WWE is a publicly traded company and they cater to their shareholders. The Networks give them huge amounts of money because it's cheaper than any tv show. WWE has even rented their library to NBC Universal, that's why the WWE network is on peacock. The Saudis also give them a lot of money for a couple of shows per year. That all goes well in Wall Street and the corporate world In general, but they demand results. The old NXT failed to provide such results, they lost clearly the moment they had competition and they have never been able to attract the same viewers of Raw and SmackDown. Nick Khan comes from that world and they don't give a fuck about wrestling but they care about money and short term benefits. Triple H and his people dropped the ball, so now they're paying for it. The shareholders demand results, maximizing profits and minimizing costs.
@@alyberop1 I don't know, the ratings had gone down really bad between 2012 and 2015 and they got more money, they were even worse in 2019 and they got A LOT MORE MONEY. What makes anybody think they would listen to Regal? The people who would listen to him are the ones who are accomplished enough to not need any help (Punk, Danielson). I would exclude Bischoff from the list of people we should feel bad for. His firing had nothing to do with the current ridiculous roster culling waves in WWE. He showed up for work completely unprepared for his job, hadn't kept up with the business for years, didn't know anybody on the then-current roster, disappeared without a trace in the middle of work days, and spent most of his time hanging around in catering by himself instead of doing anything productive. Multiple people who were there at the time have confirmed this. They didn't even know what he was doing or why he was there at all. I've fact checked the number as much as possible and it's true since the start of 2020 to right now WWE has released 144 wrestlers and its only going to get worse WWE has run some of the best stars out of the company and 144 is a number of releases that's almost unbelievable that shouldn't happen during a global pandemic
144 people is also way more people than a wrestling roster needs, and that's not even counting the people still there. Not defending WWE's scummy labor practices here but there's just not enough TV time for all these people. AEW should seriously consider trimming some fat too. This is just a theory, but with all these releases (recent past and present) collectively they have the ability to either recreate a wrestling company or start their own. WWE is open to working with other companies and is rumored to be prepping for a sale. ROH is on a "hiatus". What if these releases, headed by Triple H are on their way to take over ROH, and with WWE sold and the McMahon's riding off into the sunset, the wrestling world is recreated with the different companies competing and the fans being the beneficiaries? Aew was new and hunter knew that. Maybe it was because of contract, loyalty to Vince or pride. But HHH slept on the opportunity and Cody Rhodes capitalized; along with TK. Vince is switching up because he can't compete in that department, so he's going back to the basics. We'll see if it works in this day and age. One things for sure. I ain't watching pg TV WWE.
I honestly think that as long as WWE pulls in the revenue from their tv deals with Fox/USA as well as any merchandise sales they pull in, Vince and Nick Khan don't really care if AEW kicks their ass. The problem with that thinking though is that eventually the shoe will drop and networks will lose interest in having WWE on their network and Vince will be left with nothing to work with in the future.
It seems to me that the biggest upshot here is that WWE is systematically destroying faith in their contracts at a time when top talent has a more attractive alternative option than they have in 20+ years.
I would truly love to see the return of Steven Regal to TNT / TBS. One more match would also be great if Steven wants to to it - maybe against Brian Danielson? Also, If Tony is just one of us, like he says he is, there is still time to correct the biggest mistake in Wrestling history - William Regal should have been world champion. Hell if Vince Mcmahon could be WWE champion, I am sure there would be a believable and legitimate way for William Regal to hold the title.
Regal diddled himself on that a few times with his demons. But I do agree, Regal would be a fantastic champion. He's getting up in age for wrestling, but he is still in great shape. And his history is credible too.
While that story sounds cute, he would have to debut as an underdog face. Cause the story is an impossible task as you state. But if he wins, he is the champ and the gm. That's a heel position. It just sounds like messy booking
I agree with almost everything Jim said but lets be honest most of the AEW roster wouldn't listen a word Regal, Joe or either Armstrong had to say. How do we know this to be true? Well they didn't give a fuck what JR thought, so even though AEW should employ a handful of guys it won't improve the inring action.
Regal would be a great backstage presence for AEW it would be the most underrated signing they ever did but whatever he does do I hope the best even Joe as a coach would be great for them
Out of everybody, I think I feel the most empathy for Samoa Joe. I used to regularly pick up the wrestling magazines for decades, and I remember when he first came onto the scene and all of them were talking about how amazing he was. All of his work in the Indies, his presence oh, he was the complete package. And now, roughly 20 years after I first heard his name, his career is largely depressing. He got to work all the big promotions, but they've all treated him poorly. And now at this point, when it's not that he couldn't necessarily wrestle but it's certainly more difficult because of age and limited options, and here he is working for WWE in the back end, to get fired without anybody telling his boss, who hires him back, so that he could be fired again. He seems like a really nice guy and I think if I had access to a time machine I would go back to that guy I first read about and tell him to find a different career choice, something that wouldn't crap all over him
It's almost like Vince isn't in control of his own company. And this new Kahn guy thinks that he's gonna be the next person in charge, when everyone knows that it's gonna be Stephanie (who is Triple H's wife). So Nick Kahn is digging his own grave.
steph has no power on the board of WWE it’s public trade company and they vote on all decisions so either Vince is being outvoted or Nick is getting most votes by the board for his decisions even if Vince doesn’t agree bc the chairman doesn’t hold all the power.
@@jefvinson1987 Agreed. I want Dark and Elevation to be extensions of Dynamite and Rampage with actual storylines mixed in with the developmental talent.
Difficult to judge Tony Khan on "not firing anyone" when we're just 'coming out' of a worldwide pandemic, if we can even say it's over. I don't think he deserves to get critisized for not firing people. Letting people's contracts expire is the right and humane thing to do given the current worldwide situation. Props to him.
I've been saying this for some years now, if you are a aspiring wrestlers do not take a try out with WWE and politely decline if a scout approachs you. This company is swollen with employees/talent. I'm all for cutting the fat but they tend to let ppl go that should have lifetime jobs. Vince must have no since of loyalty anymore.
WWE doesn’t want wrestlers from indies or schools or Japan or Mexico or Canada or Mars. They are moving to the homegrown superstar style only. A set of twins out of a beer commercial- let’s make them women’s champ! A Samoan with a legacy? Yup!
How did they not put Samoa Joe into Paul Herman’s spot with the Samoan stable. He can talk for Roman, win for the twins at ringside and still bang if he had to. Joe vs Brock was awesome and When they did the angle wondering which way Heyman would go, Joe should have whipped Paul’s ass!
Lol I remember thinking that when seeing Nick's name for the first time time back in May or June. I thought to myself "wait Kahn? Vince you've been infiltrated!🤣) Being a mailman though I know how popular the last name Kahn is though.
To think WWE firing Samoa Joe and William Regal would NOT be the top story of the year is insane but here we are 7 months later : Sasha Bank, Naomi and Toni Storm walked out of WWE, Vince McMahon quits WWE because he paid over 12 millions in NDA for indecent behavior, Stephanie McMahon left WWE then came back and is now CO-CEO, Triple H also left but he's back too. There is 5 more months for 2022. WWE is a sinking ship. oh and btw Samoa Joe and William Regal are now AEW. just a insane year for wrestling news.
WWE was always a safer alternative to many of the territory companies. I would love to see WWE go away and someone make the old videos of territories available
How does Triple H & Regal not just start their own promotion at this point? There are plenty of released talent between WWE & ROH to start 2-3 new promotions.
Exactly Khan CANNOT hire everyone, he just can't. This give opportunity for other promotions to step up. That's what WWE is doing, they know AEW can't do what they did in hiring so many folks. They got their legends in the back. Someone else needs to step up.
Fact is, Triple H sealed NXT's fate when he couldn't, at least, slow down AEW. Also catering too handcore fans i.e. fans that will never be happy also doomed him

Can't wait to hear what Jim has to say about Mickie James coming back to the WWE for the Women's Royal Rumble as the Impact Women's champion
They released so much talent they probably will have a bunch of guest spots just to fill out the mens and women’s Royal Rumble matches. Having Mickie James come back is really something after they sent her belongings to her in a trash bag. Hope she doesn’t forget any of her belongings after the show.

All they give a shit about is posting a profit. This Nick Khan douchebag evidently has been given carte blanche to do what is needed to ensure that. WWE literally gave AEW some of the best bookers and trainers
This was bound to happen if you remember when they announced the formation of AEW Vince went on a hiring spree and offered jobs to pretty much anyone from the Indies who had even the smallest bit of print in the magazines. It was inevitable.
I prefed HHH version
He also offered other deals to activate talent... remember when Randy Orton teased goin aew by standing next to the word "elite"
Will they get the same deal, when this one runs out? Or will plummeting ratings hurt them. This is so sad to see, as s long time fan 😩
@@alyberop1 I don't know, the ratings had gone down really bad between 2012 and 2015 and they got more money, they were even worse in 2019 and they got A LOT MORE MONEY. Raw is still the most watched show on USA network and Miz & Mrs. has also been a big success, everything the WWE has done with the E! Network has been a hit and from what I've heard, WWE has brought a lot of subscribers to peacock. NBC Universal is probably very happy with them.
At this point, I am surprised WWE hasn't tried to ban the letter "H" or have it removed from the alphabet completely.
