"..it does not erase the person inside". That is all I need to hear to give me hope for people with schizophrenia. So insightful and that takes courage to be honest with yourself then others.
I have schizophrenia also. It is a terrible illness. I having never been off my medication but i hate the sedation. I am high funtioning but still live at home and on a pension. I am in my fourties. Thanks for this video. I was moved !!

I read the book a few years ago when I had a friend with schizophrenia living with me, otherwise she'd have been homeless. Pam and Carolyn are saviors sent from birth with a message, that is in their story for the world.
Pam is brilliant and one of the most endearing, authentic and wise persons I've met in my life. I enjoyed this video, although, I do keep up with Pam's current blog, "Wagblog" and I know some of her attitudes toward what constitutes, "treatment," has evolved. She is a true gem!
Hi Michelle, I don't think many on here are even aware of the atrocities done to people in mental institutions. Nor are they aware that a person can have a traumatic reaction to these atrocities. Pam has bravely spoken out after many years. No human being should be locked up, nor subject to force. Period.
Wow, you encourage me. You encourage me and my sisters. We are traveling and breathing a very similar path. I recognize the land marks and danger. Thanks. Outcomes vary for each of us. Where do you see your outcome? I see my outcome healed of all injury in eternity. As faulty bodies are healed and human hurts are cured, family will be united without the confusion of this present world. It is my best way of forgiving and being forgiven. Your sisterhood is beyond common love, intelligence, time.

When I was in the hospital the nurses called me crazy. We slept on hard mats in beds that looked like coffins. It was horrible.

A brave true story.
Thank God my side effects don't bother me. Some side effects goes away in a few weeks. If you're experiencing a side effect you can't tolerate ask your doctor to change the med. Don't stop taking the meds until you see your doctor. I have a similar video on my channel.
Please people, if you have a loved one with schizophrenia, take it seriously at all times. your love one may deny that it’s as bad as it is or deny it all together. our son had been experiencing this in some degree for years without letting his family know. when he finally told us, he made it sound like it wasn’t that bad, and he could deal with it on his own. we were clueless about schizophrenia. We researched it a little bit but needed far 28:35 more information then we found. we saw him as being defiant, angry, dismissive, and even lazy. We just didn’t get it. as we were confused and reactive, he stopped talking about his symptoms. He told us that he was suddenly OK. he isolated himself and pushed everyone away, including his closest friends. he told us that we nagged, and he needed his independence and privacy. we mistakenly thought he just needed some time to mature and learn how to cope with life. A month ago, he finally reached out and asked for help. Miraculously, we got an appointment with a psychiatrist the next day. He was placed on medication but lost his battle one week later. we are laden with grief, despair, and profound remorse. families need justice much education and therapy regarding schizophrenia as does the patient.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. My family and I understand your feelings of remorse and confusion very well. We just didn’t understand it either. Not enough resources, not enough education on these diseases.. My brother lost his battle on 5/31/2022, he was only 26. Sending you and your family lots of love during this time 💖
Thank you for your reply and sharing your story with me. Our son was a young adult. He barely had a chance to live his life. The grief comes in waves, But we have Jesus on our side, and we know he will get us through this. I will pray for you and your family and others Who have to deal with this horrifying disease. I will forever miss him.
I would like to know what new medication she is on. It must have been something that she has taken in the last year since a year before she was still ill. In fact, it is too early to know whether the medication will help in the long term if she has only been better one year. I don't mean to be discouraging. I just need the information.

Medication, medication, medication is that all there is out there in the west? Is that the most important element to helping people with mental health challenges? I feel so disgusted. I personally know Pam, have lived in her house for 5 days and she was in a crisis and locked up once again in a so called 'retreat centre' - I never feared her - only loved her; and I noticed a stark difference from the way she reacted to me and from her reaction to the 'treatment' team. I can go on and on - your system hurts more than it can ever heal
The US is very backward and they really don't care! Its just a pill pushing society!
I live there. You are right. This country is having major issues right now. This is not the same country I grew up in.
Until I heard about NAMI, I was intrigued. Do you also get financial support from Big Pharma as does NAMI? The Medical Model seems important, more so for Carolyn, but where's the science. I am so saddened by this turn!

It was a great talk and video but the well sister’s voice, being a little high pitched and with the sound of it cracking the whole time was annoying for me to listen to. But other then that it was a very nice talk and it’s so nice to see the love the sister share for each other.
