense like imaging they can break through a magic barrier with a magic spell is impossible but if someone can visualized that they can 'cut' through a magic barrier that made from hair or cloth, it is possible. It complicated but yet easy to understand.
That's how a story should be. It's about characters who are real, alive, thinking, feeling, with experiences beyond what we see. So many other series and shows where a character is just a role in the story and not a sentient being.
Another very detailed bit of writing that most people overlook: We get lots of insight about Himmel from Flashbacks, making him quite a fleshed out character considering how little screen time he has. Showing his idealistic nature, wanting to help people, and unshakable determination. But despite his huge importance in the story and world, we still don't really know anything about him. No small details like where he grew up, what he liked to do, his sense of humour, his ties to anyone. Nothing. He's just 'there'. Compare that to Fern, Stark and even many minor characters that Frieren encounters along the show and we learn all sorts of small characteristics and quirks about them. This is because all the info we have on Himmel is from Frieren thinking back to her quest with him, and as she lamented in the first episode: She barely knew anything about him.
I knew Freiren was gonna be good when we saw the direction Heiter was going towards a death by alcoholism, and by the pacing we could assume he would he gone next- but then Freiren shows up and he’s still alive and has renewed himself and found purpose in raising Fern. Those beautiful moments of humanity and redemption pop up so often in this show, it’s not just story for the sake of plot.
at this point, I think One Piece fans that thinks that Frieren is inferior are just struck by Stockholm syndrome after watching so much episodes for so less content
This is what makes Frieren one of my all time favorites and the same reason I love some of my other favorites (Mushoku Tensei and Xenoblade 2) so much too Also huge props to keeping this so concise, most videos like this would pad it out to 15+ mins just to say everything you said in 4
The demons on frieren legit scared me, never expected there nature to be so devious compared to generic demons in other anime's or piece of fiction, who's just evil for the sake of being evil. Demons on frieren actually feels like a threat, they have no emotions yet they disguise it by taking advantage of humanities sympathy, idk how to describe it well. They just feels like a natural predator to humans like the anime states, they hunt humans for consumption the same way we hunt animals for the same reason. I know that a lot of other literature delves on the same aspect/topic, but for me frieren really executed it well. Specially that flashback episode with Himmel and the gang, that episode didn't really scared me but made me uncomfortable (not in a bad way). God I love this show, so many simple "cliche's" are (idk what do describe it mb) done very well and executed perfectly, it's not a bad thing it's just oozing in ur familiarity with the genre but u dont expect it to be so good. p.s sorry if my englis is bad, I'm currently working on my vocabulary thanks for reading tho
The thing about Frieren, it's a show about immortals, elves, demons and all but it doesn't demonize the idea of death or afterlife either. As if both Immortality and mortality are things to cherish and be afraid of. Frieren is a very human show despite the main character being a long-living elf. It highlights small moments that seem insignificant in an anime point of view but in a real point of view, it's raw and real. These moments flesh out the characters and give us a reason to stand behind them through their journey. I haven't been super into anime since maybe around 2018 but I have seen a few shows, most of which focus on the characters rather than the plot which is definitely something I love. Understanding a character and every decision they make knowing how their lives may have influenced their opinions or choices and seeing it happen, almost feels like you're watching your child grow up. It's pretty tragic if you think about how our brains cannot tell the difference between fictional characters and real people. even if we are aware of that fact, our brains remember them like they are real people and that's why you get people genuinely falling in love with characters from books or shows. So in a way, shows like this, can really have long-lasting effects on some people
The old dwarf they run into at the small village that they add so much heart and some sadness to, with his failing memory of his wife, but he endures for that unrecalled memory in protecting the village.

I feel like this completely encapsulates why I love Frieren, I mean the big moments are cool as hell, but its the small moments that made me realize, this isn't any stereotypical show, its a very HUMAN show.
Great video btw
Correction, it's a very ELVEN show.

Agreed. I always look for shows where characters develop and become more and more interesting, but they're hard to find. I think netflix actually does a decent job of curating (or did at some point) but I've been using crunchyroll mostly in the past years and it's filled with nothing but isekai and OP main character gets revenge stuff.
*encapsulates
Its actually crazy how a show is able to make you like or at least respect every character that gets introduced.
Best example would be Denken. I thought he would just be a generic bad guy but instead became a total gigachad.
A mage who isn't useless when he can't use magic. He casts "Fists".
@@isaiahhackshaw201 "I'm all out of mana, but not out of options."
Wirbel also, I thought he is a foil "bad guy" character but he is basically a realistic take on a war veteran.
I’m with you! I’ve only watched this show for the first time a month ago… it’s very profound 🔥✨
You cannot overhype Frieren, it is always precisely hyped. Your friends probably have ADHD and need a million cuts a second to keep their attention.
@@nikkim9014 I'm sure people with ADHD, Autism, etc. would be able to find the profound meanings within Frieren dude. Don't underestimate disabled folk.
@@nikkim9014 as someone with ADHD I can not relate to that comment at all lol. Frieren is by far my favorite recent series and I love it for many of the same reasons as the video explained.
It was similar to me. I realized that I want to spend more time with my parents.
Frieren being unrealistically stupid is the worst part of the show for me.
@@MN-jw7mm You can be booksmart and still oblivious to social cues. Again, that's an exploration of a complex character who, despite her age and experience, isn't perfect.
This MIGHT be sein
@@MN-jw7mm Social norms would be utterly meaningless to a being that doesn't experience time the way any normal being does.
I remembered also in the manga where the statue of Himmel was built different in the northeren regions. I think the real story despite it is sound very exaggerated were only the Hero of the South fierce battle.
Frieren would not be possible without both the animation and music at the level of extreme skill that was displayed.
Yes but actually when reading the manga you realize it's pretty good anyways
I think it would be still rate something like 8 on MAL even with bad animation. Story is just rly good but of course you are right - animation and music are insane here.
@@domitesse5867 I think we should also give special mention to the VA, both english and japanese, for Frierren herself.

In my belief, I think this is the exact way how I would explain why "the boy and the heron" won the animated film of the year instead of "spiderman into the spiderverse". It wasn't because it was the legendary Miyazaki's final film but because of the humanity shown within.
All of Miyazaki’s films since Princess Mononoke have been his final film. Miyazaki will still be making films until he passes away.

As a side note, Fern wasn't bothered by Stark touching her shoulder either. The problem was he used too much strength, which frightened her. it's more so that women are naturally weaker and feel vulnerable with men, so a man she trusts/likes scaring her like that is particularly unpleasant, though she recognises he means no harm, his insensitivity to how it makes her feel makes her mad. it's a very real moment that a lot of people didn't get. a lot of us don't understand how women feel. i loved fern and stark interactions.
Every journey begins with "It has been x years since the Hero Himmels passing". Yet the dude was characterized so well in flashbacks that he keeps topping the popularity polls from beyond the grave!
I loved this, you say a lot in a small time-frame, and that makes it stand out among other "about Frieren" videos that are almost always more than 10 minutes long.
Watching this without any knowledge of this show, Changed my life. Seriously made me more grateful with the time I have and being intentional living my life and wanting to learn more about others, their stories…and not just focusing on my selfish ways. But enjoying life with others. ❤
"I cared about everyone I met" that is one of the major things that sets it apart from other shows, every side character, whether they were around for half an episode or a whole arc had just some amount of depth to them that it makes them so memorable. Other shows just show they have "a thing" and thats it, thats their entire character, but Frieren makes you come to like them, even love them, there isn't a single character in this show that I didn't like when I wasn't supposed to
Strangely,I dont rember them,but I remember I liked them.

Flamme is Flame and Frieren is Freeze
Lugner 😂
thats what i loved about it, as a german speaker, you could get clues on the personality of each character, Frieren (freezing or cold) is distant in nature and mostly monotone, as if shes giving you a cold shoulder, Fern (distant) can hide her presents that even Frieren has trouble locating her like if shes too far away and Stark feels like shes unaproachable, Stark (strong) is just strong, mentally and physical, Denken (thinking) is a wise old man who uses his intelligent and experience to come up with plans that benefit everyone, Flamme (flame) i think her name means that she is the flame of humanities mages, she pushed the research of the human magic system and was the greatest mage that ever lived being like a beacon of hope for every aspiring mage, Lügner (liar) uses lies and deception to get what he wants, hes good with words and can wrap you around his fingers, Linie (line) she can see the mana flowing in the moves of anyone, and is able to imitate these moves by following the flow of mana like following a line
@@nickhanisch1501 Flamme being the "flame of humanities mages" looks a lot like a parallel to the greek titan Prometheus (also the god of FIRE), who is best known for taking fire from the gods and giving it to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge, and civilization.
You put into words what i loved about the show but couldnt express. Great video
I agree so much with this and even how meeting strangers sometimes touches us so profoundly either in a really intimate interpersonal way like splitting a table spontaneously at a restaurant with 2 strangers for 4 hours to having a brief but interesting conversation in passing with someone you never saw again on the bus and thinking about it for years
I felt your last sentence really hard.. The pacing in this Anime is also placed on point with kind of patience and I also noticed some certain parts depicture Ikigai
The music was just so fucking on point and made me feel exactly what they wanted had me tearing up man shit was fire.
@@datzfatz2368 Fine. She's a crazy person and crazy people scares me. Even her voice sounds just like all the crazy female video game characters.

The other ‘thing’ is that the older you are the more you can appreciate Frieren.

This is the best video so far dude

I ADORE how 'Laufen' becomes a granddaughter 'just like that' XD
She and her new 'grandpa' simply get along so well like it was always meant like that... they simply are on a wavelength and embrace it without questioning their gift.
It‘s not just about all the things above but also how this show catches you on a deep emotional level.
it's been 4 years i lost my mom (yeah sad ik) and i'm telling you frieren hits so hard 😭
i'm so happy this anime came out because it speaks so much to me...
I fully agree

@@Gecko3456 No, Demon Slayer is pretty cool, I don't want to bash on it. It just doesn't really have the most compelling cast of characters. There's pretty much only 2 characters I remotely care about in the whole show and neither of them is Tanjiro.

Wait, was the demon's name Lugner? Never noticed that detail.
(Means liar in German)
Yeah. They use a lot of clever naming conventions like that. Such as Flamme (fire) and Frieren (ice) and their respective hair color/personalities

My sleeper favorite was Denken. His attitude to throw hands when he was out of mana completely won me over.
That's how a story should be. It's about characters who are real, alive, thinking, feeling, with experiences beyond what we see. So many other series and shows where a character is just a role in the story and not a sentient being.
There are so good carcaters in the manga that they could earn a spin off
Another very detailed bit of writing that most people overlook:
We get lots of insight about Himmel from Flashbacks, making him quite a fleshed out character considering how little screen time he has.
That thumbnail.
She canonically splooshed and didn't know what to think about it
It will always be one of the best anime. It stacks up to the best anime of the 2000s and even blows some of them out of the water.
This is what makes Frieren one of my all time favorites and the same reason I love some of my other favorites (Mushoku Tensei and Xenoblade 2) so much too
Also huge props to keeping this so concise, most videos like this would pad it out to 15+ mins just to say everything you said in 4
Very insightful video, thank you ❤

So in a way, shows like this, can really have long-lasting effects on some people
Great video 👍
