I recommend a lesson an experienced teacher told me. Get a piece of lined paper and use it to 'sew' on. Don't put any thread in your machine, just use the lined paper as the fabric and sew a straight stitch following the lines. Do the same with any shape you want to draw - blank paper draw curves or circles. Practice. It works.

Yeah, I definitely did not put enough notches in the blue pair of pants! Also, good to know you want to hear a bit more from me and the motivations behind them. Context is important. Thank you for the feedback, it helps me grow.
I have a pattern very similar to yours and wanted a walk through before I got started. Great video especially the zipper(I’m not good with them). My pattern has a step not included in your video to iron pant legs before any sewing and stretching them in certain directions and then steaming them, then start the pockets. Do you have any videos on that? I want my pants to look the best I can but not sure about this step.
I do not have any videos on stretching and steaming fabrics. That is certainly an interesting technique though to essentially mould & shape fabric. I haven't done too much of it but may do a video eventually when I feel more confident in my technique.
Another joy to watch video! Very inspiring how the construction flows and the quality of the make 💯 I was wondering what you were using for interfacing. Maybe something from Vlieseline?
I used what I can best describe as run-of-the-mill interfacing from my local shop :). It's a light to medium weight adhesive interfacing. Thanks for watching.
Yes, the pattern I drafted in the video is the same one I used to make the pants in this video (of course with a few minor tweaks to make them high-waisted.)
This is such a well put together video, from the shot setup to even the motion design. I think it's amazing how you captured the entire process. It just shows how much love you have for tailoring. My only question is (and I know it is something outside of the realm of the video), how did you go about creating your original guides and patterns? What is a resource you used or tips you would give to someone wanting to create their own guides for pieces? Also are there any resources/books that you read about men's tailoring that helped you hash out the steps needed to create the correct fit for clothes, or is it something you have discovered more with trial and error? Either way, fantastic work. Keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words! It's really been a process of trial and error. I started by downloading a pants template off of freesewing.org and sewed it. Then I tweaked it until I got it to fit me well. I have also in the past bought pants from the thrift store that I though fit well and took them apart so I could copy the pattern. I hope that helps.
Look I won't get into nobody's business, but the flipflops with this shirt and pants made me laugh a little 😭 idk why but I feel like some sleepers would fit better
@@CorneliusQuiring Question. Did you add zigzag stitching at the very end of the front pleats? I couldn't totally tell. I'd figure yes since it would be a stress point, but I thought I'd ask. Bonus question: Where did you source the fabric? Locally or is it somewhere you might be able to link for us? Keep on, keepin' on, Corn. ✌
You are correct. I did add zig-zag stitches on the end of the pleats for strength. And yes, I did buy my fabrics locally. Being able to feel the fabric is an important part of the buy experience for me.
They are looking very nice! Do you maybe have a video on drafting the pattern for them? it would be nice to know how to make them... But it does look like in the video you use some what of a basic pattern and then adjust it, am I correct in assuming that?
Yes, I have a basic block pattern that I use as the foundation for all my projects. I do not unfortunately have a video on drafting the pattern of these, but I've had several requests so I'll probably make one at some point. I'll let you know when I do.
@@CorneliusQuiring that sound great! I did get a book yesterday on men’s patterns so will read about it there as well but a video is always welcome! :) and thank you for making them!

Mr. Corn (may I call you Corn?) You have done it again! You had my hopes high from your Instagram and you have delivered ten fold. This was a pleasure to consume. Your stitches were absolutely pristine and that is just the beginning of my praise. I have so many questions, I don’t know where to begin. I hope this is a first of many for you! Seriously, killer work!!! 👾🔥👾 Edit: I have all this to say and I’m only seven minutes into the video!
Oh my. I feel very flattered. Thank you for the kind words. I am glad to hear you are enjoying it and ask away. I will try my best to answer all the questions as best I can. Thank you for watching.
You did a great job! So I attempted to make pants last year but the sizing of the legs turned out too slim. How do you ensure that the pattern size is correct before cutting the material?
Well congrats on giving it a go. A good rule of thumb would be following: 1. Measure the circumference of your thighs. 2. Add about 3 - 4 inches for room so they aren't skin tight. 3. Now add another 1.5 inches for seam allowance. 4. Finally, divide by 2 and you have a good width for the 2 pieces of each leg. As well, it's always easier to size down than up, so don't be afraid of making the pattern pieces bigger than you think you need them. I hope that makes sense & helps.
hi cornelius! I was wondering, what pattern do you use as the base? I’m making my boyfriend a pair of pants for the first time and I’m very lost 😅 love the video!
I have created my own pattern based on random RUclips videos. Good news though: my next, next video is how going to be a pattern drafting tutorial. Bad news: it's gonna take about a month to make.
Well I am happy to hear I inspired. Unfortunately I drafted this pattern myself so there is no "real" pattern, but I recently made a pants pattern drafting video that may be of interest.
Just discovered your videos. I'm so impressed. I've been watching as I sew for the last 2 days savoring each one. 😊 I do have 2 questions. First, where did you learn to sew? (Maybe I just haven't gotten to that video yet. ) Secondly, what is the name of the curved needle that you use to conceal your serged ends?
Well thank you for watching! I am self-taught off of RUclips and a whole lot of practise :) As for the needle, that's called a large-eyed blunt needle. hope that helps.
Hi Cornelius, love the videos! Any chance you could do a video on starting supplies / equipment and advice for someone looking at getting started in creating clothing like this? Cheers !
Well I just released a behind the scenes video this morning. I also have a video called "how I learned to sew" that might be of help. But a video about all my tools is a good idea!
Something really basic. Ideally used and cheap. Preferably a machine made of steel/iron. Less is more. I think this video of mine on sewing machines might help: ruclips.net/video/DJn0sU3fiN0/видео.html
Honestly, I'm not sure. I am guessing here, but I think it has more to do with the quality of the fusing than it does with the technique. A quick Google search seems to indicate "preshrinking" the interfacing. That's a lead that might be worth pursuing.
I use just a basic mechanical sewing machine from the 80s without any special features or gadgets. As for the thread, I use the regular basic stuff you find on all the racks in your local fabric shop. Nothing fancy. Hope that helps.
@@CorneliusQuiring that's great, thank you! Would you recommend the book you have on pattern drafting? Does it help you with sewing the garment as well? Thank you 😊
Yeah, I really like it. I use it mostly as a visual reference to know what pattern pieces should look like. I don't learn well by reading so I don't refer to the instructions much. But maybe that might is just your thing. Either way a great resource.

Yes, the pattern I drafted in the video is the same one I used to make the pants in this video (of course with a few minor tweaks to make them high-waisted.)
I would like to see an easy pair of white linen pants either pockets
Seems you caught me in the comfort wear of sewing in my own home :) Thank for watching.
Andddd subscribed, this is great content; very nice production quality, it’s better than legacy media by far
You are kind, thank you!
How have I never seen your channel before? This is exactly what I'm wanting to make. Fantastic detail. Subscribed.
Well welcome abroad :). Glad you found me and hopefully yours turn out well. Do share if you end up making them.
Brilliant - you are so skilled and talented!
My pleasure and good luck! Tag me if you end up posting a photo of your make.
@@CorneliusQuiring will... might take a while as I plan to sew them by hand. :)
still a bit conflicted on both high rise pants and pleats, they seem to work on taller guys of athletic build, but this pair looks great on you.
I appreciate the kind words and yes, not all clothes look good on everyone :)
Just found your channel! Am loving these videos!! Thanks for sharing - I'm so inspired ☺️☺️
Oh wonderful. Well thanks for watching and the kind words.
Amazing video. Those look great on you!!! 🎉
🤠🙏🏻
Mezmerizing to watch. The pants are beautiful. Love the color.
Thank you. 🙏🏻
Great pair of pants!
Glad you think so.
That is so cool! I want to learn how to sew these pants in 30 days, but probably not possible. I've only ever tapered jeans and shirts in the past. BUT I'M WILLING TO TRY!
Any tips?
I like the enthusiasm. I am sure you can learn the basics in less then 30 days! I recently did a full tutorial series on both drafting a pair of pants and then sewing them. That might be of interest to you?! ruclips.net/p/PLtDVn_Yb2SVunNpcCO_g8n-uJUS_ZhsgA
@@CorneliusQuiring very much so, thank you for the follow up!
@@CorneliusQuiring any specific fabric you would recommend for a guy who is 78 inches tall?
I would recommend a cotton twill. I found it enjoyable earlier on in my sewing days.
nice, i've always wanted to own pants like that
As an owner, I can say they're great to own :)
Mr. Corn (may I call you Corn?)
You have done it again!
👾🔥👾
Edit: I have all this to say and I’m only seven minutes into the video!
Oh my. I feel very flattered. Thank you for the kind words. I am glad to hear you are enjoying it and ask away. I will try my best to answer all the questions as best I can.
Thank you for watching.
Stellar work my dude!!
Thank you, you're kind.
these pants turned out amazing! the video is great too, relaxing and informative haha! well done!!
Oh wonderful. Well I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
Bartacking is the best thing in this video
We all have different things that speak to us most!
@@CorneliusQuiring can you please make these pants for me in 34 waist
I believe in you to be able to make them for yourself. ☺
@@CorneliusQuiring do you think so???
Indeed!
Its so satishfying n inspirating.. Thanks
Happy to hear it :)
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
Nice video. I need to know how long this takes you to make? I want to compare making my own cloths as both a function skill and recreation one!
It takes me about 6-8hrs to make a pair if I sit down and focus without filming.
Inspirational. Well done.
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for making these wonderful and informative videos! You are awesome!
.. and thank you for watching. I am glad you enjoy what I'm doing.
Great fit ! Well done ....
Thank you, thank you.
You did a great job! So I attempted to make pants last year but the sizing of the legs turned out too slim. How do you ensure that the pattern size is correct before cutting the material?
Well congrats on giving it a go. A good rule of thumb would be following:
@@CorneliusQuiring thank you!
hi cornelius!
This inspired me! thank u so much! also, where can I find the patterns for printing?
Well I am happy to hear I inspired. Unfortunately I drafted this pattern myself so there is no "real" pattern, but I recently made a pants pattern drafting video that may be of interest.
@@CorneliusQuiring Thank you! I'll look for it :)
I am self-taught off of RUclips and a whole lot of practise :)
As for the needle, that's called a large-eyed blunt needle. hope that helps.
@@CorneliusQuiring Thank you!
O my god this looks amazing I wish I was so good as you
I am glad to hear you like them. With a bit of practice, you could make them too. 😊
@@CorneliusQuiring Yea i need to practice a lot, i still dont know how to draw patterns its complicated for me :(
I am still confused by patterns sometimes. But I like the challenge.
Great video
Thanks.
Love your vid! What kind of machine would you recommend for a beginner to get to be able to craft something like this?
Something really basic. Ideally used and cheap. Preferably a machine made of steel/iron. Less is more.
I think this video of mine on sewing machines might help: ruclips.net/video/DJn0sU3fiN0/видео.html
Wow! this is simply amazing.
Well thank you.
Fits great, nice color. Where do you buy your fabric? Is it on line or local?
Thanks. It was local, yes.
Nice work mate, at the rate people are going Clothe shops will be out of business cause people will end up taking up sewing to make their own LOL!!
Wouldn't that be a wonderful world. Maybe we would have less clothing waste then :)
What is your secret to not having the fusable interfacing bubble up after some time?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I am guessing here, but I think it has more to do with the quality of the fusing than it does with the technique. A quick Google search seems to indicate "preshrinking" the interfacing. That's a lead that might be worth pursuing.
@@CorneliusQuiring Wow you answered! Keep it up, Corn. I'm a fan!!!
Hi Cornelius, what type of machine thread and thickness do you use? Thanks 😊
@@CorneliusQuiring Thank you. I’ll have to look into it!
Do you have a book or a step by step Guide
I don't have any guides or book on how to sew a pair of pants unfortunately. I've learned through patching together various RUclips tutorials.
Soo nice! Thanks!
Can You teach us How to make na mens clothes patterns for beginners? To be able to make pants like that ? 😅❤️ Please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I definitely plan on doing that. It will probably happen a little later this year.
@@CorneliusQuiring omg great ❤️🙏🏻😄😊 but Please in centimeters not in inches 😅 because I don't know how to relate to them 🙈🙈🙈
How about I do it in both?! So everyone gets it. 😏
