13:43 is a MAJOR reason to choose the Viofo A139. So many times parking issues happen and needing to know what happened is the reason for the damn camera. This one feature alone is reason to go with the Viofo A139. I know which one I am getting now. Might want to start with this feature first next time, save yourself a lot of trouble :)
Excellent video my Good Sir, excellent video!

As early as twelve years ago this was solved by permanently wiring then top-of-the-line Blackview through a low-voltage-protector to a battery and using a proper quality SD Card. If the dashcam runs all the time and you get two days worth of recording then your only concern is leaving your car at a long-term parking (i.e. airport). However, you get no blackouts in recordings and you can actually have a more usable per pixel data out of your recordings. To me this is of more importance than the convenience of sensors trying to decided for your what is important to record.
Dashcams will continue to evolve. They remain far from perfect.

In one of my cars, I have a Vantrue N4 PRO with 3 cameras, one front, one back, one inside. I turned off the inside one and MIC... so front is a 4K pic and Rear vehicle is 1080. Works excellent for detection, GPS cordenants and MPH live read on the screen and overlay on the screen. Going on 9 months installed with the permenent install kit and GPS kit. The picture is amazing compared to ANY other cam i've ever had in the past that is always like watching a 90's recorded VHS... lol..
The nightvision and low light, is amazing....
I did a lot of research for best webcam and for my budget area and features, this was always the one on top of all my research... I havent looked at license plate reading on any vids... I'll have to look up for it... One feature I wish it had, was wifi to be able to pull videos while in the garage and not pull out and copy the vids manual. Even when you're covering a topic that I might have some familiarity with, I find that I still learn something, or at least don't start yelling at my screen. This is exactly the opposite of LTT - the few videos of his that I've viewed on a recommendation from others on topics that I'm somewhat familiar with just piss me off. What an excellent overview. I doubt most people appreciate the skill and effort required to present information clearly and logically -- much less with the added challenge of using video as the presentation medium.
I've been shopping for a dash cam system for the last 5 years and never made a purchase because (1) it was overwhelming to compare/contrast all the features and positive/negative reviews; and (2) the perfect one was not yet available in the U.S. -- although more advanced versions with a full feature set were readily available in Europe.
Based on this thorough and informative overview, I think I'm ready to make a purchase -- even though one camera still does not have all the features I need and want.

I don't believe the majority of people have any concept as to how time-consuming just the video editing is. I would think that you probably had a minimum of 25 hours of seat-time just doing the editing, not to mention the hours upon hours it took to set up every camera and properly document each step so that you wouldn't later get lost in all of the footage from the cameras.

Great testing - please keep up the excellent work. One variable that comes to mind is the glass of the windscreen, specifically that directly in front of the lens of the individual camera being tested.
Sure the windscreen can be thoroughly clean inside and out, but with this level of scrutiny at the extremes of the camera’s capabilities variations in manufacturing can mean there may be small areas of the windscreen that distort the acquired image more than others.
I realise you may have taken this into account in your testing by using exactly the same part of the windscreen for every test. Otherwise it may be worth considering a way to more closely analyse the effect of this on the test results.
One obvious way I guess would be to switch the positioning of the cameras giving the worst results with those giving the best and re-running the tests. Like I said you may have accounted for this already.
    Also…
Relying on the test result of a single sample of each product introduces another potential variable, that of quality control. You can have 2 makers with the same level of QC but a bad sample from either May unfairly skew the result.
Having just 2 samples of each would go a long way toward offsetting this issue. Two identical results (good or bad) from 2 samples of the same product would carry much more weight than only the one.
I realise this has a significant effect of the testing process but definitely warrants consideration.

@@ganjabobby There are distinctions between the two though, they are not the same thing.
When you sell something, you choose who you're doing business with. The party you agree to sell it to gives you an agreed upon sum of money which you get to keep. You give them the agreed upon item which they get to keep.
When you auction something off (for charity or not) the highest bidder gets to keep the item, you don't get to decide or control who that is or who was even eligible to bid.
Point is, auctioning != selling. The two terms are not directly interchangeable.
For as bad as what happened is, how much worse it would be if they called EK, AlphaCool, BitsPower, Corsair or any other liquid cooling manufacturer directly and sold it to them, or if they listed it on their own store as a 1 of 1 sale item that anyone could have bought? THAT is selling, and that'd be exponentially worse
Yes, it sucks for Billet labs either way, especially if their prototype happens to wind up with one of their competitors (either from auction directly or by buying it off of the winner) and no, it should have never happened.

If LPR is your #1 need, I have found that purchasing used police dash cameras is the way to go. They are usually much larger because they will have optical zoom. My WatchGuard 4RE and Panasonic Arbitrator both have this, and I can read plates clearly from over 100+ feet away.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  9 месяцев назад +10

Yeah, you would of course run those in conjunction with a wide angle camera. Very much like security cameras, no amount of resolution increase can make up for optical zoom. However, if you need a multipurpose device the IMX678 makes a very compelling argument.

I love how scientific you get when reviewing. Sometimes your videos are a little long winded but very info packed. You get every detail out there as fast as humanly possible and your not very subjective about your results. Love it. I trust you with all my honest reviews. Imma spend an extreme amount of money and buy everything and show them side by side so you can know everything possible. You really go above and beyond. And in this Florida heat. Sheeeesh. 😅

I didn't realize how current this video was until I looked after watching it a couple of times. Honestly I'd not looked at anything that wasn't Garmin. Yes I've been using my two Garmin GPS's (2597 car GPS) & 62ST (hiking gps)

The only comprehensive video of dash cams on image quality I've seen and also provides an abundance of footage. Gonna have to wishlist a Vantrue N4P now lol

Seems like a big unforced error by Vantrue to not enable the processing on the more expensive N5 since they did on the N4. But once again a great, comprehensive review with a very clear outcome.

N5 uses the IMX675 while the N4 Pro uses the IMX678. My guess is we will see an N5 Pro at some point with an IMX678 or better sensor.

🎉I support your channel for this detail oriented data driven analysis. Not just any marketing material or gimic which LTT throws. I guess they are dealing their own mess right now. Love the review love the clarity on the explanation. Gopro is not a purpose built dashcam period.

lol the LTT community has a track record for being pretty pathetic. thanks for your amazing content as always, you often cover many things that other channels completely leave out or they dont even consider to look at. and your reviews are always very practical... your old led videos and motor blinds videos are some of my favorites.

LTT's video was accurate when almost all dashcams used the same crappy old sensor. That changed when STARVIS 2 sensor came out in December of that year. Besides that, good review.

I came from LTT. His videos tend to be indexed to my account, since I like tech content. However, I could tell by watching his review that I needed more 'clarity' on this subject. Thank you sooooo much for taking the time and effort to test these cameras in the manner you did. I feel like I watched a definitive, exhaustive review, which is hard to come by in this day. You made the process of choosing the best camera to protect my family easy!! I'm definitely a subscriber now!! Keep up the excellent work!!
