Finding Hailey Dunn

  • In 2010, 13 year old Hailey Dunn vanished in the small town of Colorado City, Texas. She was supposedly staying with a friend, or at least that's what the last person to see her, her mother's boyfriend, said. Over time, more and more would come out about this guy, none of it good, but the search continued. 10 years later things, maybe, are starting to fall into place.

It's the drugs. The drugs become more important and a lot of couples are almost co-dependant on each other in their addiction. Not an excuse, nothing can excuse that kind of behaviour. But without the drugs, the mother's story would be very different.

Women putting random men before their children is the lowest it can get, imo. In my area, most cases of child abuse (that kind of abuse) are committed by stepfathers and new boyfriends. It's sickening, pathetic to no end.

I've worked in law enforcement for my entire adult life. Over 30 years now. From my first day on the street I took every single report of a missing person seriously. Doesn't matter if everything points to a runaway. Someone who runs away does so for a reason and needs help. Regardless of the age a person walking away from every thing they know is unusual and frightening. I cannot understand waiting 3 days then taking things seriously. It's too late. You wasted the most valuable hours. As I've worked my way up the ranks I made certain those I worked with understood this. I spent years working in juvi aid/sex crimes and now work in federal LE. If someone you care about goes missing do not accept the lets wait nonsense. It's not a law and you work your way up the chain of command until you get the attention you need. If you cannot get anyone to pay attention you tell them you are going to the media. If it's a run away situation that is even more reason to act fast. That person is in danger. I hope all reading this have a happy, safe and healthy new year!

Well I can promise you it isn't just a coincidence that denial is a stage of grief. Especially in a circumstance like this where you have addictions too. You don't just go in to denial of the truth you go in to denial that the only person you have left is the person who is the cause of the grief. Now I would never say one thing excuses the other. But It's hard for me to judge people for not acting rationally in the most irrational of situations. Plus drugs literally keep you from being able to think about things properly. This country seriously needs to making treating drug addiction a top priority. 6 years sober.

I could never imagine being so selfish that I would sacrifice my children for any man, and any man that would allow a mother to do such a thing doesn't truly love you. What a terrible story... Rest in peace, Hailey. May your soul be in eternal happiness, safe in heaven with the Father.

When you occupy an exclusive space in infrastructure that human lives depend on, you do owe people something. When you assume that role, you take on responsibility. You don't have to cater to every whim, but you have to be able to guarantee a basic level of service. It's not like selling cheeseburgers. People can go eat somewhere else or go to a grocery store and buy food if you aren't able to produce cheeseburgers that day. Water and power companies occupy an exclusive market space. Once an area has power lines and pipes built and serviced by one company, there is no market incentive for another company to offer a parallel alternative competing service. If I don't like the company I buy power and water from, I can't shop around for better service the way I can choose a different gas station or restaurant... And when they are unable to provide service in the dead of winter, my only option is to start burning trash and furniture to stay warm enough to keep being alive. This is why we shouldn't elect these particular kinds of libertarian/conservatives to public office. Not saying conservatism is bad, but there's a certain kind of social darwinist thought in some parts that actually inhibits the ability to think effectively. If you are for small government, you should then acknowledge that whatever little government there is should fill essential roles that are not covered by the free market. Elected representatives should not be anything like this mayor. He's like an anti-vax surgeon general or something. Him occupying that role is self defeating.

My opinion is the mother Billie is just stunned. Sounds a lot like she was desperate for a man, ignored glaring waving red flags, put her desires before her children + brings a questionable man into their home + effectively putting her children in harms way. Sad yet unbelievably commonplace.

    • @FLOSSYTREADWELL
      @FLOSSYTREADWELL 4 месяца назад

Yes it is commonplace. These women are invariably on single parent benefits & are magnets for peodofile parasites who want to live rent free with access to children while the mother is out struggling to bring in some underpaid income to boost inadequate benefits. Here in UK they just don't check if single parents are illegally housing these individuals living scott free like parasites. They used to check up on them but gave notice that they would be coming... Of course by the time the appointment came all evidence was hidden. I spoke to one of the visiting officers and he said most can't be bothered to hide evidence so continually lie about being unavailable for home visits. So they stopped. A woman living opposite me, single parent, moved in with one child and didn't hide the fact her partner lived with her and had a roofing business. Her one child became 5 while she still claimed single parent benefits. None ever went to school only to steal the pupils belongings from their cloakroom. I caught the mother stuffing rucksacks down the sewer grate which was already overflowing. The kids would be sent to Tesco to shoplift. It's sickening how this is so commonplace in traveling community here. Some are decent but most are claiming benefits while working cash in hand. CCTV & mobile phone data is helping but benefit authorities are not allowed to look into their spending. With benefit claims all done online now it's just too easy to cheat & these single parents are often so desperate for a partner they'll take first offer, too vain to consider they're being used & their children are at risk.

It is unbelievable. I try not to get so mad at men, considering how eternally predictably this situation arises. The men are supposed to regard their stepchildren-- or their girlfriends' children as children. At least that must be what the girlfriend/mother also seems to expect. But then it seems being around these pretty little girls makes these men insane. Sometimes the mothers are so besotted they forget to protect their daughters-- only wanting their boyfriend to have what he wants.

I'm a police dispatcher and I want to mention two things. 1. Reporting, in terms of missing people, has come a long way since 2010. 2. The most important bit, is that the parent or guardian must file a missing report with us and give us permission to enter them as missing. It is possible that her parents, or her mother, chose not to do that initially and either reconsidered days later, or the police were able to do so on her behalf given the length of time she had been gone. Police abilities differ state to state, so I don't know exactly, but I know with children, the parent must agree to a missing report.

as a local to the broader area, that was a plenty weird part of the case. law enforcement and the media here alike are always very eager to nail these types of cases hard and splash their faces and names communitywide in a seeming effort to pull any other victims forward. as in, I started a game of 'count the sex offenders in the front page headlines' every time I go to the two major local news pages... usually like five of 'em with halfish being child related. doesn't make the place feel safer to live, makes me glad to not have children, but definitely leaves me questioning if they were waiting till they had a bigger stack of evidence to get him on since they don't seem hesitant in any other cases of it. the amount of time it took to actually get him with said bigger amount of evidence still makes it feel like they should've just gone forward with what they did have at the time though to be honest.

That isn't how it works at all. You can't charge everybody as an accessory, you have to have an actual suspect and evidence as to who it belongs to. Otherwise there is no way you're getting a conviction in any US state, and if by some miracle you did, it would be overturned very quickly by a higher court for lack of evidence and lack of a suspect. Its not what you know its what you can prove. Even a public defender would have had a field day getting the charges dismissed if they tried to go that route
As far as 'someone will roll' it wouldn't matter if they did. Again, no actual suspect and you can't rely on pressuring anybody to admit to anything. They'll just claim they were coerced later. and that isn't even getting into the fact that without evidence its your word against the one you're rolling on, and without evidence to support it such a statement is useless and unlikely to even be admissible as evidence

I know these people, and I believe that 1. His work was probably the reason why Shawn snapped. I believe he was bullied at work. They immediately got a gag order on all his co workers and anyone who worked there the minute after the event was reported. 2. They assumed she was a runaway because she was a bit rebellious for good reason. She didn’t like having young Shawn as a “stepfather.” She and her Mom bitterly fought and argued constantly. Hailey was vocal about her opinions to her Mother, and openly showed no respect (none deserved of course) to either her Mom or her lover. Billie would have been relieved to have Hailey living elsewhere. But living, nonetheless. I don’t believe Billie was an accomplice to Hailey’s murder.

I think the melding of "rural," "country," "backwoods," etc. in people's minds have muddied this a bit. I (used to) feel safe in (certain parts) of (some) big tourist cities at night, 2000s/2010s NYC from Times Square to Rockefeller Plaza, roughly, being a good example. I've felt safe in the middle of the night on the streets of a sleepy coastal Italian town they'd consider "rural." I don't feel safe in backwoods Appalachia -- there's a different sort of law and a different sort of justice in some of those places. I do feel safe in "the country," which I'd call a decent-sized population that sprang up around natural resources and the railroad, where the plots are big, but you can still shout to your nearest neighbor, and properties that aren't kept up are cause for neighborly concern. Where boys have gunboxes attached to their truck beds so they can go straight from the deer stand to homeroom, but they also have football practice after school.
You're absolutely right that some of rural America is dangerous and frightening. To me, those places are usually ones where the houses are more scattered, where the main job opportunities in the town are gone, the schools are usually a _long_ bus ride from the actual community, and as the area has fallen into decline, people started keeping to themselves _too_ much. There's no hub of community that would usually stem from nearby schools, churches stop hosting events to keep teenagers busy, people look the other way at a trailer with an overgrown lot and an odd smell when you drive past, and it _does_ become a hellscape.

Unfortunately, this isn't always true and particularly so when you introduce drugs and violent men to the equation.
