      Yea at first I thought he forgot to put his bong away before filming. Haha
      This neon tetra series is good Mark I sub'd and i let it play all it's commericals and thumbs up'd them because you're doing good work here.
      People like you make me wish i was a millionaire. i'd ship you a state of the art underwater microcamera with ultrazoom movement control mechanisms mounted over the tank so you could deliver the kind of footage you want to see yourself and deliver to us. But you did FANTASTIC with the equipment at your disposal, hell this video is older so I'll look at newer content.
      The spooky algorithm recomended you most likely because a couple days ago i googled "what do neon tretras eat?" Haha, I got my kid some, and I love 'em, but they didn't go to the top and peck it like i thought, they wait for it to descend and play birdie with it so i need a better food.
      Well done!

    What an enthralling video. As a kid I too had tetras, I did accidentally breed a few, I got up to about 30 and came home one day and a friend caught a 4 inch sooty grunter/jungle perch and thought he would do me a favour and throw them into my tank. I got home to no tetras left. Anyway, I will get some again....PS my tetras lived tropical and sometimes I would come home and the water was up over 34/5 c, the neons went black. I would grab 2l of cold water out of the fridge and pour it down one side, the tetras used to 'zing' thru the cold water and recover.. Cheers floot top of australia

    a general rule of thumb for maximum growth of the fish (any fish) is 1cm per 1L, change 20% water every 2nd day (can have another little tank with no fish sitting to the side cycling away if you have bad water conditions where you live)

    A little tip for you: Brine shrimp are best used 12h after hatched, after that, they start to become less nutrition and you might have better results if you enrich them. So, if you have to much, just freeze them in a container to make ice cubes in order to retain some nutrional value. ;)

    A few questions if you have the time...
    1. Do you suggest replacing the peat with every spawn or can you get several spawns from it before it needs to be replaced?
    2. What size aquarium are you using?
    3. Is Cardinal Tetras breeding process the same as the Neon Tetras?
    Just found your channel. New subscriber. Thanks for sharing!

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 лет назад +2

      Hi. I replace it every time as you lose the buffering capability of the peat. And I use a 5 gallon aquarium.

    Found your channel over the weekend and was blown away! I am setting up my neon breeding tank and cultures, hope you can answer a question about the brine shrimp. If I continue to feed the fry walter worms, is a brine shrimp setup necessary? Reason I ask is you mention in one of your neon vids that adults can also eat the walter worms. If brine shrimp are a key part of successful fry rearing, no problem. Just trying to keep it simple. Thanks for all the hard work you be done to make and edit these great video series!

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 лет назад

      You don't need brine shrimp but they make a nice change for them. The fry like to chase and catch food.

    • @3KidsinAustin

      @@MARKSAQUATICS Thanks Mark! Looks like a fairly easy setup to get up and running, just need to pick up eggs and an air pump. I can still remember my shock of finding out 30 some years ago with my first salt water tank that the "Sea Monkeys" I had sucked so much money into as a kid were readily available - though without the fancy castle container! Talk about great marketing targeted at children!

I am setting up fror an attempt at breeding in a small tank and my neon 20g tank is 7.4+PH and I was going to try and see what I might do which I am not at all sure just now but then was thinking I could be over feeding? I do not like to lose anything to ignorance so it is so nice to have the experts available....thanks so much

    Hi Mark,
    Quick and to the point, I picked up some organic peat moss and presoaked for a day or so.
    Added peat to a 20g long.
    But the peat in the bottom of the tank is very fluid.
    If you move the water in the slightest bit, it just stirs up the peat and it floats around in the water and eventually settles back down to the bottom.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I see that your peat acts in a completely different way.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 лет назад +1
