Fascinating and sensitive remix. I love it. This was a very special time for Simple Minds ( 1978 to 1982) and a very special time to be involved with them. Their progression was amazing and they were so prolific too. The definitive lineup...

Totally agree on the definitive lineup (and that’s not to denigrate other configurations). Their development from their debut to New Gold Dream in such a short span of time remains a remarkable achievement.
The greatest British band of all time for what they did in that period. Untouchable. This music had a profound effect on me as a teenager when I first discovered this treasure trove of music in 1988

That song - and that line in particular - does seem like an uncanny premonition. A case of pre-cog, perhaps.
In summer 1980 hundreds of thousands of people in Poland (central Europe) rebelled against the communist government. The Solidarity movement was created. Big strikes. A year later, the communists introduced martial law during which many Poles died.
Travelling around Europe at that time these lyrics were just a document of what was happening in the now - trust me I was there
