I'm surprised you didn't recognize Emma Thompson, since she was Professor Trelawney in the Harry Potter films. Which reminds me, there was a production of Sweeney Todd starring Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge) as Mrs. Lovett. It looks like a very interesting production. Here is one of the songs ("A Little Priest"). ruclips.net/video/ryF2rt0hQiM/видео.html

Don't forget Emma Thompson played Nanny McPhee.

Yesss, this is one of my favorite performances of Sweeney Todd and a pleasant surprise in the subscription box! I've been in awe of this opening since I first watched it. This song and all of its smaller reprises were cut from the movie since they're essentially narration, which wouldn't translate over to film quite as well. (A handful of other songs were cut as well, and some of the movie versions cut down on verses or extra parts of the remaining songs.) The full concert is up on RUclips and it looks like someone's already linked it - I really can't recommend it enough. There are some really cool staging choices and Emma Thompson is an incredible Mrs. Lovett.

Yea they cut the opening number because it didn't jive with the tone they were going for. Also here's a link to the full version. ruclips.net/video/9Z-nIwAuh9g/видео.html

Yees! This concert is amazing. Honestly, with this one and Patti's I'm just too spoiled when it comes to Sweeney.
There were quite a few cuts as far as the movie went. And the main role is traditionally sung by a bass-baritone, so Johnny Depp as the protagonist was kind of a polarizing choice.

The movie unfortunately (although understandably) cut all the big group numbers, there's plenty in the show though and they're all chillingly amazing

I don’t know if you see comments on old videos but I’ve loved ST since the late 80s and grew up with the OG cast recording and the 1982 filmed stage version WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WATCH!
I was excited when a movie was finally announced but was worried about Hollywood “actors who sing” stepping into those roles when the show is made for powerful voices. ESPECIALLY DEPP AND CARTER. I’ve seen a million versions of this show but their interpretations are baffling.
It ended up being unwatchable for me for a lot of reasons - even though I tried. Depp’s soft spoken, auto tuned, one dimensional Sweeney was too much.
I am happy the movie introduces younger people to a thing I love though and I applaud you for exploring what the show actually is.
Please watch the 1982 George Hearn Angela Lansbury version - even if just on your own not on screen.
    ❤️

It's been three years so I don't know if you will read this. I am 60 years old...saw my first Broadway show in NYC when I was 14 years old. I watched Angela Lansbury and George Hearn perform and the show was recorded on stage and you can buy the DVD. To even hint that Depp did anything but totally ruin Sweeney Todd with the movie is nauseating. I have seen Broadway shows massacred and Depp was the worst of all...slightly ahead of John Legend as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. Do yourself a favor and watch the true Sweeney Todd Broadway show...it will change your opinion of every other performance or an attempt at a performance.
