OMG Mark! You really are the Sir Attenborough of fish breeding documentary for me. Absolutely brilliant every video you produce, thank you so much. Please think about producing the artemia hatcher for sale, I so want to buy one! ;)
Great video, mate it is good to see someone show the whole process for a change. I love how easy to understand you make things for beginner to expert aquarists alike.
I got some tetras in my sons 10 gallon that I will be upgrading to a 20 gallon long soon, and plan on getting more tetras for him and wanted to try and breed them for him and these videos are a real good step by step guide on how so thank you!
Yea at first I thought he forgot to put his bong away before filming. Haha This neon tetra series is good Mark I sub'd and i let it play all it's commericals and thumbs up'd them because you're doing good work here. People like you make me wish i was a millionaire. i'd ship you a state of the art underwater microcamera with ultrazoom movement control mechanisms mounted over the tank so you could deliver the kind of footage you want to see yourself and deliver to us. But you did FANTASTIC with the equipment at your disposal, hell this video is older so I'll look at newer content. The spooky algorithm recomended you most likely because a couple days ago i googled "what do neon tretras eat?" Haha, I got my kid some, and I love 'em, but they didn't go to the top and peck it like i thought, they wait for it to descend and play birdie with it so i need a better food. Well done! 👏👏👏👏
What an enthralling video. As a kid I too had tetras, I did accidentally breed a few, I got up to about 30 and came home one day and a friend caught a 4 inch sooty grunter/jungle perch and thought he would do me a favour and throw them into my tank. I got home to no tetras left. Anyway, I will get some again....PS my tetras lived tropical and sometimes I would come home and the water was up over 34/5 c, the neons went black. I would grab 2l of cold water out of the fridge and pour it down one side, the tetras used to 'zing' thru the cold water and recover.. Cheers floot top of australia
They've seen the light! Haha. Nice videos Mr.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Saludos and blessings from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Great videos on how to breed neons very interesting I have always wanted too bread them in have bread angels and corries but nothing else will have a go at neons great tips thanks
Mark I enjoy your video thanks for the tip i been seeing over hundreds of eggs in my tank didnt know what to do until i saw this i will keep in touch to see how i do.
a general rule of thumb for maximum growth of the fish (any fish) is 1cm per 1L, change 20% water every 2nd day (can have another little tank with no fish sitting to the side cycling away if you have bad water conditions where you live)
A little tip for you: Brine shrimp are best used 12h after hatched, after that, they start to become less nutrition and you might have better results if you enrich them. So, if you have to much, just freeze them in a container to make ice cubes in order to retain some nutrional value. ;)
Really appreciate your time and efforts thank you so much. Is it possible to substitute brine shrimp with something else as I have no access to it for the moment. Thank you 😁😁
A few questions if you have the time... 1. Do you suggest replacing the peat with every spawn or can you get several spawns from it before it needs to be replaced? 2. What size aquarium are you using? 3. Is Cardinal Tetras breeding process the same as the Neon Tetras? Just found your channel. New subscriber. Thanks for sharing!
Hi. I replace it every time as you lose the buffering capability of the peat. And I use a 5 gallon aquarium. It's the same breeding process for Cardinal Tetras. Thank you for subscribing. 👍😀
MARK'S AQUATICS - Thanks for the reply and information. I bread them back in the early 70s but other than the extremely soft water I could not remember what or how I did it. Thanks again. I will give this a try when I get my fish room expansion completed.
Hi Mark, very well done buddy, that's actually quite a lot of fry, much more than i thought when i watched part 2. Would this process be the same for Cardinal tetras? P.S. I just subscribed :)
michael a another way is to use ro water or rain water and add some oak or Indian almond leaves to soften the water. Remove the adults as soon as they've spawned. 😀👍
Hello, I saw some people use Sera Micron for just born cebra fry, Sera micron is smaller than infusoria, is also good for guppy fry. ¿Do you think this product is also okey for neon fry? Thank you. Good video.
Found your channel over the weekend and was blown away! I am setting up my neon breeding tank and cultures, hope you can answer a question about the brine shrimp. If I continue to feed the fry walter worms, is a brine shrimp setup necessary? Reason I ask is you mention in one of your neon vids that adults can also eat the walter worms. If brine shrimp are a key part of successful fry rearing, no problem. Just trying to keep it simple. Thanks for all the hard work you be done to make and edit these great video series!
@@MARKSAQUATICS Thanks Mark! Looks like a fairly easy setup to get up and running, just need to pick up eggs and an air pump. I can still remember my shock of finding out 30 some years ago with my first salt water tank that the "Sea Monkeys" I had sucked so much money into as a kid were readily available - though without the fancy castle container! Talk about great marketing targeted at children!
Hello, is there no ventilation or filtration used during and after propagation? Does any part of the water change in any way? Thanks for the reply, Martin
Thank you Mark for such a great informative stuff about breeding tetras and other fish. I’m new at this too and want to try it. I have Neons about 12 of them and guppies and a pair of Emerald Tetras right now and also two Corys. My water is about 7 ph and Temp stays about 79. Is that to hot for them? Keep up the good videos. I love them.
Oh My I got excited seeing one of my tetra's belly all fat with eggs. Guess it's not possible for the fry to survive in a community tank?. Probably why I haven't gotten any in 4 years of owning them.
Sir I have a day old n some week old frys I'm feeding them egg yolk solution my doubt is are they big enough to munch on bbs that young ? Some suggests nit to feed bbs baby brine shrimps as they will be bigger for them to eat is that so please guide me ... I see very lil growth n some looks the same even after a week on egg yolk ..
The comment that Neons will literally eat themselves to death..... does that apply to adults as well?? I am setting up fror an attempt at breeding in a small tank and my neon 20g tank is 7.4+PH and I was going to try and see what I might do which I am not at all sure just now but then was thinking I could be over feeding? I do not like to lose anything to ignorance so it is so nice to have the experts available....thanks so much
Hi Mark, Quick and to the point, I picked up some organic peat moss and presoaked for a day or so. Added peat to a 20g long. But the peat in the bottom of the tank is very fluid. If you move the water in the slightest bit, it just stirs up the peat and it floats around in the water and eventually settles back down to the bottom. What am I doing wrong? I see that your peat acts in a completely different way.
Hi Steve mine was the same. Just add the moss and fish and leave it, the fish are tiny and wont stir it up ok.It will get heavier as time goes on ok..👍😀
Would this breeding way for the neons work for other types of tetras aswell? Im looking to stock a 600l aquarium with various species of tetras and was planning on breeding them myself to lower the costs. Great videos
You mentioned using 6% solution of hydrogen peroxide to remove cyanobacteria, does it matter the size of the tank? 100 gallons? How much to dose that size or a 55 gallon? Thanks.
Hey Mark. Awesome job. How old are these and how long does it take for them to be sale size? I've breed Bettas and Peacock Gudgeons and it takes over 6 months for them to reach an inch !
I have a question,I am planning nano planted tank, does potting organic soil kill fish( I wanted to replace my gravel with potting organic soil),I have neon tetras and harly queens
You can use potting soil but make sure its organic with no fertilizers ok. Soak it for a week in a bucket of fresh water before adding it to your tank ok.👍😀
Aaron Marshall It all depends on the fish you keep. If your just putting them back with the parents as soon as they have have their colour and are eating brine shrimp.😀👍
Subbed. Finally someone willing to share information like this with regular people

Those diamond teras are stunning. I had mine in a blackwater tank.
I love your videos.First time I see this procedure, pretty interesting.
That's the fanciest looking brine shrimp hatchery I have ever seen! Very stylish!

Cant wait for part 4!! Once my store bought tetras grow up a bit im going to attempt to breed them:)

I get my breeding tanks from pets at home.

Do you have a video of cleaning the brine shrimp? Wondering how you do that.
They sure are getting some nice color. Keep up the great work.
How are the baby zebra plecos doing?
Love these videos of the neon breeding. I really liked the simple way you break the whole thing down

Good video as usual. with the betta liking warm water and the shrimp cooler what temp do you have.
I'm lucky here all my tanks are at the back of my house so the temp stays the same.👍😀
i go back to petco and buy more, that's how i breed neon tetras

Hey mark have you ever grown any plants emersed ??? Great vid 👍😃
Yes lots of them? 👍😀
love to see vid of fresh water angelfish breeding. i can never seem to get the eggs to hatch or if do do not last long

Would you please post a link for the BB mix you suggested? I have had bad results/prices with the ones that I have tried. Thank you.

How can you tell the difference between Male and female?
How often/ how do you handle water changes with these tiny little guys?
10% once a week.
I drain out the old water with a piece of airline with an air stone on the end to stop fry from being sucked up.

Hi Mark, How do you supply air to your tanks. Centrally or do you use individual air pumps?
On pump to rule them all

When you put the brine shrimp in your fish tank, do they die in the freshwater if the fish don’t eat them?
They will die over time but normally get eaten before they die.
Hi Mark, Do you have to remove the parents once they have spawned? Will the parents eat their young?
Yes remove the parents from the tank as soon as they've spawned.
MARK'S AQUATICS cheers mark
Hi Mark can you tell me where i can get peat balls from
You make them yourself. Just put some organic compost in a pair of pantyhose make a ball and tie a knot in it.😀👍

How do you prevent the neons from having a shock due to the pH difference from your main tank and your breeder tank?
The ph in the main tank is not much different to the breeding tank. Happy New year 😀👍
