  • I took a good friend and his son for a quick Father's Day breakfast to one of my favorite airports; Cape Fear Regional Airport on Oak Island on the North Carolina coast. The folks at the airport are friendly and quite helpful. Go there at the right time and the general manager will present you with an Airforce One golf ball. Can't say enough about the friendly joking staff who seem to enjoy providing good service to all. It's the way life should be, n'est-ce pas?
This flight you'll hear me pickup my IFR clearance in the air on the way back to Raleigh Int'l airport and you'll see some fancy finger work on the GPS Navigation and some kool shots as the plane banks into the clouds.
After a beautiful over the water instrument approach, the landing at Cape Fear was fantastic; landing on the mains first then settle the nose down. But the afternoon approach back to Raleigh was hampered by heat of the day thermals (which is why I tend to fly very early mornings) that make for a rocky decent with some tricky cross winds. But that's why we train and train and train.
Anyway, this was also a great opportunity to run the three GoPro10s with a different setting configuration. I always had trouble with the darn things overheating. Then I realized that they will run cooler by turning off the GPS and video stabilization features. Also, I adjusted some other settings like EV exposure offsets and color temp items to help make the video colors pop more. Sadly, the GoPro10s can't do HDR videos so I have to make due as I refuse to pay $300 EACH for three GoPro12s. Ya hear that GoPro? Sigh.....
Anyway despite the hazy skies, the results (with a lot of help from Adobe Premiere) have improved with nice blue skies contrasted with wispy clouds and sharper focus on the instruments. I need to get the colors better (too much green in this video I think but needed more light to resolve that issue). All of this is a big challenge with varying light conditions while trying to record items of interest both inside and outside the cabin at the same time. I still need to make more adjustments but the quality is improving.
Enjoy and subscribe to see more.

Just subscribe to your channel. I’m interested in hearing about your aviation journey. I got my private pilot certificate at age 62. I’m 64 now and preparing for instrument rating. SR20/22 is my dream plane. Blue skies
