“To seek revenge may lead to hell but everyone does it and seldom as well.” Such a great line by Stephen Sondheim one of his absolute best musicals next to a little night music, into the woods, company , Sunday in the park with George

I love this version of the original stage musical. I saw this the first time when I was in grade11 at my arts High School. It's the same HS that Dave Chappell went to, but I graduated a year before he got there. My teacher wanted us to see the complexity of Stephen Sondhiem music. This is why I so love his musicals. He is my favorite composer.

Yes! I'm so glad you got to see this version too! The movie is all right, but I honestly think the story is so over-the-top, it works better on stage. I wonder if any of your Patrons will sponsor a third version? My favorite one is a concert recording with the same actor for Sweeney, Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett, and Neil Patrick Harris as Toby.

That was great one too. My favorite version was the 2006 Broadway revival with lupone and cerveris . Front row, it was amazing. The production, the, playing the instruments onstage, the humor, the buckets of blood. Soooo wish they would have filmed that for pbs. You can find a crude audience here on yt

You should watch Angela Lansbury in “The Manchurian Candidate” if you want to see her in a great screen performance. She was really evil in that one too. Quite a contrast to the young and innocent character she played in the film I first saw her in “The Picture Of Dorian Gray”. She was also very good in the classic film “Gaslight” (she was only 17 years old when she did that one and was nominated for an Academy Award for both that movie and Dorian Gray). Of course, she is probably best remembered by a younger audience for her role in the tv series “Murder She Wrote”. She was a marvelous actress who received many accolades throughout her long, illustrious career.

So if you really enjoyed the music composer of this play is Stephen Sondheim. He is my favorite Broadway (musichall) play right. I highly recommend that you watch the original stage production of into the woods which starred Bernadette peters and Joanna Gleason. That was my first Broadway show years back but I saw it on PBS. And I cannot recommend enough Sunday in the Park with George which starred Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin. It is one of those plays that touches your soul and leaves chills down your spine. It’s that beautiful.

Angela Lansbury is THE Mrs. Lovett, this was a great production and one of Sondheim's masterworks. I saw the play in London and when Todd kills Pirelli, everybody screamed. And A Little Priest is a brilliant waltz for such a gruesome idea. Thanks! Another Sondheim you'd like is Company and A Little Night Music - both brilliant

I believe this was the version shown on public television baxk in the 1980s. I love Angela Lansbury; she did a wide variety of roles, from Nancy in 'Gaslight' (her film debur), through Mrs. Potts in 'Beauty and the Beast', to the Balloon Lady in 'Mary Poppins Returns'. My favorite line in this show: Damn, them pussies in quick!!
There's nothing like a live performance.
You might like this version of 'A Little Priest' from the 2010 BBC Proms, with Bryn Terfel as Sweeney Todd and Maria Friedman as Mrs. Lovett. It has a couple additional puns thrown in for good measure: ruclips.net/video/DTbT6k52uZ0/видео.html

So glad you’re watching this musical. Here’s a few of my personal favorite musicals you must see. Phantom of the opera is my all time fave!
    1. Phantom of the Opera (2004 starring Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler, and Patrick Wilson) my all time favorite musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on the novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux
Fun fact most believe that the Phantom of the Opera is the most played musical on broadway. Sadly due to cuts they are closing its doors to broadway next month. Broadway won’t be the same without Phantom.
    2. Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary celebration at the Royal Albert Hall (stage production starring Sierra Boggess, Ramin Karimloo, and Hadley Fraser)
    3. Hello Dolly! Starring Barbara Streisand, Walter Matthau, and Michael Crawford directed by Gene Kelly (Michael Crawford later played the Phantom in Phantom of the opera when it first opened in Broadway in 1984 I believe.)
    4. Oklahoma! Starring Gorgon McRae and Shirley Jones (by Rodgers and Hammerstein)
    5. The Sound of Music of course (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) the last musical they wrote before they died
    6. The King and I (Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner, and Rita Moreno from West Side Story)
    7. My Fair Lady (Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison)
You will love these musicals as much as my mom and I do!
Take care and God Bless from my mom and I in Southern California USA 🇺🇸 Keep up the amazing work! 🙏🙏❤️

Oscar Hammerstein II died in 1960, five years before the film version of *The Sound of Music* was made. Richard Rodgers lived on for nearly two decades, and wrote many more musicals, though none attained the popularity of his work with Hammerstein. Hammerstein, incidentally, was a next-door neighbor and mentor to the young Stephen Sondheim.

She was one of the great actresses of both stage and screen; and she also had a long running tv seriesm where she played a sweet mystery writer who solved murders in her real life: "Murder, She Wrote".
Here she is singing "Send in the Clowns", by Stephen Sondheim, composer and ltricist also for "Sweeney Todd" - Sondheim is the gentleman listening to her: ruclips.net/video/tmAmwfaWyPg/видео.html

OMG a reactor did the stage version!
I’m glad the mainstream movie helped bring more people into the show but there really is no comparison.
I know Depp likes to explore roles without watching past performances as to not guide his acting choices - but I think if he had watched even 5 min of a musical theater actor in the role he would have realized he didn’t have the voice to be Todd.
He and HBCarter end up looking like heroin addicts with breathy empty auto tuned voices and pancake makeup for no reason.
The whole mood is less claustrophobic and more like a weird goth kids movie which ends up making the rape and cannibalism somehow more cringy.
      And the jokes.
They somehow mess up all the jokes in order to fit more cgi camera swoops.
