Nice video Dawn... another way of older sites is by place names anything ending in by such a Grimsby, are of Dane origin.. more in the east of UK with the influx but some in other such as Helsby and West Kirby in Cheshire ad Westby in Lancashire
I really like your hat.❤Beaches and low water can reveal plateaus of of great areas and right of way to detect. Unfortunately some people think they own the entire lake, so ultimately it is law enforcement who have to correct these greedy people.
Hi Dawn. This was really informative. The maps on the Scottish site are brilliant. You're definitely pointing me in the right direction! Thanks, Chris.
Dawn that was really helpful regarding the beach I live on the Sussex coast. Plus the maps are brilliant , I found my 1960s house is on an old path, in the past I found an old mineral bottle early 1900s and clay pipe .
Hi dawn. Thank you so much for that info on the beach, it all makes sense now brilliant. I'll keep you posted on what I find around the costs of Hartlepool etc. Kind regards Keith ledger
I love what your doing for the people who metal detect, with your tips and the knowledge you share and answering the Q&As is so helpful, a lot of detectorist dont know the rules and regulations of metal detecting or the permissions that's needed in order for you to detect in certain areas! So thank you for sharing what you know! I live in the states and my question for you is who do you call to find out about rules and regulations, or if we need permissions to detect on public property? Til next time take care and stay safe and dig,dig,dig...
I would imagine although not as strict with parks etc as over here, but you would have to ask permission on private properties and land. Im sure there would be a state rules and regulations over there, but i wouldnt know where to find the info?
Cheers Dawn , just watching this episode on maps .....awesome very helpful indeed, this has just opened up a whole new level of information and learning for me and loads of other detetorists thanks v much for taking the time!
Thanks Dawn. I have been looking at this map website for sometime. You’ve helped a little but more by pointing out some things such as old buildings being black in colour and the dotted lines. Many thanks Alan
This is really interesting stuff to share with the viewers Dawn. I have spent hours and hours using these maps. A Garmin hand held GPS unit comes in handy with the OSGB grid references too. 👍
Thanks Dawn, I think you can see the lidar on nls maps too 👍ask to see the farmer's old map with field names. We found our first button - there was gilt on the back so we did the gold dance 😊🤣
I enjoy your channel I watch you from Wyoming USA. Thank you for your suggestions and also for the silver dances LOL My husband and I get a kick out of you. I also Love your display case you have and someday I will be out doing metal detecting as soon as I get well again.
Great info just what as a complete newbie I was looking for I just got my first MD a legend But I managed to get permission before I bought one the lady who owns the land 5th generation has told me noone else has ever detected on there but she couldn't tell me anything about the land only that there is an outline of an old chapel in one of the fields then she gave me the news that I can go anywhere on her 305 acres so I need as much information as I can get and your vlog was the first to tell me where to look online So thank you Kind regards Tony
Dawn In a further episode you might want to mention that a beach being Crown Estates is not the end of the story. My nearest beaches are the Wash and the North Norfolf coast. Nearly all of it is Crown Estates but metal detecting is prohibited on nearly all of them by local council bye-laws and can lead to fines and confiscation of your equipment. Thanks for everything.
Good job, Dawn. Informative. We don't have quite so many "limitations"/permissions in "the States", and (most) waterways, etc. are public access (some are restricted, for safety & other reasons (wildlife sanctuaries, for example). Can't wait for the vid on your trip to Dallas metro area. That'll be fun watching. As usual, all the best, be safe & have fun. (from Florida)...
I live in the US, but even so you gave me a few things to look for. So far I have found a Lidar map and I'm going to look for some overlay maps as well. Beaches are a bit trickier around here and vary from state to state and even cities or counties, so you have to do research locally for that.
Thanks matey, this is really useful stuff. I have a field near me where i find loads of clay pipes in a very small area. One of the maps you suggested shows a small building in the field. Obviously where all the farm workers went for a chat and a smoke!
Not to overshadow your great work, but I'll put together a quick guide on how to produce even better LiDAR images and post to the group for you and everyone to take advantage of 😊
@@DiggerDawn yes d just interested as i think I may have found something interesting just need an older timeline on the old maps. Awesome job by the way d miss your weekly outings

You would have to check with your local council as you cannot detect on scheduled monuments its actually a crime so you do need to check if youre unsure
