- Talk about a roller coaster of emotion. Today began with a successful induction of my down ewe after discovering she had pregnancy toxemia. It took the predicted 50 hours, but mama did great!
We got her on her feet throughout the day, but after a few hours realized she still had another lamb in her!!
and then the work began...

I just wanted to say thank you Sandi. As someone who raises meat goats, it is so nice to have someone out there showing what really happens behind the scenes. There are so many videos that show truly awful things happening to livestock that people assume that is what farming is when it isn't. It also isn't all Sunshine and rainbows either and you are so kind to share the toll that takes on a person as well. Just a great representation of what it is like to get up everyday just try. What kind of meat goats? We just had a Boer nanny kid tonight! The buckling is twice the size of his sister, but they are adorable. Santa came through for our farm.
Well put. Farming is a 24/7 job. Just because you're having an off day doesn't mean the farm and animals go away. Live stock still needs to be fed, chores need to be done. Rain or shine, freezing cold or scorching heat. This is the life we chose, and gladly take the good with the bad. Thank goodness for the most part things are good. Thank you Sandy for sharing ALL of it. The long hours, the sacrifices made by your entire family to allow us, your youtube family to be a part of it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May your passion and love for what you do continue to bring you joy many years into the future.
@@cmdub97 We primarily have boer. However, we also have a few kiko as well. My commercial herd is made up of 3/4 boer 1/4 Alpine. The babies are then boer enough that one one can tell and the moms milk really heavy and have clean udders. It is what I have found to work the best for us.

There are so many adorable moments in your videos that it's often hard to pick out the best one. (Popcorn lambs are ALWAYS a highlight!) But Lucy checking on the lamb in the NICU, talking to her, and giving her some love was just SO sweet! I hope that she pulls through, and that all of you have a wonderful Christmas together. I'm so relieved to hear that Jess is feeling better and is well on her way to recovery.
This is the medicine I need. Home from the hospital after our son was born, it's complicated but we weren't able to bring him home. Thank you for helping me not be a complete mess.

Sandy, I wanted to tell you that watching and listening to your sheep helped me to prepare for tonight's Christmas Eve Children's Message at our church service. I told a story about the shepherds watching their flocks by night and the birth of a very special "perfect" lamb. I was able to mimic the sound of the ewes in labor as well as the sweet sound of the baby lambs. I had the rapt attention of the children as well as the ADULTS! It’s SO BEAUTIFUL to see how mama walks up to you and loves on her baby while bottle feeding. You can see she trusts you completely. Now that those placentas are off the uterus she should be feeling better. It’s interesting that pregtox is so similar to toxemia (PIH) in women. Best treatment is to get the mama delivered.

This is wonderful to see!! I love these videos!! I just thought of something again. I was thinking of my Mom. She grew up in rural south western Virginia. Her birthday was Dec 23,1934. She would always say, “You can do it in three shakes of a Lambs Tail.” And everytime I see those tails shake I think Mom sure had faith in me getting something done fast!! Your great, Keep on keeping on!! Have a fantastic Christmas!!

We raise rabbits and goats. At the end of the day it's will to live and genetic issues no matter how hard we try the ones that are destined to be gone... are gone. We try our best but after you do it for a long time, you just know when it's time. Losing young anything is painful. but knowing you did what you could, helps. Farmers are priceless.
